Title: Best Friends
Chapter: 9
Reason/Explination: Ami is going through a lot of emotional turmoil after an encounter with Makoto where they almost kissed, but Ami's mother paged her just before they did. This snippet shows Ami's true logical nature to an almost comical degree, portraying Ami's desperate attempts to make herself rationalize the irrational. Not to mention, someone has tipped off to Ami's mother that she and Makoto may be having an intimate relationship! Oh dear.
Moment:
Ami stared at the computer screen. She rationalized the size of the columns in her table, added a layer of thickness to the border around the outside, shaded the top row and leftmost column. She did everything but read what she'd written, everything but think about what it had meant. For some people, thoughts entered and left their heads at such a dizzying pace that it was impossible to keep up. For others, perhaps thoughts never entered in the first place; they simply lived by instincts and emotions. Ami, however, could not comprehend the concept of an 'empty head.' So much to consider, so much to review and analyze, it was only natural that she should use state of the art technology to organize herself. 'This computer is about 15 months past 'state of the art'', she thought in yet another brilliant diversionary tactic.

Eventually, however, nothing remained but to get to it. It had started with simple text, stream of consciousness writing, capturing mostly questions and exclamations. "Why?" "Why today?" "Am I crazy?" "What gives her the right?" "Is she right?"

Cathartic as they might be, such ramblings were not very conducive to systematic analysis, so Ami changed tactics: lists, bulleted and prioritized, summarizing the salient points, the timeline of recent events, identifying key issues and questions.

*Studying at i.c.p
*S.K. arrives, asks about M
*Awareness of disharmony
*U.R. arrives, then leaves
*Visit to Rei, improvement
*Dinner w/friends, improvement
*School, test, normal
*Dinner w/M ... do I?
*Review of feelings...I think so
*School, normal, anxious, might she?
*Dinner w/M ... I do, she does
*Call from Mother...return
*QT Prep
*QT...appointment..Why? Who???????????

With the issues identified, the timeline clarified, and the questions posed, Ami had proceeded along the natural lines of self-analysis: tables and charts, pros and cons, names and speculations. Who knew? Makoto, surely, but that was impossible. Rei? Maybe, but why would she tell? Usagi? Usagi was very perceptive, very nosy truth be told, but she wouldn't either, would she? Minako? There was no way. Who else was there who knew her, who might have guessed?

Ami shook her head and decided to drop that line of inquiry for the moment. Maybe some distance would bring clarity or inspiration. Unfortunately, that left the more difficult issue. True, she had given it a cursory examination the other night, after she'd left Makoto with a soft kiss. Ami now realized that, in her excitement and anticipation, she'd failed to adequately consider all sides of the issue at hand. The very fact that she'd neglected to consider her mother's reaction amply demonstrated the depth of that failure. Failure was not a concept with which Ami was either familiar or comfortable.

So, with a deep breath, she scrolled up to the list of factors for consideration. The more salient ones stood out for her perusal: external reactions (family, friends, society), impact on existing relationships (mom, dad, other senshi), potential risks (breakup, ostracization, unrequited feelings, condemnation), impact on future plans (normal life, social standing, children, professional/career), moral/ethical issues. The list went on and on. Some items were easily disposed of, others were far more sticky.

Title: Electric Winter
Reason/Explination: Makoto has been beating up on herself lately, running and biking and staying at the gym until litterally exausted. I like this moment because it really gets across the idea that Makoto is suffering internally, plus I like the way the author uses ice and lightning to represent the charecters.
Moment:
"Ooookay. So I guess the future doctor is very concerned for my health", Makoto said.

"Well yes of course I am, but not just as a future doctor Makoto", a cool breeze called from the kitchen. Again Ami emerged from the kitchen with a plate of eggs and potatoes. She sat down across from her friend and began to eat small little bites. "Eat", she said looking over at her friend. "It worries me that you feel you have to push yourself so hard. What are you fighting?"

The question felt like a storm. It hit the thunder goddess like one of her own electrically filled attacks. She took a weary bite of her food and searched for an answer. A million things flew through her mind, 'I'm fighting you. I'm fighting myself; I'm fighting desire because it's being so cruel. I'm fighting destiny because I want some choices to be my own. I'm fighting...I'm fighting because...because...' If she was trembling she didn't realize it Makoto looked over at her friend, electricity sparking in her eyes. "I fight so much it's hard to say exactly what it is I'm fighting. I think the question becomes 'why do i fight' rather quicklydon't you? I fight because it's all I've ever done. All I've ever had to do. I...I...I don't know how to stop. I know only how to bury it...but the funny thing then becomes that I start fighting within myself."

Icy blue eyes sighed sadly and Ami got up from her seat and stepped over towards her best friend. "I want you to look at me"; Ami said voice awash in the warmth of winter. She put her cool hand on Makoto's face drawing her emerald green eyes upwards. "I want you to take a deep breath."

Makoto did as she was told.

"Now let it out", Ami whispered the command softly.

Again the green-eyed senshi did as she was told. Her heartbeat like a drum, sounding the call of want and begging the girl to just give in. Makoto fought it. She fought it hard.

"I don't want you to hold back anymore Mako. I want you to let go"; Ami whispered dropping any and all formalities. The blue haired girl bent down a bit both hands on Makoto's warm face and kissed her. She pulled away. "I don't want you to fight this anymore", Ami whispered and then locked Makoto in another kiss. A kiss deeper and more meaningful than the one before.

She could have died. Right there and then in the soft winter kiss her friend had so gracefully bestowed upon her. Makoto stood up, still in the binds of a winter's kiss, and wrapped her arms gently around Ami's waist. And the two just stood like that for what seemed an eternity. Finally Ami slid out of the kiss and Makoto looked down at her eyes swimming in electric tears.

"Oh what are you doing to me", Makoto whispered she fell back into the chair she had been sitting in and began to sob.

Ami walked behind the chair and wrapped her arms around Makoto's neck. She kissed her cheek and whispered, "Stopping you from fighting."

Title: The Cruelty and Fairness of Fate
Chapter: 10
Reason/Explination: This is one of the best damn fanfics out there, and anyone who's read it will agree. It has a really involved plot, but I'll give an overview as best as I can. When everyone but Makoto went away on summer vacation, Makoto was feeling lonely and met this asshole manipulative guy who got her pregnant. He's pretty much gone from the picture at this point, but Ami, who is in love with Makoto and has been for a very long time, is feeling pretty crappy after Makoto wound up in the hospital for over-exertion. I really, really love this part of the fanfic because it shows Ami in one of her most vulnerable positions, and finally lets the reader in on exactly how much she loves Makoto, and that the depth of her feelings extends beyond Makoto and to the baby, "Little Bug." Aw, just read it. It's touching. Really.
Moment:
Usagis father came to pick her up not long after Ami returned. It was then that Ami found an opening to tell them she would be leaving soon as well.

