Education Review Office's Latest Report
Karapiro District School is a rural school catering for students from Years 0- 6. It is situated 7 km from Cambridge and has traditionally drawn students from the surrounding farming area as well as the local village. The school has maintained its rural identity and has continued to foster close links with its community.
Experienced teachers who take all
satisfactory steps to provide safe and secure learning environments for students
staff the school. Classrooms are interesting and stimulating places that
encourage students to learn independently. Positive relationships between
teachers and students and among students are evident. Student work is valued and
a range of work is displayed throughout the school. Students are well motivated
and high levels of on task behavior characterise classroom practice. Achievement
information in aspects of English and mathematics indicates that students are
learning successfully and are well equipped for future education.
Rural school traditions are valued.
Because the school is small, there is a focus on developing students as
individuals and encouraging every student to reach his or her potential. There
is a family atmosphere and students care for each other. Teachers listen to
their students and provide sound guidance and advice. Parents are actively
encouraged to participate in their children’s learning as is seen in the
assistance that parents provide for students who need to build up their reading
mileage.
The principal is providing sound and positive educational leadership to the staff and board. This has been recognized in his annual appraisal.
