Rahul Gandhi was to be given some important work as decided in the Jaipur meet of the party, was chosen Vice President, the President being her mom, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi. Rahul being young and enthusiastic wants to make meaningful changes in the organization, and being supporter of youth he wants to induct young persons in the party, which is not in the interest of old guards who think them to be marginalized. They have obstructed the organizational work bringing it to a halt for the time being. Is it possible for Rahul to reorganize the organization and get success in winning elections? Perhaps it may or may not be. This temptation of power is not only in Congress Party but the entire national and regional parties are the victims of this rowdiness and assertiveness, the attitude which leads them to face defeat in general elections. Old guards in the party are selfish, and need to be restrained, wants coaching to rally around Rahul if they want their party to remain in power.
Since the regional parties gave crutches to centre, they have weakened the governing system and it seems the strong centre is a distant dream. Rahul has now been asked to revamp the set-up, which would be difficult for him to please young and old both and thus his desire of bringing youth in the set up will remain a false belief. Congress party depends on allies for every courageous decision, which hampers Rahuls efforts for supportive boldness. For any decision not favouring allies they stand in revolt, threatening to leave the party which means to bring down the government. On the other hand they expect something tangible to be done by the leader making it difficult for him to do it fully and thoroughly.
The uneasy old guards might be having honey on their lips but becomes restless when anything goes against their wishes, and in such circumstances how can we expect the young leader to come up to the mark when he is still being trained for the higher post of P.M of the country. Some of the loyal stalwarts of the Congress party are behind Rahul and after peeling off his anxiety he might take up to improve the functioning in slow pace. If at any stage if it becomes impossible for him to impose his command, his efforts will not produce a clear cut result, and the party people will not be within their right to blame Rahul, a Gandhi scion, on whom the post of vice president has been trusted and pushed, expecting him to pull the party out of mire. It requires tact, and if luck favours he is sure to reach his goal with the help of his loyal devotees. The members both young and old need to encourage him for the best result of his efforts. Presently Mrs. Gandhi has formed a committee to look after elections and funding, and Rahul is having enough time to think how to manage the reorganizational work. The slowdown process though is encouraging but not that slow to affect the general elections coming in 2014. Party can hope to see his explosive come back if fans stand behind him like a rock.
The name of Prime Ministerial candidate is yet to be announced by the opposition party and if they entrust this job to Narinder Modi who is both popular and a seasoned politician, it will be tough for Congress party to face him when Kejriwal is still slapping corruption charges on the high-ups in congress. It is a shot in the arm of Congress for not taking timely action to discourage corruption and laundering by its Ministers. Modi is quite fit for this post but presently there is also conflict between the allies, who are not in favour of Mr. Modi. Shiv Sena has proposed the name of Mrs. Sushma Swaraj but Rajnath Singh; president of BJP, an old guard of the party is quite capable and hopes to clinch the issue in the favour of a suitable candidate which could be Modi. BJP is also standing on coalition, and the partners usually dictate terms to safeguard their interest. The issue will also take time for the party to appease Bihar Chief Minister, Mr. Natish Kumar, who is also an ally of BJP, and a contender for this post. Modi has qualities to be a consensus builder and would consolidate Muslim votes of Gujarat and other states. Rajnath Singh, with much experience of organizational work will manage to show the secular credentials of the party to attract Muslims and minorities to their side. Some leaders with vested interests are having fear that Modi alone is taking up the challenge of intensifying the party, solving the problems in Andhra and U.P that irks them believing to be dominated after he seizes the post of the Prime Minister.
Rahul also stands a chance if the supporters, both well-wishers and power hungry rallies around him, and must show belligerent nationalism to see their leader holding the reins of the party restructuring.