After hearing this, Rei volunteered them for clean-up, mostly as an excuse to get Ami alone and ask if she was all right. Thinking it would make the other girl feel better about having to leave, Rei offered to stay the night in her place.

Grandpa wont have a problem with it, said Rei as she stood on tiptoe to return the box of crackers to the top shelf. So dont look so worried, Ami. Shell be okay without you for one night.

The dishes Ami had been holding clattered hard against the bottom of the sink. Rei turned around to see Ami gripping the edge of the sink so hard her knuckles were turning white. Her head was bowed and Rei had to strain to hear her when she spoke.

But I dont want her to be okay without me, said Ami softly. I want to be the one who takes care of her. I know its selfish, and I should just be glad shes all right and not begrudge her the few real friends she has. I cant help it, though. I want her to be mine, and only mine.

Rei came up behind Ami and laid a hand on her shoulder. Giving it a light squeeze, she said gently, Its okay to want that, Ami. It doesnt mean youre being selfish. But if you think it does, then I give you permission to be selfish tonight.

Amis grip loosened just a bit, and Rei saw a single tear run down her cheek. Why did she do it, Rei? asked Ami, her voice quiet and sad. She wasnt alone. We were there. *I* was there. So why did she do it?

Rei could only shrug, not having an answer and not thinking it would matter even if she did.

Releasing her grip on the sink, Ami looked from the miko and moved several steps away. She turned back to Rei, her arms wrapped tightly around herself. I hate her for it sometimes, said Ami, a slight quiver to her words. I hate her for feeling like shes alone when weve been here, when Ive been here, for so long. I hate her for going to someone who didnt care for her at all and giving herself to him when Ive done nothing but care for her without asking for anything in return. I hate that I have to see him everyday. I hate him for not loving her, her for not loving me or wanting me the way I do her, and myself for not being able to stop.

Amis words petered off into a hitched sob. Rei went over to her and put her arms around her as all the tears Ami had kept bottled up began to fall. At a loss for real words, Rei made soft noises at the smaller girl like those one would make to a frightened child.

I love her so much, said Ami after several seconds. Sometimes when I look at her I forget how to breathe because of how she makes me feel.

I know, Ami, said Rei gently as she lightly stroked a hand over Amis hair.

Ami shook her head and pulled away from Reis embrace. Swiping at her tears with the back of her hand, she said, No, you dont, because it isnt just her anymore. I want Bug, too. I can almost imagine what it will feel like to hold him or what hell look like when hes sitting on the kitchen floor banging on her pots and pans with a wooden spoon. And I can imagine what its going to feel like the day someone takes them away from me. Amis eyes closed tightly as she wrapped her arms back around herself. It hurts, Rei. It hurts, she cried quietly.

There wasnt anything Rei could say to this. None of the false assurances that first sprang to her mind would help and would likely cause more damage if spoken. So she simply stood and allowed Ami to lean on her and let out as much of the pain as she could.

Title: Living With Minako
Reason/Explination: Mako-chan is scary when she's angry. ^^; What's going on is that, obviously, Minako is living Makoto. She got kicked out of her own house by her parents when they found out about her and Makoto's relationship. As we see here, it isn't all fun and games. One of the things I really like about this is Makoto's terms of endearment. It's funny to imagine this scene, and I think that if it were part of the actual Sailor Moon series, it would fit right into the humor aspect of the series. If that makes any sence. Meh.
Moment:
The blonde bounced in as usual and greeted her tall lover with a hug and a kiss. "Wow, I see you've been busy today. The place looks great! You should sit down and rest." She grabbed the dirty cloth from Makoto's hand and threw it in the sink before leading her to the couch. They both sat down and Minako flipped on the TV.

"Koko baby. I think we need to have a little talk ok angel?" Makoto had a tight smile on her face. The sweetness of her voice carried an undertone of animosity.

"Sure thing," Minako smiled again hoping her cuteness would remove the underlying hostility from Makoto's tone. She knew the brunette was acting overly nice on purpose. She liked to play with people's mind like that, barely detectable sarcasm that made you wonder if you imagined it, or you were going to get the worst bitch-out ever.

"I decided something today love of my life. I decided that I'm going to go on strike. This house is now spotless. I want it kept that way. And I want it kept that way by you. I refuse to do anymore house work. You might enjoy living like a pig but I will not tolerate it any longer, nor will I pick up after you any longer. I am not your maid, I am your girlfriend, and I would like to be treated as such. So I'm going on strike until you clean up your act, so to speak."

Minako smiled at her stormy warrior. "Ok."

Makoto continued as if she hadn't heard. "I'm serious about this. I'm not doing a single chore. It's your responsibility."

Minako nodded, "I understand."

"I'm not going to do the dishes, I'm not going to pick up your clothes."

Minako kept nodding her head letting Mako rant. She knew when the taller girl was in this state she wouldn't stop until she felt the point was beaten through a six foot thick concrete wall. It became redundant at times but it was best to let her run her course. All Mina needed to do was nod and smile and soon they could move on to other more pleasant things. She had really good intentions about keeping up her end of the work. And she really did feel bad about making Makoto feel like a maid. She would try her best.

Once Makoto was convinced Mina would pull her own weight she cooked dinner. Minako rinsed the dishes after they were finished. When they went to bed she put her clothes in the laundry basket. When they woke up for school the next morning she even made the bed.

This lasted for a little more than two weeks before the love goddess began falling back into her old routine. "Why do I have to pick up my clothes if I'm just going to wear them again tomorrow. When I put them on in the morning they'll be off the floor."

"Because they don't belong on the floor. For one they'll get wrinkled and you'll just have to iron them, for two Artemis will shed on them , and for three I wake up earlier than you and I always trip over them in the morning."

"Well it gives me a good excuse to put the iron to work. Artemis has white fur so it doesn't show up on my fuku shirt and I make sure its on top of my skirt. And you should try walking with your eyes open in the morning."

Makoto wasn't going to argue with her and her twisted logic. She had a love hate relationship with it. Most of the time it was adorable how the blonde processed information and came to conclusions. Other times it was infuriating, like now. "I came off of strike too early. You were doing so good before. Now you're idea of cleaning is stuffing the dirty stuff where you can't see it. Have you looked under our bed lately? Have you tired to find shoes in the closet? It's impossible with the amount of dirty clothes and junk you've thrown in there to save time."

"I'll clean it later."

"You say that every time Mina. How much later is later?"

"When I'm in the mood."

