CAR No. 258 "LACROZE" |
|
|
|
|
|
Car built in
Porto, portugal, following the strict directives of the J.G. Brill Company
at Philadelphia, USA, it recalls a class of tramway that was a classic
within the major private tramway company of Argentina (Compaa de Tranvas Lacroze
Limitada). The original cars were a bit wider and had access doors (thus giving
protection from the weather to the personnel), a well as another confort
details, being one of the most luxurious cars of Buenos Aires.
|
|
|
These cars are still on service in Porto (today only as
museum/heritage cars). Below an image of one brother of the 258, Car No.
250, relative of the "Lacroze", and "Belga" cars,
because both of them belonged to the same original series |

|
These cars were built in 1927, and rode on the streets of
Porto as service cars up to the mid 90`s. Our car was on duty until just
some years before arriving Buenos Aires and put into service (November
15th, 1980). Click on the tramway to see it bigger. They are still
rolling, but only as museum cars. |

Lacroze tramways. We don`t know if the No. 258 is among
them, but something that we already know is that this photo show the
Triunvirato avenue (today called Corrientes), as if the photographer was
looking towards Chacarita, and the railway crossing of the Buenos Aires
and Pacific Railway (Later called San Martn and now ALL). The photo is
from the 20`s. |

Car No. 258 blowing candles as it turns its 20th
anniversary. It is uncredible that more than 20 years passed since the
first time this car rolled over the rails of the circuit of Caballito, at
November 15th, 1980. |
