We are living in a world with opacity, filled to capacity with dishonesty and confusion. Right from our childhood we are told to speak truth and only truth, which is based on the set of beliefs which our ancestors observed and passed them on to the next generation as our legal inheritance. We are following some of these traditions thinking not to keep ourselves isolated from the group to which we belong. We verbalize our faith not to become a victim of the wrath of God, but don’t follow it rigidly. Lies, frauds, egotism, dishonesty, evasion of taxes, political skullduggery have become the potent truth of our life, and have gone deep into our mind. We listen to parables from bearded pink robed sadhu’s with great interest, but unable to absorb them. A feeling of distrust has permanently occupied our mind, expressing we cannot do without untruth in all the walks of our life.
Truth teaches us to be honest, and this is an obvious fact which is generally believed. Untruth is in our existence which has become a reality. The moment we flout the rules set by a particular system, we become dishonest, but sometimes we feel coercive to deviate from them. We daily face thefts, robberies, snatchings, kidnappings, murders and in spite of some people’s determination to be honest and follow the right path they shake in their faith. Due to corruption it is difficult to concentrate our thoughts on what is acceptable and is likely to trigger for the meaningful action. For that we need some modifications to remove confusion. Our circumstances force us to believe in untruth which lies under the advent of our routine life. We have become defiant to these assaults of dishonesty, and it has now become a part of our behaviour.
There are several avenues to become truthful by observing the set rules in our life, but due to blindly following others and not keeping a distance between our fellow beings we pursue a life of hurry and worry which is dubious. In such circumstances where there is no freedom to be mentally relaxed, it becomes difficult to remain static. Even if we choose a life of decency, we are unable to enjoy it due to some hurdles which are difficult to cross. Some difficulties are felt due to the incorrect procedures intentionally followed by our leaders having interest to set ambiguities firmly in place rather than seriously doing things to better the life of people. Our ministers work on their make believe expertise having priority to fill their coffers, knowing well that nothing goes with the person when he dies.
It is a well known fact that this life is very short and our stay here is not permanent. In spite of all this we prefer to accumulate wealth, concealing it here and there, and ultimately put ourselves in trouble. It is not possible for us to absorb the wisdom, which is very clear, and one can experience from one’s own existence as a human being. Depravity has gone deep into humanity and in spite of the teachings of reformers and their personal experience; we are not ready to change our attitude. The rituals like Dussehra and Diwali that we observe every year in a ceremonial way have some meaning for us to follow, but without acting on the truth contained in them we show helplessness, and have become too old to accept a change for the better.
We don’t bother about truth. Modern society doesn’t prefer to be spiritual and are not ready to follow personalized system of beliefs that teaches us to follow truth. They go after peaks of experiences and heights of ecstasies with too much extravaganza, and ultimately finding them in a disgusting position. Dishonesty, shams, imaginations, and wishes have become a part of our life and we don’t want to resist their temptations. We have become immune to overgenerous life, and it has become impossible for us to be away from their influences.
To learn truth intellectuals are of the opinion that we must have a guru to guide us, and the conditions attached to have a Guru are very hard to follow. Guru’s want us to unlearn which is already in our mind, because the wishes, egos, and several other ideas filled in our mind are obstructions to our learning. They want their disciples to come to them with a blank mind, having trust, and remaining closely connected with the development of events of their teachings. If the trust is shaken and the disciple doesn’t remain in touch with reality, he will not be able to take any benefit from his guru. A question arises whether it is possible for a person to trust anybody even the guru unless they meet and know each other. >/p>
The sages say in emptiness of mind the truth is possible, but with shaken trust it is impossible. They want people to be unintelligent, helpless, who are required to follow them with blind faith. Sometimes the instructions we get mislead and confuse us, and our mind is not receptive to hold them. The experts tell us that the thinking is possible with empty mind, and to know God becomes easy. They don’t want ego or doubt in our mind which are obstructions, and are fit to be discarded. Meaning of truth is to know God, which is omnipresent, but invisible. If we are serious in our efforts to know God, we can become serene with self realization. Truth wants to possess us totally, and is not in favour of listening to different views. Worldly knowledge is possible, but not the religious knowledge which needs a burning desire in a person to know God. The desire should be real, trustworthy, and only then it can act as a driving force to let us achieve our goal.