Title: Last Wish
Reason/Explination: Professor Tomoe has been hospitalized and he's on his deathbed. He makes a final wish to see his little Hotaru again, and Setsuna is just the girl to grant that wish. I chose to put this on here because it's a great description of Hotaru and her life, plus a little Chibi-Usa/Hotaru on the side. This part of this fanfic is actually what turned me on to Chibi-Usa/Hotaru.
Moment:
"My little girl...she's stronger than I ever could have dreamed she could be," he said. For as long as he could remember, Hotaru had always been a weak and sickly child.

"She is an inspiration to us all," said the woman. "Hers is a heart that is capable of so much pain, but so much love as well."

Tomoe was crying again, but this time they were tears of joy.

"Would you like to see where all her strength comes from?" said the woman, obscured by the mist.

Tomoe nodded. He knew she couldn't see him, but she seemed to get his response anyway.

The mists shifted again, and Tomoe saw young Hotaru again. He saw her sitting in a park, her hat blown away by the wind. A little pink-haired girl picked it up and handed it back to her. And that was when things began to change.

He saw Hotaru and the other girl inside his house, talking to him. He was possessed at the time, but he vaguely remembered meeting the other girl.

He saw Hotaru and the pink-haired girl growing closer and closer. The other girl mourned the most when Hotaru was turned into a baby, but there was still a spark of hope...and it grew into a fire of passion. He saw Hotaru as she was today, holding the pink-haired girl close in a loving embrace.

Time passed, and they kissed.

Time passed, and they stood together in dresses of the purest white, surrounded by celebrating people.

Time passed, and they were together at the heart of the city of crystal.

"My little girl...is in love?"

"Very much...and it is a love that will last for a thousand years..."

Tomoe felt as if a weight had been lifted from his heart, and as he pressed his head back against his bed, the mist of time disappeared.

The green-haired woman stood there, watching him, a serene expression on her face. "This is what you wanted to know?"

"Yes," he said. "My Hotaru...she's happy."

"Yes," said the woman. "She's happy."

"Then I can die happy too," Tomoe said.

The woman did not try to stop him as he reached out and pulled the IV cord from his wrist. His breathing became slower and slower, until his chest did not rise or fall anymore. The instruments that had been reading his heartbeat began to buzz.

By the time the doctors and nurses arrived, he was already gone, and there was no one else in his room.

Title: The Cruelty and Fairness of Fate
Chapter: 5
Reason/Explination: I'm sorry! I can't help it! I know this is my second one from this fic, but this part was just too good to pass up. I love this scene for the perfect way that Haruka is portrayed as a "father" figure, for her treatment of Hotaru and then for her conversation with Makoto. Plus Michiru as a mother is a plus, too. This is a long "moment" but I wanted to get both the scene with Hotaru in, and the scene with Makoto in, plus the hilarious line about "Slumber Party Setsuna being a lot like Rest of the Time Setsuna." That's the funniest line I've heard in a while.
Moment:
She knew she didnt have a chance when it was suggested, but shed played along anyway. It was just bad luck that the person she had to race against was Haruka. Even with the handicap shed been granted, Ami had still been lapped twice. She didnt mind, though. She had Usagi, who was standing at the sink drying the dishes as Ami washed, to sympathize with her. And the whole idea of a Gran Turismo death match to determine who would be doing the clean-up had amused Makoto.
I wish you guys would let me help, complained Makoto. She sat at the breakfast counter, watching as her friends washed the dinner dishes. Theyre my dishes, after all.
You dont have to, said Ami as she rinsed off a soapy glass and handed it to Usagi to dry. Besides, thats the last one.
Ive got one more for you, said Haruka as she came into the kitchen. In her arms was a drowsy and chocolate covered Hotaru.
Haruka walked over to the sink and set Hotaru on the counter beside it. She always winds up wearing half her ice cream, she said as she ran warm water over a paper towel.
Hotaru was barely awake, but it was enough for her to turn her face away and fidget when Haruka brought the towel close to her. Uhn uhn dont wanna, said the little girl unhappily.
Harukas hand followed Hotarus mouth. Come on, Hotaru. Just let me get you cleaned up.
No. Want Michiru-mama to give me a bath.
Im not giving you a bath, sighed Haruka. I just want to get the chocolate off of you so you dont get any on the car.
Hotaru made more unhappy noises as she turned her head to the other side, away from the wet towel. It hurts, she whined as Haruka made another attempt to get the ice cream off her chin.
All right, gave in Haruka, I wont wash your face. Let me see your hands.
Uhnnn, was the sound Hotaru made as she put her hands behind her back.
Usagi was having a hard time keeping herself from laughing as the great Tenoh Haruka was being totally frustrated by a tired and petulant eight-year-old.
Come on, Hotaru, said Haruka as she tried to get to Hotarus hands, stop acting like a baby.
That did it. Hotarus lip trembled and tears filled her half closed eyes. Im not a baby, she said, her voice hitching.
Haruka bowed her head in total defeat as the tears began to fall. Hey, now, dont cry. I didnt mean it, she said calmly as she tried to pick Hotaru back up.
The little girl wasnt having any of it. Her voice rose in pitch as she pushed Harukas hands away from her.
Haruka stood where she was and crossed her arms over her chest, waiting. It was roughly ten seconds before Hotaru, upset that Haruka hadnt tried harder to get a hold of her, cried for her papa and put her arms out to be picked up.
The crying had gotten the attention of everyone in the living room. Chibi-usa raised her head from the spot she was curled up in on the couch beside Setsuna. Her eyes blinked sleepily and her mouth hung open, not awake enough to ask a question.
Setsuna placed a hand gently on Chibi-usas head. Go back to sleep, Small Lady. Theres nothing to be concerned about.
The girl didnt need anymore than that. She was asleep again before her head hit the cushion.
Rei and Minako looked up from the game they were playing.
Thats her tired cry, explained Michiru for them. I think she passed her limit about half an hour ago.
Michiru stood and started towards the kitchen, limping because of her injured leg. She made it three steps before Setsuna was at her side, offering support. Michiru smiled her thanks to her friend.
They entered the kitchen with Rei and Minako curious and close behind them.
She didnt want to take a bath, said Haruka as she swayed gently with Hotaru.
The childs cries were down to soft hiccups and her eyes were nearly closed.
Trying to bathe her in the sink again, Haruka, teased Michiru lightly. Id thought you had learned your lesson the last time.
What happened? asked Makoto.
It was the first time we had her, said Haruka softly, so she wouldnt disturb Hotaru. I had no idea soapy babies were so slippery. After that Michiru would always bathe her. Even this time around, she wouldnt let anyone else do it. Haruka grinned. Shes very possessive and jealous, you know.
Michiru made a noise that meant youre one to talk and limped over to the counter by the sink. Leaning against it, she picked up the towel Haruka had tried to use earlier and brought it to Hotarus chin. The sleeping child didnt notice as her face and hands were wiped clean.
As Michiru set Hotarus hand back against Harukas shoulder, she said, She got your shirt.
I have something you can put on that, spoke up Makoto. So the stain doesnt set.
Haruka nodded and handed Hotaru off to Setsuna. She followed Makoto back to the bedroom.
Makoto found a white, button-down shirt similar to the one Haruka was wearing. A slight blush crept onto her cheeks and she quickly turned away as the racer casually took her shirt off to replace it with the one handed to her.
Haruka grinned at the younger girls reaction. Thanks for the shirt.
No problem, answered Makoto. She coughed lightly. You can put Hotaru in here if you guys want to stay a while longer, she ventured.
Thanks, answered Haruka, but its late. We should really be going.
Makoto peeked over her shoulder. Seeing Haruka button the last of the buttons on the shirt, Makoto turned back to face her. Everyone else is staying. Ami was already going to. Rei wants to stay with Minako because of what happened tonight, and the only way she can is if they both stay here. And theres no way Usagi can wake Chibi-usa up enough to get her home, so theyre stuck here. We could put the kids in here together so they wont be disturbed.
A slumber party, huh, said Haruka, amused at the idea. Why not? But I get to tell Setsuna.
An odd image of Setsuna in frilly purple pajamas, cotton between her painted toes and Michiru doing odd things to her hair popped into Makotos mind. She laughed lightly, wondering what Slumber Party Setsuna was really like.

