Chapter Thirteen <*><*><*><*><*><*>
The Hebrew expression 'in the day the him' usually translated as 'in that day', could also be translated as, 'around that time'. We should regard this expression in this way in the previous chapter and this chapter. It is the time around the day of Yahuweh, which is the day that Yahuweh is coming to restore Israel and the beginning of His kingdom of Shalom.
Shalom means more then peace, it means a state of complete undisturbed happiness and wellbeing.
The events described probably do not occur in the one single day but in a short time span.
Verse 1.
In the day the him there shall be fountain opened for Beyt Daviyd and for the occupants of Yerushalaim for sin and for impurity.
A fountain is a symbol for purification. The house of David and those that dwell in Yerushalaim shall be purified of their sins and impurity. Impurity is the result of sin so both sin and its consequence shall be washed away.
Verse 2.
And it shall be in the day the him declares Yahuweh Tzevaot, I shall cut off the name (of) the Idols from the land and not be thought of again and all the prophets and spirit the unclean I cause to pass from the land.
Many prophets have come up who were not appointed by Yahuweh and gave false prophecies.
Many people have been and are, under the influence of spirits that are unclean, that is not from Yahuweh. However, they claimed that they acted on Yahuweh's behalf.
The Tanakh teaches us that true prophets only are from Israel. False prophets not from Israel have some times tried to influence Israel but Yahuweh made them change their message to His word. From Daniel 9:24 we know that seventy weeks were set out for Israel to seal up prophecy.
The significance of this is that Israel alone is appointed for prophetic responsibility.
The other thing we know is that the seventy weeks have been suspended after 69 weeks, when the Moshiya departed from Earth without completing His total undertaking.
We are still in the in-between time. Therefore anyone after the Moshiya who claims to be a prophet or having spiritual messages is a false Prophet.
When the last week of the seventy weeks start, there will be prophets but as we learn from the book of Revelation, they will be clearly marked and indicated as such, so as not to be confused with the false prophets of the anti-Christ.
When the last week has ended, the day of Zecharyah's prophecy has arrived and prophecy shall be completed (Dan. 9:24).
Verse 3.
Then it shall be if to prophesy man again then shall say to him his father and his mother who born him, not shall you live because false you spoke in the name Yahuweh. Then to pierce him his father and his mother who born him because of the prophesy of him.
Prophesying after Yahuweh has closed off this era is a serious offence because no one would be prophesying in Yahuweh's name. Even the parents are to execute their children if they claim to be prophets because they could not be but false prophets.
In our days we do good to remember that false prophecy includes all teaching that is done in the name of Yahuweh, but which is based on human doctrine, Isaiah 29:13; Matt. 15:8-9.
Verse 4.
Then it shall be in the day the him, to be ashamed the prophets each of his vision in his prophesy and not be clothed with a cloak hairy in order to deceive.
The status symbol of a prophet was a hairy coat.
Verse 5.
Then say not prophet I am. Man to work the land I am because man bought me from my youth.
The ex false prophet will be terrified by Yahuweh's judgement and deny his previous involvement, by claiming to have been a slave from his youth who worked the land.
Verse 6.
Then it said to him, What are the wound the these, between your hands? Then (they) to say, that which I was wounded (at) Beyt of lovers.
False prophets used to mutilate themselves, 1Kings 18:28 but they would find an excuse for that, by claiming to be wounded in a brothel, a house of lovers (prostitutes). Rather then admitting to false prophecy they took the dishonour of being wounded in a brothel brawl.
Verse 7.Sword rouse yourself against my shepherd and against male my relation declares Yahuweh Tzevaot. Strike the shepherd and shall be scattered the flock. Then cause to return my hand, the insignificant ones.
The shepherd and 'male my relation' is Yahuweh as the Moshiya.
After He was killed, the flock was scattered all over the place.
Yahuweh shall cause the ones seen as insignificant by others to be returned.
Yahuweh is saying here Go ahead kill the Moshiya so the flock will be shattered but it does not prevent Me to bring Israel back again. Let well Yahuweh does not give the sword permission to kill but says you can rouse yourself but I will counteract.
Verse 8.
Then it shall be in all the land! declares Yahuweh, Two mouths in her to be cut off to expire and the third be left over in her
The Hebrew clearly says 'mouths-two' which we could say means two parts with a third part left over.
This destruction of two thirds of the people will for sure contribute to the wailing of Zech. 12:12-14.
Verse 9.
"Then I bring to pass the third in fire and do testings as test the silver and do examinations as examine the gold he. He to call in my name then I to respond with him. I to say: "my people" he to say "Yahuweh Elohay (my Elohiem)!""So the part which is left over, will be tested and purified. Two thirds straight away destroyed and the left over third again will be decimated by the purifying process.
Compare Isaiah 1:21-31 and Malachi 3:2-3.
Note also that they say: "Yahuweh Elohay" and not "Adonai Elohay" or "Hashem Elohay" Yahuweh shall restore His name.
According to Ezek.36:22-23 Yahuweh shall one day restore His Holy name.
This is my translation:
"Therefor say to House-Israel thus says Adonai Yahuweh not upon your interest I to do, house Israel but in (for the) case of My name holy, you violated the honor off at (among) nations when you go out there. (23) And I shall sanctify my name the great, slain (profounded) at (among) nations, which you violated the honor of among them and they will know, the nations, that I Yahuweh, declares Adonai Yahuweh, when I will be sanctified among them to their eyes"
To my train of thought, they have violated the honor of His name, by not allowing it to be pronounced anymore, and hereby also causing the nations to use Baal or Lord instead of Yahuweh
Israel will be tested by fire as we learn from Malachi 4:1. Every one who is like chaff shall be burned but he who is not burned is like silver and gold tested by fire and only a third passed these tests.
Only Israel will be tested. The nations will be judged, Joel 3:1-2.
Studying Zecharyah so far has revealed to us snapshots of Yahuweh's plans with Israel, using as it were a magnifying glass to show us some details. These snapshots are leading up to the final revelation of the Day of Yahuweh in the following chapter.
