Greetings astronomy's friends
The latest astronomy news report is talking about a new, tenth planet of our solar system. But first, let me say few things about this page. It's very young, only few days since it made. From here you will read every day news about astronomy and we will discuss any topics you want. Finally, I just want to inform you, that my english is not the best (as you may allready realised), but I'll do my best to make this site as much as clear to read I can. Thank you for your visit.
"Tenth planets". History and characteristics
Now back to the latest news. As you may allready have heard, a tenth planet discovered a few days ago. But first, let's see, which space objects are called planets, and also the history of discoveries of "tenth planets", because the latest discovery wasn't the first which mension that we may have more than nine planets in our solar system. read more
Quaoar (showing in the picture), is another one of the big objects, which are in the Kuiper belt zone. It is also considering from many astronomers, as another planet of our solar system.
Extrasolar planet, found between three stars
The new extrasolar planet is about 149 light years from Earth and it's the first which found to be between three stars. Its size is about Jupiter's and the stars have a distance as much as our Sun with Saturn. Astronomers beleive that this discovery will change the models that we have, about how a planet is formed. read more
That's how we would see the sky, if Earth was close to this extrasolar planet. You can see the planet at the left of the image. At the center you can see two of the three stars (the red and the orange) and at the right there is a bright light, which come from the star that is most close to the planet.
Earthlike extrasolar planet found
The smallest extrasolar planet, found about a month ago. It orbits a red dwarf, about one third of our Sun size and allthought called an earthlike planet, it is about 7.5 times larger from Earth and has a distance from its star of about 3.2 million km while Earth is located about 93 million km from Sun. read more
In this artistic image, you can see the extrasolar planet with some of the terrestial planets characteristics, like rocks geological activity and hot surface. The redish colour come from the M dwarf Gliese 876, the star which the planet orbiting.