As it turned out, Slumber Party Setsuna was a lot like Rest of the Time Setsuna. She claimed the couch as her bed while the rest of the girls found spots on the floor.
Haruka and Usagi put Hotaru and Chibi-usa in Makotos bedroom. Usagi had to struggle with the pink haired little girl, all the while muttering about dead weight and too many sweets. Her actions belied her words, however, as she brushed aside Chibi-usas bangs and kissed the girls forehead.
As Makoto reached up in the hall closet, Haruka reached over her. The blonde pulled down the extra pillows Makoto was aiming for and handed them to her. She then reached up to get the blankets.
I didnt want her at first, said Haruka quietly as she pulled the blankets off the top shelf.
Makoto looked at the other girl, surprised by the admission. Setsuna just showed up with her one day, went on Haruka, and I felt like all my choices were being taken from me. I didnt want to be responsible for another person that way. I certainly didnt want a child. She smirked. And I didnt want to share Michiru. It amazes me how much has changed in such a short period of time. Now shes my second favorite thing to wake up to.
Hotarus lucky to have you guys, said Makoto.
Some people wouldnt agree with you, replied Haruka. Anyway, what Im trying to say is, if you need anything or want to talk, I understand some of what youre going through.
Thanks, smiled Makoto.

Title: Ah-un no kokyuu
Reason/Explination: The plot of this one is pretty easy to tell from the dialouge in this, pretty much all that happened before this was that both Haruka and Michiru were having the same problem, not people able to stop looking at each other long enough to get thier breath back. But neither knew the other was interested. In the beginning, Haruka sprains her ankle, which she makes reference to in this snippet. I liked this moment mostly for what Haruka says about all the clues as to her blatant lesbianism. It's just amusing, I guess. ^_^
Moment:
"And were you honest when you told me that you had been following me that you wanted a ride in my car?"

Michiru looked away.

"Were you?"

"Yes." Michiru ground out the word. "Yes and now Im paying for it."

"Have I made you feel that way?"

"No."

"Then whats changed?"

The silence between them filled the room. Michiru took a deep breath and looked closely at Haruka. Tousled hair, deep eyes full of concern, she was so beautiful

"Ive changed." Michirus voice was hard again.

"You dont want those things now?" Haruka sounded sad. "Because ever since weve worked together, its been as if you dont want to be near me."

"Its not that!" Michiru couldnt stop herself. "Its not that its exactly the opposite. I want to be near you, I want to be with you," she could feel the tears slipping down her cheek, "I want to be with you." She said, as the tears took over.

Haruka stood and walked over to Michiru, putting her arms around the smaller woman.

Sniffling, Michiru pushed herself out of Harukas embrace. "No, its no good. We really shouldnt work together."

Haruka looked distinctly annoyed. "Why the hell not? Didnt you just say you wanted to be together?" She turned away angrily. "Am I missing something?"

Michiru wiped her eyes. "No, oh gods. Haruka." Her tone of voice was sharp enough to make the blonde spin in place, to find Michiru standing directly behind her.

The green-haired woman reached up and slid her hands along Harukas jaw, until she cupped her head. Standing on her toes, and pulling Haruka down, Michiru let her lips linger lightly on Harukas, then pressed them together. Sadly, she released Haruka, and turned away.

"Thats why we cant be together, Haruka. Because of that."

Haruka closed her mouth with a snap. She felt the first giggle inside and managed to choke it down, but the second one was too strong. Her laughter was rough and a little hysterical, but it was laughter. Michiru turned to stare, while the blonde fell into convulsive fits of chuckles and snorts.

"And how is that funny?" Michiru asked coldly.

Haruka had herself under control now, with only the occasional snigger interrupting. "Michiru, look at me."

Michiru did, but did not speak.

"When you said you wanted a ride in my car, I thought you were just another giggling girl fan. Even after we started to work together I never thought you" Harukas face became serious. "Im sorry. I didnt realize that you were going through the same thing I was."

Michirus mind raced. "The same thing? Then"

Haruka laughed again. "I wear mens clothing, I bike, I race cars and I sprained my ankle watching your legs in a fight." Michiru looked startled at that last statement. "What kind of person did you think I was?" Haruka continued, smiling.

Michiru colored slightly. "I didnt think that far into it. I just assumed"

Haruka took Michirus hands in her own. "Im sorry. I just assumed too." They squeezed each others hands tightly.

"Really?" Haruka smiled down at Michiru. "You really never thought about it? Be honest."

Michirus face flushed completely. "Of course I did. Its just that its not something you ask someone, is it?"

"No." Harukas voice was soft. "No, its not."

Michiru looked up at her, only to find Haruka leaning down. Almost shyly, Michiru touched Harukas face, then brought her lips to meet the other womans.

A sweet kiss, everything a kiss should be. They parted with a sigh.

Haruka slipped an arm around Michirus waist and pulled the shorter woman close.

"We have to stop the Silence." The blondes voice was grim.

"Yes."

"Before today, I had a destiny. You know what I mean? It was bigger than I am a *DESTINY*. But now its different, I dont give a hoot about my destiny right now. I have a purpose." Haruka squeezed Michiru, then pulled away. "I have to stop the Silence, so that one day we can be together."

