  PYS Preparation Guidelines
  1. SSEAYP is probably unlike anything you have ever done before -even if you have been on cultural exchanges in the past.
  2. Programme on ship is that the learning, exchange and interaction between participants are focused.
  3. Think about these factors:
    • The amount of time you will spend with everyone.
    • The way different people of varying cultures, background and values.
    • The very structured nature of the programme.
    • The fact you will be away from friends, family and loved ones.
    • The stress of travel.
    • The challenges of communicating in English if you are non-native English speaker.

  Communication and Language
  1. During the programme, you will meet people from many different countries.  Everyone will have a different level of English Language ability.

  2. Be sure to speak in English when you are part of a group of people who come from different countries.

  3. If you are a non-confident English speaker, don't hesitate to try to express yourself in English language.

  Health and Medication
  1. If you have any medical conditions now that will last while you are on the ship, including allergies that you have a strong reaction to, please advice NL now.  This is really important because if something happens during the programme, the NL needs to know all the relevant information.

  2. If you need to take medication on an on-going basis please make sure you tell the NL about it, take enough medication with you to last almost 2 months of the programme.  Please obtain a letter from your doctor that states the nature of your condition and that you need to have this medication.

  3. If you have any special dietary requirements, please inform the NL about these too.

  Travel Insurance
  1. You must take out travel insurance, the organizer will not meet any medical costs excepts treatments by ship doctor during the cruise of the programme.  Therefore each PY ensures that they have travel, medical and accident insurance for the period of the programme.  (Please refer to your Guidelines Book)

  2. Travel insurance usually has other bonuses like cover for loss of luggage that may be useful too.

  3. Whichever company you choose, please make sure your read the policies carefully, and that you organize a.s.a.p.

  GUIDELINES BOOK AND TENTATIVE SCHEDULES
  1. Please read the guidelines book that were given to you thoroughly because they are very important as your guideline throughout the programme. From now onward, you should already understood what are stated in the entire guidelines.

  2. National Leader will attend the 1st Cruise Operating Committee Meeting (COC Meeting) that will be held on Sept 26~29.  All National Leaders from ASEAN Countries and Japan will assemble in Tokyo, Japan to discuss maters regarding the 32nd SSEAYP. 

  3. National Leaders will disseminate the latest information after the meeting to their respective PYS.

 

DISCIPLINES

  1. Be aware that in all situations on the ship, in the countries visited (Port-of-Call) or during the Pre-Departure Training, all PYS are requested to observe the laws and regulations.  The following issues should keep in your mind "You are representing yourself, your delegation and your country".

  2. All PYS should know their limits and be respectful each other. To smokers should aware of designated places of smoking on the ship.

  3. Dress: be prepared to have clothes appropriate for formal and semi-formal occasions.

  4. PYS of SSEAYP enjoy good working relationships with each other, staff, facilitators, advisers.  This means that everyone must be able to live and work in an environment which is free from harassment, that is any behaviour directed towards them that they do not like or do not welcome.

  5. Please know that unacceptable behaviour will be dealt with and one possible outcome could be disqualification from the programme.

  OTHER MATTERS:
  1. To respect for others. Timeliness is a sign of respect.  When you are late you are taking away valuable time from others. Attendance is compulsory, should any problem, please inform your Youth Leader or Assistant Youth Leader.

  2. Disciple: includes being on time, being prepared, participating actively and cooperating with others.

  3. If you have any problems, questions, complaints or suggestions regarding any aspect of the programme, the first person to speak to should be your National Leader. 

  4. Practice mature attitude - not here just for fun, know the real purpose of the programme.

  5. Do some research into the customs of other nations so that you know what you can expect?

  As an individual, How can you contribute to the improvement of this year SSEAYP and international Friendships?
  • Encourage each PY to improve their communications skills, particularly the use of the English Language.
  • Share with ex-PYS and refer to them any problems.  Don't be hesitating to come to them for any advice.
  • Participate actively in the pre-departure training.
