Honour Killing, 3 hack 15 year old sister and threw her body in the river; the news appeared in Hindustan Times dated the 17th January, 2012. Such incidents happened earlier also but this time some of us got a severe shock, thinking we could also be the victims of this treachery. About twenty senior citizens who sit in a park discussed this problem, which is thriving both in rural and urban areas. Such incidents bring shame to the parents that rises within them in terror, and they become agitated beyond the breaking point. The parents who bring up their wards lose their familiarity of several years and the boyfriend who meets them for the first time developed his intimacy to such an extent that he became everything in their lives. The erring wards try to fulfill their aspirations without consulting their parents, who are always their well-wishers. Parents ultimately become helpless and unpredictable.
What are the valid reasons for this malady?
Most of the participants put the blame on Bollywood films, TV shows, national papers and magazines that show scantily dressed girls dancing on the stage, shaking their legs, eyes, hips and breasts to which they call it an art. The youngsters and even the oldies enjoy these shows, but this openness ultimately results in rape, kidnapping and honour killing. The discussion turned up among the seniors, but was not defensible without the participation of a single young person who might speak against the age old culture that doesn�t find favour with them. Our country is in the developing stage and we are making progress in all the fields. While steeping in the western culture, it is difficult for us to go back to embrace 50 years old culture of our ancestors. Youngsters have gone much ahead of elders, who are still sticking to their old whimsical ideas and are not ready to change. Internet, though very useful is misused by youngsters by posting nude photographs of girls to nurture vengeance especially against those who don�t find favour with them. Students like pornography and become victims of sex at an early age. Immoral things appeal more at this age rather than the decent ones. The adrenaline in youngsters goes high to make things worse for them and their family members.
The mixing of boys and girls has become common in schools, parks, buses and anywhere they feel easy. They develop intimacy considering the situation with little amount of sanity, a cold purpose of which is lodged in their mind to finalize the plans in their minds, and start treading a dangerous ground. They remain under qualms but the temporary cool they get in the company of each other takes them to point of no return to lead a happy family life. They dodge their parents and within a short period find themselves caught in the throes of love even without thinking their compatibility. The girls feel tingle racing through their body thinking the truth of their boyfriends words might sink through the fog of their fear. They ultimately find them tied to the boys with no hope of escape. The girls struggle to ease the fanatic pace of their heart and the battle inside them makes their stomach clench in dread. This is the flawlessness of a man and a woman truly coupled. The faltering girls lose their moment of control as the boys surge forward and pour them into hers. The news of family honour waft around like scent in the air. The stumbling persons remain under pressure and become reluctant, telling parents in plain words to have their union with those boys. On occasions the boys play false with them and get their statement recorded under duress, stating they have taken that step with their own accord, and thus tries to save themselves from legal tangles. The heart doesn�t grow wiser during young age, and crave for the company of other sex.
After discussing the issue for one hour the members decided to leave their daughters to their fate, if even after persuasion they don�t come round. They become obstinate and their heart doesn�t squeeze which managed to stir the feelings of their parents. The seniors decided not to take the law in their own hands by killing their wards after their pride is wounded; to which another gentleman suggested that the best solution is to commit suicide ourselves and let the erring youngster feel about it during the rest of her life. Committing suicide is again illegal and thus it was their unilateral decision to severe all connections with the erring member. Sharing of passions or releasing of fury within our friends circle is unarguable; it gives us succor and purgative relief. We must deal with our unbridled and inconsistent emotions all by ourselves or by confessing them to our trusted parents or best friends. One wrong step will land us in jail spoiling our whole career. Such forced or incompatible relationships will not last long and there are chances of soreness, disruption and humiliation to all concerned.
All of them were aware that this discussion will end up with our generation and the story will die after some time. The discussion was very lively but the net result of racking their brains was their inability to tackle this problem of saving their honour. It is precise and perfect that when such a bad incident happens with anyone of us we lose our cool, and become desperate as there is no confusion about our imminent defeat to save our honour, which we think once gone is gone forever.
We can perhaps, expect the solution by enacting strict laws and their implementation to bring under control all the conniving persons, who have actually murdered the couple, and those who knew about it and connived with the culprits. The Government must deal with this problem strictly or the occurring of such incidents of enticing girls, their kidnapping, rape and murder would bring shame to the nation.