Michiru stepped back and nodded gravely. "Until we stop the Silence and find the Talismans, we dont have time for love." She sighed. "But, Haruka, one day, when this is all over we will be together, right?"

"Yes. I promise."

"Until then," and Michiru smiled, brightly. "I get to tease, right?" She slipped her arm through Harukas and flipped her hair back.

"Hunh," Haruka snorted. "Like I could stop you."

They laughed.

Title: Ice on Fire
Chapter: 2
Reason/Explination: Well, in this story, Ami has come to grips with being gay and tells Haruka and Michiru, but no one else. They hook her up with some places to meet women, but Ami is really only interested in Rei. Lots of humerous things happen when Ami is hanging out with Rei one day, the first thing Rei asks her, pretty much, is if Ami has ever been in love, to which Ami replies that she is currently in love but that it was unrequitted. Later that night she leaves to go to one lesbian bar, a very sophisticated place, if I do say so myself. However, Usagi, Minako and Rei all followed her there and Bones, the bouncer, let them in. That's where this snippet picks up. I liked this moment because of how nice that goddam club is, I wish there was a place like that around here. Plus Ami seems very mature in this fanfic, which I like, and this is just a cute scene in general.
Moment:
Usagi had to leave them first, going out to see Mamoru. Minako had simply not come back after she disappeared to dance and then to parts unknown along with Bones the bouncer, causing raised eyebrows in the remaining group, and a certain amount of speculation. Haruka and Michiru excused themselves once the slow dances started, and Rei and Ami were finally sitting alone.

Ami sipped her drink slowly, and smiled at Rei. "I'm glad you've taken this so well," Ami said as she looked around the room. Rei laughed.

Rei said with a rueful smile "It's not so bad. To be honest, I think we were imagining something worse as we walked up that hallway." Ami raised her eyebrow, looking interested. "I mean... oh, hell. I though you were after a married man." Rei confessed with a sigh.

Ami just gaped at her a minute, her mouth hanging open, making Rei blush. Then she broke out laughing, pointing with a shaking finger while choking out "Married man?!" Rei just sighed again. "Married woman, maybe," Ami said, chuckling, "but not a man!"

"You were being so mysterious." Rei said shrugging. "And speaking of mysterious, who is the lucky lady you have a crush on?" Rei asked suddenly as she looked around the room.

Ami gazed at Rei steadily, watching the play of light in the highlights of her hair. "You," Ami said quietly, without thinking about it. Rei turned to her slowly, eyes wide. ‘The cat's out of the bag now,' Ami thought as she smiled wryly, and spoke louder, "It's you." She shrugged and smiled.

"You're not joking, are you?" Rei asked Ami quietly. Ami just shook her head, no, too scared to even speak.

"I'm sorry," Ami managed to choke out, but Rei just smiled at her, putting her hand on Ami's comfortingly.

"No, I'm sorry." Rei said quietly but forcefully. She looked at Ami with those piercing eyes, saying "I haven't treated you very well, have I?" She suddenly blushes, remembering how she changed in front of her this morning.

"You didn't know." Ami said, smiling at her tentatively. "Would you like something to drink?" Ami changed the subject, and headed for the lineup at the bar. Rei's eyes followed her as she left, her thoughts whirling.

Ami carried the drinks over and placed them down on the table, and taking a seat. "I'm not quite sure how I feel, Ami, " Rei said quietly, looking down at the table. "I've known you for such a long time, and I'm definitely not used to thinking about you in a sexual way." she continued, blushing. Ami opened her mouth to speak, and Rei shushed her. "But I care a lot for you, and today I realized that it may not just be friendship."

Ami's eyes widened. "Are you saying what I think you're saying?" she asked softly.

"I'm still up in the air, Ami." Rei cautioned her. "But I'd like to find out. Would you like to go out with me on a date?"

Ami laughed softly. "Not like today, please!" she said dramatically. The two shared a laugh over the day's events. "How about I take you out to dinner, we do some dancing, and see what develops?" Ami suggested hopefully.

"I'd like that." Rei said smiling.

Title: Truth of Wood, Beauty of Water
Reason/Explination: This is actually the second story in a series. In the previous story, Makoto and Ami admit thier love for each other and are together. Other things are heppening in this story (mainly that Ami and Mako make a *ahem* video of themselves and are eventually found out), but I liked this part in particular. Any closeted gay or lesbian knows the feeling of ice gripping your heart in fear of what your parents may think of you when they find out, so I definently sympathise with Ami in this one. By the way, Kethry is Ami's mother, Megumi is Ami's (bitchy) aunt, and Sakura is Ami's (equally as bitchy) cousin.
Moment:
"Hmm? Oh yes...Haruka and Michiru...wonderful girls...I'm glad Ami made friends with them...lovely wedding too. In fact, Ami helped plan it. I'm really rather surprised that they invited me, but it was a beautiful ceremony, so I'm not going to look a gift in the mouth!"

Megumi was nearly speechless.

"You...you not only let your daughter associate with people like that...you actually approve?"

A bit confused, Kethry asked

"Why wouldn't I be? They're wonderful people, and good role models for Ami. Michiru is a concert violinist, and Haruka's a champion sportswoman. My daughter could model herself after a lot of worse people."

"But...what if Ami picked up their ways?"

Kethry was even more confused now.

"What do you mean, their ways?"

Ami was embarrassed speechless, and Sakura was having trouble holding in laughter.

"What if she becomes...a lesbian?"

Ami felt like there were a fist of ice clenching her heart, as Megumi said the last as if it were so vile a thought that she could barely speak it, but her sister just smiled at her daughter and said,

"What's so bad about that? Haruka and Michiru really seem to make each other happy. And if Ami found someone who could do that for her, male or female, I would welcome them into my family with open arms."

Even though her aunt just grumbled through the rest of dinner, Ami felt as if not only the fist had unclenched itself from her heart, it had left wings in its place.

Author: Sailor Doc
Title: Nocturne
Reason/Explination: Nocturn is a very cute little companion piece to Crawlspace's "The Cruelty and Fairness of Fate." It's something of a side-adventure with Ami and Makoto while Makoto is very late into her pregnancy. Ami has been working her little butt off over the past few weeks to get a lot of her work done so she can focus on Miki, the baby, once he is born. I like this piece because it really drills the idea that Ami really wants Miki and considers him her son into you. Plus it's completely WAFFy, and I'm a sucker for WAFF. Last side note on this one, all of Sailor Doc's works are very good, so I suggest reading the whole lot of 'em if you like this one.
Moment:
"Hey, little guy," she said gently as she watched the tiny thumps against her partners belly. "Did my light wake you up?"

