Yoel

Chapter 3

Yoel chapter 3 is a very small chapter. This might be one of the reasons the church pasted it on to chapter 2. By studying Yoel, we must consider that Yoel does not give a detailed day-by-day oversight of all the end time events. He just highlights some of the aspects of those days. This Chapter starts with the promise of the Spirit. Comparing Prophets like Malachi in Chapter 4 and some of the visions in Revelation about the two prophets, the 144000 and those with the mark of Yahuweh, with Yoel 3:1-2; we might conclude that prior to the coming of Yahuweh some people might be empowered by the Spirit of Yahuweh.
However, this does not apply to all Israel, because they all will know after Yahuweh returns. Jer. 31:33-38.
Also the first verse of Yoel 3 makes it clear that this shall be after these things, which seems to put these first two verses behind the last three verses in time relation. The last three verses of Yoel chapter 3 are actually a part of the happenings described in the previous chapter. We might conclude this by comparing the end time prophecies from the other prophets such as Jeremiah. Jer.31:1-30 is a parallel to Yoel Chapter 2 en to Yoel 3:3-5.
Verse 1-2 (2:28-29) Then it shall be after these things, to be pouring out my spirit on all flesh then to prophesy your sons and your daughters, your elder's dreams be dreaming. Your young men visions to see.
Then also upon your servants and upon your maidservant, in days the they, to be pouring out my spirit.
Now this clearly spells it out that it be after these things. The Hebrew expression 'achar-cen' means afterwards or then. However, the expression used here is, 'acharee-cen', meaning; 'after items previously mentioned.' These things or items are the prophecies given by Yahuweh to Yoel (Yoel 1:1).
We have seen that these prophecies pertain to events yet future for us and therefore still future to the time of the Apostles. We find therefore that if indeed Peter used this prophecy in Acts 2:17-21, he used it out of context. Yahuweh's spirit was certainly not poured out on all flesh. We must also consider that Peter simply might have mentioned that his was an outpouring of the spirit of Yahuweh. Later commentators, translators or copyists may have inserted this reference to Yoel. We find many out of context quotes in de, misleadingly called New Testament, writings that could have been added in later. All flesh in this context does not mean all living beings. The flesh is defined in the context as groups of humans.
Concerning the servants, read Isaiah 14:1-2, which also is related to the end times.
Verse 3-4.(2:30-31) Then I will put on signs in heavens and in earth. Blood and fire and columns smoke.
The sun changing in to darkness and the moon to blood, before coming day Yahuweh the great and the dreadful.
After having shown the to be expected blessing, Yahuweh in His word to Yoel now returns to matters that still has to happen first.
This day is also referred to in Isaiah 13:6-13 and by Yeshua in Matt. 24:29-30 In this quotation we must consider the possibility that Yeshua used the Tanakh expression:' One like unto a son of man.' A further reference is found in Rev. 6:12-17.
Blood represents carnage but fire also can give blood like reflections. The moon rising on the horizon often appears red when seen from an area with high air pollution.
Verse 5 (2:32) Then it shall be, all that call at the name Yahuweh shall escape, because in mount Tziyon and in Yerushalaim shall be escaped remnant, like as said Yahuweh and the survivors who Yahuweh is calling. I have read some impressive philosophies about the Tanakh usage of the expression 'Name Yahuweh' or 'Name of the Lord.' Brilliant minds Jewish and non-Jewish, great human thoughts from academics.

But let us be realistic, did Yahuweh give his word to us to stimulate our minds to philosophy about it, or did He give a plain direct message for all of us to understand?
The creator who said: 'come now and let us reason together, ' Isa.1:18, has given His word plainly for all to understand and not to the select few, who could then use their superior wisdom to explain what Yahuweh is saying. Unfortunately for a lot of people Yahuweh decided to use the Hebrew language and that is why we need interpreters.
Having said all this, let us look at the plain language of this text.

'all that call at the name Yahuweh shall escape' All through history, as well as to day and shall be in the future, people in distress are calling out various names or epitaphs to ask their gods for deliverance. However, the plain message of this text is that, calling on HaShem, Adonai, Lord, Allah, Baal or what ever shall not save you. Only calling your Creator by His rightful name Yahuweh shall escape. We have seen this already in Yoel 2:12-14.

Now if Israel to day would heed this warning given by Yahuweh through Yoel, all the calamities of this warning would not happen and they would be save in Yerushalaim and Israel. However, Yahuweh knows their stupidity and hardness of heart. That is why the purging is necessary and the onslaught of the invading armies, to shock them into the realisation that as a nation they need Yahuweh and that only Yahuweh is able to deliver them.

Although this message is primarily to the nation Israel, there is a message for every individual, which says that calling for your Creator with His name Yahuweh shall deliver you. Furthermore, the translation commonly used 'on the name' is not correct. It only could be: 'in, by, at, during, because of, for, according to or against the name.' Look at the context and decide for yourself what you think would be appropriate. According to Ezek.36:22-23 Yahuweh shall one day restore His Holy name.
This is my translation:

"Therefore say to House-Israel thus says Adonai Yahuweh not upon your interest I to do, house Israel but in (for the) case of My name holy, you violated the honour off at (among) nations when you go out there. (23) And I shall sanctify my name the great, slain (eliminated) at (among) nations, which you violated the honour of among them and they will know, the nations, that I Yahuweh, declares Adonai Yahuweh, when I will be sanctified among them for their eyes" The next chapter deals with the nations.
