Dear Sisters and Brothers

Om Shanti

In a TV talk show hosted by Sister BK Shivani on the 13th of December, it was announced that they would take up cases of blame game among close relations, but my friends case is not perfectly akin to that though it is leaning towards that end, and I request you to discuss it in any of the series of your discourse for the benefit of general masses. I shall be obliged if an e-mail is sent to me when it is taken up.

The sister-in-law of a friend who resides in America with her son and his family wanted to remain in a hotel as she couldn’t get the vacant possession of her flat when the tenant wanted to keep it for another two to three months - his house which was under construction could not be completed. Permission was accorded and thus she could not get the vacant possession of her flat for the time being. Her brother-in-law offered them to stay in his house instead of staying in a hotel, and the lady, her daughter and her son stayed with him but her daughter-in-law left to stay with her mother in Madhya Pradesh on the same evening of their arrival in India. She came back on 30th November and three of them husband, wife and their child left for USA on 2nd of December. All of them were accorded superb reception during the period of their stay in his house. The lady who is his sister-in-law (whose husband died few years back) is still living in his friend’s house and is down with cough, cold and asthma, and is in a bad shape. Some members of his family in his house have caught infection and his wife who is 78 has been suffering badly. About a year back when she stayed with him with his son and his wife she suffered even then with multiple diseases and when she was about to go the hosts wife got admitted in the hospital but the family was lucky that she came back to life within a week or so. His wife once again started showing signs of going to hospital but this time my friend was very strict with her and didn’t let her go to the kitchen for making lunches and dinners for her younger sister, who was the guest of honour in their house. Perhaps, the trouble would not have occurred had the maid didn’t leave them while the guests were there; but still the fear of infection which is most important to get rid of was there for youngsters and the aged people. Both the husband and wife were aged and were not able to take up the burden of serving her in right earnest.

The lady has two brothers, one sister and one sister of her husband living in Delhi - the host heard her talking to somebody that she would go to her brother’s house on 14th or 15th of that month. On 15th the host received his grandson who came from USA for 15 days’ vacation where he is a student in Ohio University. His friends in India were expected to join him and they would be feeling paucity of space in their house. There was also no one else in the house to attend to that sick lady and her sister (wife of my friend) was also in bad shape but later recovered almost 60% by that time.

Once I listened the discourse of sister BK Shivani expressing that one should be greedy to maintain one’s own health without caring the health of others, because if you are not fit to help yourself how can you help others. My friend’s wife didn’t let him talk to her to know her plan so that his people might not suffer due to her sick presence. My friend is still in search of a maid because without some help at this age it is difficult for him to pull on, and for two days he baked the chapattis for his wife and sister-in-law in spite of his suffering with sciatica pain for the last one month. His daughter-in-law gets tired when she comes back in the evening, and he is not in favour of overburdening her. The lady might have felt bad with the indirect talk of the host with her and left his house on 16th of December to remain with the sister of her husband and shifting to her brother’s house later, where she thought she was no welcome at that particular moment.

I would like to have your judicious opinion keeping in view the laws of spirituality whether the thoughts of my friend and his actions in this regard are worthy of respect for his own family or are malicious on his part to let the lady (in utter bad shape) go when she was in utter need of accommodation and wanted the help of the host as his nearest relation.