As if in answer, the tiny thumps returned with vigor, causing a delighted smile to cross her features.

'I wonder if Makoto's right and he really does recognize my voice,' she mused as Mako released her hand and shifted onto her back, covering the previously exposed area, but revealing another, slightly larger one.

Just as Ami started to miss seeing the tiny bumps from her playful son, she saw them again, this time from under the newly exposed area.

'Hm-m-m,' her tired, yet still agile mind thought. 'I wonder if he can see the light, and that's what's got him going?'

Turning off the lamp, Ami reached into the bedside drawer and removed a small penlight, then scooted down in the bed next to Makoto's belly. With a quick glance upward, Ami confirmed that her lover was still asleep and seemed comfortable. Taking a deep breath, Ami raised the penlight and flashed it over the exposed skin on Mako's tummy. As she watched intently in the dim light from the window, a gentle tap hit exactly where she had shown the light! With a grin of delight, Ami unconsciously held her breath and tried again. Once again, a tiny tap hit the area she had flashed! Deciding to challenge her new discovery, Ami carefully exposed more of Makoto's stomach, and flashed a different area. Sure enough, a small 'thump' appeared at the same spot she had lighted! Enchanted, Ami continued her game, trying different areas, always with the same result. One flash here. Another here. Two more over there.

'Whoa! Okay, he had to have used his foot for that one,' Ami concluded after one particularly difficult test.

Losing all track of time, she added flashes, as many as three, and always the thumps hit right where she had shown her light. After several minutes of this delightful game, she began to get the feeling she was being watched. Looking up, she found her eyes captured by the knowing, gentle gaze of her partner.

"Are you two having fun yet?" Makoto asked sleepily. Smiling, she reached forward to run her fingers softly through Ami's hair.

"I'm sorry, love," Ami said, her guilty conscious kicking itself into high gear. "Did I wake you up?" she asked, though the answer was pretty obvious. "I really didn't mean to."

"It's okay," Makoto said as she watched the way Ami's blue locks sifted through her fingers. Ami's eyes closed in pleasure as she let herself get lost in the wonderfully relaxing aura she felt surrounding her as Makoto continued to caress her hair. "Just what did you call what you were doing anyway?" Makoto asked as she let her fingers drift over Ami's right cheek.

After taking a moment to think about it, Ami opened her eyes and, smiling at her lover, answered rather simply:

"I was playing with my son."

Unbidden, tears sprang to Makoto's eyes as she felt the depth of the love within her almost as if it were a physical presence lodged within the center of her chest, as surely as her heart was.

Swallowing the lump in her throat, she whispered, "He's missed you, you know."

"Yeah, I've missed him too," Ami said, stroking the rounded tummy of her love, "but not quite as much as I've been missing you. Are you okay?" she asked, gently leaning her cheek against Makoto's swollen side.

"I'm fine," Makoto said, regaining her composure. "Really," she reassured her lover. "I'm just, I don't know...tired of being tired all the time, I guess. Tired of feeling bloated and fat and clumsy, and..."

"Sh-h-h-h. Enough of that," Ami said as she hastily scooted up to the head of the bed to wrap her frustrated partner in her arms. "I guess I've really been negligent in my duties if you've started feeling this way."

"The facts are the facts," Makoto said, even as she cuddled against her smaller partner. "I'm as big as a house, I eat all the time I'm not sleeping, which isn't very often, and I'm as graceful as an elephant trying to perform 'Swan Lake'. You make the call."

Title: Best Friends
Chapter: 12
Reason/Explination: This is a bit later in the fic than the snippet from #15, but Ami and Makoto are still being slow to get together. However, this is a monumental scene in the fic. Ami goes to visit Makoto at her job working in a restaurant, and the two sit at a table to share a conversation. Ami is about to confront her mother about herself and Makoto and the fact that Urawa Ryo squealed and Makoto is concerned for our favourite blue-haired prodogy. Also, as a side note, Makoto is scheduled for a basketball game against her old friend who's in town and dating Minako. (One of the only origional charecters I've ever liked.) This is another one of those WAFFy moments that I'm oh-so-prone to, but the fact that this is really well-written and detailed puts it high on the list.
Moment:
Nodding in agreement, Makoto asked, "Are you going to be all right? I might be able to get the rest of the night off." Her expression betrayed the unlikelihood of that, however.

Ami shook her head, squeezing Makoto's hand. "I'll be fine, Mako-chan, you don't need to do that. Besides, you need to rest up for your big game tomorrow. I just know you'll win."

Makoto frowned, obviously more than ready to dispense with the game entirely if Ami needed her.

Ami reassured her again, "I'm fine. You've already helped me more than you know." She looked down at their joined hands, lightly stroking Makoto with her thumb. "You know, it's funny. We haven't even kissed yet, but I feel like we've been dating for weeks, if not years."

Makoto dropped her eyes, suddenly shy, but resisted the urge to pull her hand back. Ami reinforced that decision by grasping it with her other hand, now caressing it with both thumbs. "I... I know what you mean, Ami-chan. Part of me thinks we have so much to talk about, but another part wonders why, when we both already know." Cautiously, she raised her gaze back to Ami's.

Ami reached out slowly and dusted some flour off of Makoto's shoulder, then brushed a stray lock of hair off of her face, letting her fingers linger on the nape of her neck. Closing her eyes and taking a deep breath, she pulled her hand back to join the other, holding Makoto's captive. "I've still got one thing to take care of, Mako-chan," Ami tentatively told her.

This time, Makoto offered a reassuring smile and squeeze. "Your mother. That's not going to be easy, Ami-chan. Are you sure you want to?"

"I do. I think I can. I hope I can," Ami sighed.

She seemed so suddenly vulnerable that Makoto wanted nothing more than to wrap her in her arms and take her far away from everything. Instead, she did the only thing she could think to do, to offer up the kind of support that she knew her love would need. "Ami-chan, you've been my best friend for so long now that it's like you've become a part of me. My best friend, and so much more. I will always be here for you, no matter what she says or does, no matter what anyone thinks." Her tongue faltered at the last, as her heart leapt from her chest and caught it up. She willed the tears to stop, but didn't expect to succeed.

"Hey Kino! Break's over and you're needed back in the kitchen!" Tetsuo informed her, passing by with a full tray of dishes, obviously too preoccupied to notice her situation.

Ami grasped Makoto's hand tightly and then reluctantly let go. "You should go, I don't want you to get in trouble. Thank you. I think that's just what I needed."

Makoto struggled to get a hold of herself, forcing both tears and heart back to their places. She felt exposed and incomplete, as if she was waiting for something.

Rising from the table and slipping her jacket on, Ami crossed over to Makoto and leaned down to whisper in her ear.

