Losing It
Part Seven: Repercussions
Heero got out bed, feeling
the empty covers where Duo should have been. It had been about three
weeks since they had first made love, at least he thought that’s what
they had done, and surprisingly Duo hadn’t really touched him since
then. They slept in the same bed and all, but that was pretty much it.
Heero got out of bed. To tell the truth, since that day he had been
feeling somewhat ashamed of himself. He hadn’t told Dr.Tanuki, yet, and
was afraid of what the doctor might say. He was also feeling nauseous,
frequently throwing up in the morning, and he contributed that to the
physical manifestation of his emotional being. And he was also eating a
lot, probably to fill up the emotional void he felt inside. Heero
sighed, making his way to the kitchen to see if Rashid could roll up
some American cheese slices into balls and dip them into
chocolate...yum. And maybe after that he’d have ice cream with pickles.
All thoughts of food were suddenly banished from Heero’s mind as he
felt something tugging at his stomach, and he ran into the nearest
bathroom, which was in Quatre’s study. He had just finished and was
wiping his mouth clean when Quatre and Duo walked into the room,
oblivious to Heero’s presence.
Quatre walked over to his desk, rummaging around in one of the drawers.
"So what did you want to talk to me about, Quat?"
"Just that your new custom Bimota is here."
"No shit!" Duo grinned happily. "Do you have the keys?"
"Yeah, hold on." Finally, Quatre lifted his hand out of the drawer,
tossing the new keys to Duo. "You know, I still can’t believe you won
the bet. I thought for sure Heero wouldn’t give it up so easily."
"Yeah, well, Quatre, you just don’t have the Maxwell charm."
Quatre snickered. "So was he a good lay?"
Duo smirked and was about to answer when he looked up, seeing Heero
standing at the bathroom door. Quatre followed Duo’s shocked
expression, falling out of his chair when he saw Heero standing there.
"Excuse me," Heero said, his voice hoarse, as he ran out of the room.
"Heero, matte!" Duo shouted as Heero disappeared. "Dammit."
* * *
Duo found Heero later that evening, sitting under one of the massive
trees in Quatre’s backyard. Walking up to the boy, he was surprised to
see that Heero’s eyes were red and puffy.
"Hey," he said softly, swinging around the tree to take a seat next to
Heero. "Are you okay?"
Heero didn’t answer, so Duo reached out to put his hand on Heero’s
shoulder, only to have it shrugged off.
"Don’t touch me."
Duo pulled his hands back into his lap. "Heero, I’m sorry, you know."
"I’m sure you are." Heero sniffled sarcastically. "So what was this? I
was just a bet to you? It’s not that surprising now that look back on
it; I was so stupid. I bet you lied when you said you loved me, too. I
bet you don’t even like me."
"Heero," Duo started to put a comforting arm around Heero’s shoulder
when Heero glared at him and he decided against it. "I did like you.
That’s why I asked you out in the first place, not because of some
stupid bet. And I don’t lie. Suki da, Heero, honto ni."
Heero just snorted. Duo reached into his pocket, pulling out a small
blue velvet box.
"Heero, I don’t expect you to forgive me so quickly, but I’d like for
you to at least think about it. I thought we were good together, you
know? And I am truly sorry for pushing you like that... I was an
asshole." Duo got up to sit in front of Heero, holding out the box as
he flipped the top open. "I’m not expecting you to say yes, but I
figured it was worth a try. I know how much this kind of stuff means to
you. Ai shiteru, Heero, will you marry me?"
Heero looked at the ring sitting in the gray silk of the box’s
interior. It was platinum, angel wings outstretched from a huge
diamond. "Duo, how could you afford this? It must have cost a fortune."
Duo shrugged. "I sold my new bike."
Heero took the box from Duo’s hands. "Really?"
Duo nodded and opened his mouth to say something, when Heero started to
throw up on the grass. Duo crinkled his nose. "Was that a no or a yes?"
Heero smiled, wiping his mouth with the back of a hand. "Do I get to
keep the ring either way?"
Duo blinked. "Ummm... I guess so..."
"Just testing. It’s a yes. I love you too, Duo."
Duo tentatively pulled Heero into a hug, smiling when Heero burrowed
his head into his chest. "Hey, Heero, are you okay? Throwing up like
that isn’t a normal thing for you, is it?"
"It has been these last few weeks. I’m going to see a doctor tomorrow."
"Oh, okay. I’ll come with you."
"Can we go inside now? I’m hungry."
"Sure." Duo got up and lifted Heero to his feet. "What do you want to
eat?"
"Marshmallow waffles."
"Umm...okay. We’ll see what we can have Rashid do."
Heero nodded, nestling into Duo’s side as they walked back to the
mansion. Things were looking a lot better now... Duo had apologized,
and they were getting married! He had always wanted a June wedding...
Wait, did this mean he couldn’t wear white anymore?
