Domesticating Duo
Part Seven: Making a Baby
Duo was confounded. He had woken up early today and made breakfast for
the both of them only to be given the cold shoulder by Heero. He would
think that the other boy would be happy he was trying to get them to
the wedding rehearsal on time. Duo moved to help Heero out of his chair
as he finished his meal, only to have his hands swatted out of the way.
He chalked it up to Heero's hormonal temperament and moved to leave the
room.
"I'll go get the car. Can you get to the front of the building by
yourself?"
"I'll be fine."
Duo winced at the coldness in Heero's voice, turning to leave.
Heero, on the other hand, wasn't exactly sure of what he should do. Duo
didn't seem to feel any remorse over being with Relena at all. He
decided, though, that they should talk about it after the rehearsal.
There was, after all, a baby to think about.

"We'll start the music when you start walkings towards the aisle…"
Heero tuned out Dorothy's voice, smoothing out his wedding dress. He
wasn't wearing it, not for the rehearsal, but he was keeping it in one
of the cathedral's rooms until tomorrow. It was simple and sleek, white
satin falling down in clean lines.
"Heero? Heero, are you ready?"
"Yeah, I guess so."
Dorothy led Heero out of the room, to take position outside of the main
cathedral hall. The wedding processional started as Heero marched down
the aisle, taking his spot next to Duo. He listened vaguely as the
priest ran through his speech, only really paying attention when he had
to contribute to the ceremony.
"Do you, Heero Yuy, take Duo Maxwell to be your lawfully wedded
husband, through…"
"I…I d…I don't know."
Duo's head shot up. "Nani?"
"I don't know if I can marry you."
Heero turned around, stumbling a little, then gripped his stomach as it
went into convulsions. "Oh…I think…I'm going into labor!"

Duo paced around the waiting room, nervous and confused. Why had Heero
acted like that before? He had thought Heero was happy. They would have
to talk, after the baby was born and Heero was feeling better. He had
really wanted to make this work. But if it wasn't what Heero
wanted…than he would just have to make do without.
"Mr. Maxwell? Mr. Yuy delivered a healthy baby boy…you can come back in
a few minutes."
Duo nodded, composing himself before he went in.

Heero stared groggily as the door to his room opened slowly, blinking
at Duo as he stepped into the room.
"Hey. You look beautiful."
Heero snorted. "No I don't. I look like shit."
"Shit doesn't glow like that." Duo stepped closer to the bed, sitting
down on the edge. "What was today about? At the rehearsal?"
"Duo… I… I know about your bachelor party."
"Bachelor party? What about it? I didn't think you'd have a problem
with me and Quatre going to a bar."
"What? No…I saw you with Relena."
Duo shrugged. "We were helping her home…she was dead drunk."
"But I saw you kissing her."
"Is that what this is all about? She kissed me, I pushed her away, and
that was it."
Heero blinked.
"You believe me, don't you?"
Looking into Duo's eyes, Heero realized we did. "Hai."
Duo grinned. "So the wedding's still on?"
Heero nodded as a nurse came in.
"So is this the father?"
Duo stood up, staring with wide eyes at the small bundle the nurse was
carrying.
"Is that… oh my god…" the nurse deposited the baby into Duo's waiting
arms, leaving the two new parents alone. "Wow… I mean… wow… he's so
beautiful."
He swept a hand over the dark brown fuzz on the baby's head, watching
as he blinked open fuzzy violet eyes.
"Oh my god. He looks like you."
"But he has your eyes."
Duo let out a short laugh. "This is amazing. I can't believe it. We
have a son."
"I was thinking we could name him Odin… after the man who raised me."
Duo sat back down on the bed, smiling at Heero. "Odin. Odin Maxwell.
Wow… we're all… we're going to be okay, aren't we?"
"Yeah," Heero nodded, reaching over to take the tiny thing, "we are."