"I love you."

Her lips paused briefly to place a surreptitious kiss on Makoto's earlobe before she rose again. More loudly she said, "I'll see you tomorrow!"

Makoto stared at Ami in ecstatic disbelief. Just before the young girl left, she managed to catch her eye.

"I love you" she mouthed silently.

For the rest of her shift, she saw nothing else but the smile with which Ami had responded to her message and heard nothing else but those three words which had changed her life forever.

Title: Dangerous Curves
Reason/Explination: Somehow, Haruka is suckered into giving Usagi driving lessons for her birthday. Along the way to a place where she can teach Usagi without inturruptions, Usagi is being thrown around the car, pretty much, by the twists and turns on the road. Haruka tries to explain to her about how to accept the car and move with it. That's what's going on here. Now, let me tell you something. If I could have put this whole damn fic in here, I would have. This is probably one of the first fanfics I ever read because I wanted insight into how people could ever think Haruka and Usagi could be together. I was pleasently suprised to see that this fic didn't exactly make a believer out of me, mostly because a relationship between them is clearly impossible. I dunno, if you really want to understand what I mean, you have to read the fic.
Moment:
Haruka slowed slightly to be heard over the wind. "Relax. Let the car move youjust feel the movements of the road beneath you" her voice slowed, softening into a slow drawl. "It's like making love, you relax into your partner, moving with them, getting into the rhythm of their" She cut off abruptly, reddening slightly. "IumsorryI forgot, I mean, I assumeddo youknow what I mean?" Her voice petered out lamely.

Usagi met her gaze evenly, although there was a definite pinkness to her cheeks. "Yes, I know what you mean." Haruka bit back a nervous laugh.

The younger woman closed her eyes, and relaxed back into her seat. Haruka watched her surreptitiously for a moment, then increased her speed around a particularly sharp turn. This time Usagi let the car move her, conforming herself to its motion, and remained relaxed in her seat. Haruka grinned, shifted into a higher gear and laid the accelerator down. This was her element, the road before her, a good motor under her handsthe wind whipped through her short hair and for a few minutes, Haruka forgot anything but the feel of the road, the connection between her and the wheel under her gloved hands.

Author: Crawlspace
Title: The Cruelty and Fairness of Fate
Chapter: 15
Reason/Explination: I know, I know! This is the last one, I promise! >_< I just can't help it. The three moments that I put from this fanfic are seriously some of the best moments ever, so of course they had to make the list. This one in particular practically moved me to tears. Ami and Makoto confront Kaya, Ami's (wonderfully awesome) mother, about Ami moving in with Makoto. Kaya is about to say no, but Ami stands up for herself, something that Kaya has been worried about Ami's lack-of-doing for a long time. Ami's heartfelt speach in this snippet is the most passionate thing I've read in a long time.
Moment:
When they were alone, Kaya looked down to her daughter. The poor girl looked like she was waiting for the executioners ax to fall. Then Kaya realized that Ami was, in a sense, and it bothered her greatly to be looked at as the one wielding it.
Without meaning to, Kaya began a slow trek back and forth in front of her daughter. Ive heard what Makoto had to say, and I know what she wants, said Kaya. Now I need to know what you want, Ami. And I need for you to be completely honest with me. She stopped moving and stood with her arms crossed over her chest, not realizing at all how intimidating it made her seem.
Hands wringing in her lap, Ami looked up at her mother and said in a small voice, I want her. She looked down quickly, her cheeks warming at an uncomfortable subject. I love her and want to be with her. The baby as well. I want them to be part of my family. To do that, I need to be there with them, but not as a visitor or friend or even as Mako-chans girlfriend. I need to be there all the time, not just because Mako-chan needs me, but because Miki will also. It still sounds a bit strange to say this, but it feels right when I do. I need to be there as a parent, Mom. I cant do it properly if Im living somewhere else.
As a parent, repeated Kaya slowly. Her fingers came up to pinch the bridge of her nose. I think I need to sit down, she said as she moved unsteadily to the couch.
Mom, please try to understand, pleaded Ami.
Kaya looked at her child, a small, gentle smile forming on her lips. Sweetheart, I do understand, she said softly. I understand that you love her, and that right now because of that you feel like you need to be with her every second of every day. I also understand that the kind of love you feel blinds you to all of someones faults and all of the problems that may come up from becoming involved in a relationship like this. Kaya reached over a placed a hand over Amis. Ami, youve only been with her like this for one month. Thats barely a drop in the bucket compared to the sort of commitment you want to take on. Im afraid the two of you dont fully comprehend that.
Kaya stood suddenly and began to pace once again. What you are suggesting is, essentially, a marriage. Its hard enough when two fully grown adults try to make it work. The two of you are still in high school, and with the baby It just makes the odds that much worse, because babies, as much as we may love them, dont always make things better. More often than not, they just make things harder.
Stopping a few feet from Ami, Kaya turned to her daughter. Now, understand that I dont have a problem with you wanting to see each other. Im fond of Makoto, and if youre willing to accept the situation the way it is, then I wont try to tell you not to. However, anything beyond that, at the moment, I cant agree to. Finish high school first. Spend some time getting to know each other as a couple and everything that entails, and if you still want this at that point, Ill give you my consent.
Ami shook her head almost imperceptibly. Then, surprising both her mother and herself, stood and said, No. Taking a breath and pushing forward before Kaya could recover, Ami went on, Graduation is over a year away. The baby is due in three months. I admit that we may not completely understand what its going to be like after hes born or what its going to be like for us together with him, but well figure things out. But to do that, I need to be there now.
You can still be there, Ami, returned Kaya, moving a bit closer to Ami. I just want you to take a step back and really see the situation youre walking into. Give it some time so that youre absolutely certain this is what you want so you dont have any regrets later on.
Im already certain of what I want, said Ami, her voice gaining strength in desperation. The only regret I could and do have in any of this is missed time. If I wait until I finish school, an entire year of Mikis life will have passed. If someone had told you to take a step back after I was born and to wait a year to decide if you really wanted me, what would you have done?
Its not the same thing, Ami, answered Kaya.
It is to me, replied Ami. Miki is my son. If I lose that year with him, I wont ever get it back. Makoto will wait for me if she has to. Shell even understand why you want us to slow things down a bit. But how can I explain to my son that I had to spend a whole year trying to decide if I wanted him or not?
Kaya sighed deeply and ran a hand through her hair. Oh, Ami, she said quietly as she stepped forward and took her daughter into a loose hug. As Amis arms slowly came up to return the hug, Kaya rested her chin on top of Amis head and said, I just dont want you to get hurt. You are my only concern in all of this, Ami. I want you to be happy, but I dont want you to lose yourself in the moment. You had so many plans for your future. Have you even considered what youre going to do about college? You used to talk about going abroad to study. You even had all the best places picked out for each field you were interested in. Do you understand how much of that youll have to give up if you take this on?
Ami pulled back so she could see her mothers face, but didnt completely release her. I think Im gaining more than Im giving up, she said. Besides, I decided some time ago, even before Mako-chan, that I wanted to stay here and go to school. Some of the best schools in the country are right here in my own backyard, and I hardly consider attending them as settling for something less. Plus, my friends are all here, as well as my family, said Ami, smiling up at her mother. I dont want to leave any of them. And you know you dont have to worry about Mako-chan ever forcing me to stay or trying to keep me from doing something I want. If she thought I wasnt happy or truly wanted to study someplace far away, she would likely take me down to the pier and put me on the next boat out herself.
Returning the smile Ami was giving her with just a bit of sadness, Kaya said, Youre still supposed to be a little girl, you know. I feel like Ive missed a step somewhere.
I think weve all been feeling a bit like that lately, replied Ami.
Kaya held Amis gaze for several seconds longer, then slowly nodded. Okay, Ami. Okay. She sighed. Before anything else happens, the three of us need to sit down and talk. There are some things I want made clear before I actually agree to this. Kaya couldnt help but smile at the huge grin that lit up Amis face. She added, But were going to do it after I clean up the dinner dishes. I need some time to digest all of this for myself.
Ami hugged her mother tightly then. Thank you, she said happily.
Kaya chuckled. Dont thank me just yet. I still get to try and scare off your girlfriend with evil glances and stories of your childhood.

