COCHE 9069 o "9000"

Car built by BN (Brugeoise et Nivelles) from Belgium, in 1960, and with electrical equipment from ACEC (Atelliers de Constructions Electromecaniques de Charleroi). It has safety devices and comfort`s details for the passenger rarely seen even in our buses of today. Among others, it could be named the following.

  • False rear step (a passenger stepped on it will cause the tram to not close the door and start its ride, preventing any accident to the passenger who`s getting out of the car)
  • Dead man`s pedal (in case of any problem suffered by the motorman, it enables the emergency brake inmediately, both if it`s not pressed or if it`s pressed a lot)
  • Stop resquesting buttons at every column, several handles, etc. (no one has to guess where is that button when stepping out of the tram)
  • Electrical heating, both for the motorman as for the passengers.
  • Semiautomatic fare collector of 1960
When the tramway`s association brought one of those units to Buenos Aires, it did it in order to show that, while in this country the tram was being sweeped off the cities because it was "old", "anachronic", and "blocker of the normal traffic", in another parts of the world it was still been building and improving. This car  took regular service from 1960 until 1980, exactly the time where there were no trams in Buenos Aires, and elsewhere in argentina.

These trams came from an unified design after world war 2, being common in some european cities in the 60s and 70s, and before the "rebirth of the tramway", since the mid 80s. Tram in Gent, Belgium.

Tram in Antwerp, Belgium. Unified design.

Marseille Tram. Along with the tram of Saint Etienne, which was replaced not so long ago by low floor trams, these were the models present in France , a country that also got rid of their tramways systems in the 50s and 60s, learned the hard lesson during the oil crisis of 1973 and now it`s first in the reimplantation of tram systems.

"PCC" Fiat. Was one of the first with this charecteristic design.

All the models shown are today "old" in their origin countries and are stilll in service as secondary vehicles, or they were transferred to museums.
