Coupe
Just happens to be my 1974 XB Ford Falcon, and is actually able to give me more grief than any woman ever could.

Well thats it, the car i fell in love with all those years ago, young & stupid is the term i would use, knowing absolutely nothing about cars (thinking i did though) I saw this & immediately run to the bank, got a loan & the next day I was the proud owner of a bucket of rusty nuts & bolts (hahaha).
I was actually put on the path of self abuse at a much earlier age, it started when i discovered the
Dukes of Hazard and the General Lee, i know it wasnt the make of car but more the shape & styling that got my attention like all the other Dukes of Hazard fans i dreamt of driving a car of my own just like Bo & Luke, but all young boys must grow up (a little) &
I found the Ford Falcon Coupe, what a machine, that classic Coke bottle shape & all that power, & tell me what other car you can fit 12 inch wheels under the back guards straight from the factory????????
Like i said young and stupid just look right to the engine bay ,i really do not know what was going through my head when i decided to do that but im glad it`s gone now.
I bought the car back in June 1990 (only ten years, seems longer) from a teenager, apparently his parents thought V8`s were dangerous (?) anyway i got it for the bargain price of $3000.
I really didnt know much about cars back then & not really having a lot of money you soon learn to fix things & if you mess it up do it again, in the firt year the 302 threw a conrod, oh what fun that was, snaped right in half the only good that came from it was it didnt lterally go south, so the block was ok, then a few months later a Volvo driver decided he liked my paintwork and proceeded to take some when he swiped me completely down the right hand side, then blames me for it (what a pain) then a few months later guess what, rust not the normal type u can cut out, no this rust appears to have come with the car, the paint on the car had been sprayed
straight over the rust (all over the roof) it only took six months to come out after i bought it.
Thats when i decided on a rebuild, so i started saving and at the end of 1992 into the panel shop it went & there it stayed for the next 13 months i think by the end of it the panel beaters were glad to see it & me go.
         BEFORE & AFTER SHOTS

ABOVE- Engine bay

L & R- Inner guard & a pillar, also note the silocon st the top of the a pillar, somebody must have got wet feet.
L- This hole had a plate riveted over it & was covered with putty.

R- Rust holes & damage
         BEFORE & AFTER

L-Note the putty covering a bad repair at the lower part of the panel.

R- the whole rear pabel was reaplaced with a new section.
Home sweet home, the first day of the next six weeks to put everything back together before the Summernats.
L- Worlds largest jigsaw.

R- The first of what averaged aout to be a engine a year, i believe a car is meant to be driven hard if its built for that purpose, why put a monster motor in if you never use it.

(look at the space in that rear guard)
These four pic`s are from my first year at the Street Machine Summernationals held in Canberra Australia every year in our summer just after Christmas, apparently it is suppose to be the worlds largest car show.
I had only just completed building the car & a few days defore Xmas i was working on the wiring, got distracted by the girlfriend at the time with a fight we were having & i cooked half of the wires in the car, i spent the next two days striping and rewiring half the car. Needless to say she did not come to the nats.
That was the Xmas of 93, even though i had only driven it about 1000km since getting it on the road i did good enough to place overall 6th in the go-whoa finals out of a field of probably 1200 entrants.(left)
BELOW- 1994 Having fun in `Spear a spud` .

Spear a spud- The object of the game is for the passenger to  collect a `spud` from each checkpoint, it`s the drivers job to use skill to park rear or front into the bay close enough so the passenger can get their spud, the winner is one who gets all their spuds in the fastest time.
go-whoa - simply start at one line drive 200metres as fast as possible & stop axactly on a line, sounds simple huh, well it`s not & having a powerful car actually handicaps you, it`s usually the 4 cylinders or rotaries that do well in this event.
LEFT & BELOW- Some of the cars that were in a car club i used to belong to.
ABOVE & LEFT- Club run at the Summernats in 1995 around Canberra
RIGHT & BELOW-Campsite of the club in 1996 at the nats.
RIGHT- 1994 Put it into the guard rail after losing traction on the burnout strip, one year i will never forget, any one of the 20,000 people watching that day would remember that one.
Sorry if the words offend but it was a great  form of stress relief & a major peice of amusement for everybody there.
Like I wrote earlier, a car should be driven hard and even though its not the fastest car i loved to race it at Eastern Creek 1/4 mile, best i did was 2nd  in DYO & i only lost because 3rd gear jumped out (damn toploader) yep every race i have had has been with a 4 speed.
The worst thing i have had happen to me is break an axle when i launched, it is very  hard to get traction with only one wheel on that sort of surface