Title: The Wall
Reason/Explination: Haruka gets into a really bad car wreck when racing one day, and Michiru and Usagi-tachi are all hanging around the hostpital, waiting to see when (or if) she'll wake up. Michiru is going through a lot of emotional turmoil, but never really shows it until the end, once they know Haruka will be OK. I thought that the author's portrayal of the charecters was perfect, particularly Haruka in this scene. I love her use of the phrase, "My two favourite ladies." Secretly, this fanfic influenced one of my own. I just really like it, is all.
Moment:
"Hi," was the first word out of Haruka's mouth when she opened her eyes and saw Michiru sitting next to where she lay (she assumed it was a bed).

"Hi, sleepyhead," Michiru grinned. "How do you feel?"

"Weak," Haruka sighed. She was silent for a few moments, like she was remembering the crash. "The last thing I remember is seeing the wall come up on me so fast. How bad is it?"

"Not as bad as it could have been," Michiru told her. "You gave us all a scare for a while. But you'll be up and leering at the nurses soon enough."

"Sorry if I worried you," Haruka whispered.

"You didn't do it on purpose," Michiru replied, gliding her fingertips over Haruka's lips. Haruka kissed them lightly.

"I'm so glad you got through it, Haruka," Usagi said.

"Hey, Dumpling," Haruka whispered, noticing the dark circles under Usagi's eyes. "My two favorite ladies are here. So did you use up every tissue in the place?"

"Ohhhhh!" wailed Usagi and the torrent burst forth anew.

"Better call the nurse," Haruka smiled weakly to Michiru. "They're going to have to change the sheets pretty soon if she keeps up like that."

"Be nice," smirked Michiru, gently swatting Haruka's arm.

"How's the car?" Haruka breathed weakly.

"From what I understand, they're picking it up a piece at a time with tweezers."

"Damn! That car was just beginning to run right, too. Next time, I'll have to . . ." and Haruka glanced at her lover when she sensed Michiru tense. The blonde expelled a guilty sigh. "I'm sorry. You know I have to go back to it, don't you?"

"I know," Michiru said calmly, though tears began to form around the edges of her eyes. "It's something you need to do. I understand need. Don't worry about me. I promised to walk at your side down whatever path you took. I don't break my promises."

"Even if I end up right back here again?" Haruka asked. "Or worse?"

"I think the phrase is 'until death do us part' in the English ceremony."

"I'll try to be careful," Haruka murmured.

"I'll try not to worry too much," Michiru said. She placed her hand in Haruka's and felt her lover's hand squeeze ever so slightly.

"OH THAT'S SO BEAUTIFUL!" wailed Usagi and began crying anew.

Title: Interregnum
Chapter: 15
Reason/Explination: How to explain the plot of this story until up to this point... ^^; Let's see. Well, or course there was the usual "Ami/Mako and Rei/Mina get-together," but this one is unique because it has a real plot. There's been this crazy "hypercancer" going around in the world, and all the Senshi have been keeping an eye on it, particularly because Usagi's brother and father both die from it and her mother is getting sick. They (Ami) figure out that the hypercancer is caused by negative magic from the sun, so they are planning to freeze the world in crystal and then work to get out all the negative magic until the sun stops giving it off. This particular moment was the first time that reading a fanfiction gave me chills. I've always tried to stress on the fact that Usagi is a queen and that all the Senshi are literally her protectors, not just her friends. I dunno, call me a wierdo or an obsessive freak if you will, but I absolutely love this snippet. Enjoy! ^_^
Moment:
Suddenly, the phone rang. Makoto glanced at the caller ID. "It's from your house, Usagi-chan. Maybe it's your husband." Mamoru had remained behind to watch the baby, as Ikuko had grown much too ill to tend the little one on her own. Wordlessly, Usagi took the receiver. "Mamo-chan," she said quietly. Her friends watched in silence as she listened to her husband. The blood drained from her face and her eyes grew moist. "I'll be home right away," she said eventually. "I love you, too, Mamo- chan." Hanging up the phone, she turned to the room.

"Ikuko-mama did not wake up this morning," she said in a steely voice. Everyone gasped. Some sobbed or began to cry openly. Usagi stood grimly, tears welling her eyes. "You all, and Mamo- chan and Usagi, are my family now. We have a job to do so that not one person more than we can avoid need suffer similar losses." She smiled wanly at her friends. "I will need you all to do this, just as I've always needed all of you to win any battle. I will need all of your power, for we have a very large area to cover. I know I can count on you."

"Oh Usagi," Rei whispered weakly through her tears. Ikuko had been the closest thing she had had to a mother.

Usagi laid a hand gently on Rei's shoulder, shaking her head lightly. "There is only one Usagi now," she said, her tears flowing freely.

Rei nodded, understanding immediately. The world would never again be the same from this day forward. Taking Minako's hand in her own, she slid from the sofa to the floor, onto one knee. Ami, Makoto, then Haruka, Michiru, Setsuna, and Hotaru all followed suit. Luna and Artemis dropped their heads respectfully as well. "Queen Serenity," they all whispered in unison.
