Yes, Bob Carter is sick and in the hospital--Nick said it has something to do with his dad's colon, but they are unsure of what it is exactly. Nick has postponed some of his upcoming appearances to be with his dad. Please keep the Carter family in your prayers.

Source: Chika from the MFC message boards
The newest issue of the Japanese magazine, In Rock, published new pictures of BSB in the studio over Easter weekend at the end of March. Kevin, AJ, and Howie were in the studio preparing for their new, currently untitled album. Brian and Nick were not there due to prior commitments. Nick was in England with Aaron at the time.
According to the article, BSB see what they are, what they can do, and how the media thinks of them. But they are still positive and have their own view for their music career.
The article also gives a quick summary of why BSB went to NK Management and left The Firm. Their contract with The Firm was only for two and a half years. It expired and they wanted to move on.

The "Drowning" video has been put on hold. When the Backstreet Boys saw the final cut they didn't like certain parts. While on tour on the west coast they found time in between concerts to reshoot sections of the video. It is due to air on TRL near the end of October.

Attention Backstreet Fans, this is a review of the BSB concert on October 15 in San Jose. I say we right back to this journalist who does not know what the heck he is talking about and tell him what we think about his little article. He obviously has no idea what he was writing and we need to straighten him out. This is his e-mail address if you want to give your comment, e-mail Joel Selvin at [email protected] So send it to your friends and have them write to this person.
"The Boys play fools for cash
Has-been teen idols take insincerty to new level
Tick...tick...tick... Backstreet Boys, your 15 minutes are about to expire. But that didn't stop the most totally awesome boy band of 1999 from dropping by for one last big Bay Area payday Monday at the Compaq Center in San Jose. The show was originally scheduled to take place in August (after tickets sold out in April), but it was postponed when vocalist A.J. McLean suddenly checked into drug rehab. Six months is a long time in the life of a teen pop band. He emerged with his hair newly blond - although they didn't bother to reshoot the "backstage" video sequence, effectively running that part of the idiotic show - and proclaimed proudly to the audience Monday that he had been clean and sober for 103 days "because of you." Teen pop is supposed to be dumb and insincere, but these guys have gone too far. Reciting the empy-headed, patronized stage patter must get to be embarrassing ("We wouldn't be here without our fans..."). Did the boys ever watch themselves in the cringe-worthy video sequence where they are made up like old men? Being a blackboard for fanttasies preteen girls themselves don't fully understand can't be a great job, even if it does pay well. Pasting on enormous grins and changing from one ridiculous costume to another (oversize white suits, electric blue choral robes, torn muscle T's) with virtually every number, the Boys went through their paces with a degree of relish lesser morals would have found impossible. Despite their name, the fellows work clean. They played with little stuffed animals that were tossed onstage and, despite a few tattoos, generally came off as kindly older brothers, safe and nonthreatening. With top-price tickets going for a formible $12, the two-hour show could have offered a little more bang for the buck in the way of special effects. After an opening fireworks-and-smoke extravaganza, they quickly settled down into their hit "Larger Than Life." The Boys and their eight dancers disappeared in and emerged out of holes on the banana-shaped stage all night long. At one point, walking across a steel bridge lowered from the rafters that stretched across the entire arena floor during the ballad "Time," a couple of Boys were ambushed by fans with cans of Silly String. Husky, blond Nick Carter and McLean, with his receding hair-line, may appear unlikely teen heartthrobs, but these two were definitly the focus of the fans' attention. Brian Littrell, with his smug smiles, may have finished close behind, but poor Howie Dorough and Kevin Richardson were riding in the backseat all the way. The music was pointless, banal, generic. The preformances were unremarkable, more athletic dancing than strong singing. Music is beside the point. The Backstreet Boys' connection with their audience is based on cynical manipulation of sentiment, and young girls are an easy target. There is no cultural freight on board, regardless of stabs at relevance like the ecology video that accompanied "The Answer To Our Lives." There is no greater meaning, no richer depths, just puerile entertainment for young teens, and not that very good at all."

According to Business Wire news, the Backstreet Boys continued with their concert tour as scheduled, because President Bush said he wanted people to get back to a state for normalcy. But because of the terrible tragedy in the US the Backstreet Boys, along with many other groups, have decided to donate a portion of the ticket sales to a new fund being set up by communications giant Clear Channel. The approximate donation from the Toronto concert on Sept. 11 could be at least $10,000. For the entire aritcle click here.

Due to a huge rain storm in the Houston area, a flash flood warning had been put into effect. This same rain and flash flooding caused the Backstreet Boys to lose one of their 4 18-wheelers used to transport equipment. The truck apparently hydroplaned,  jackknifed, and then slid into the center concrete median...This shut the highway down in both directions. Fortunately no one was injured. This particular truck was carrying lighting and sound equipment.

Source: ABCnews.com
Denise McLean, mother of Backstreet Boy AJ McLean, was recently on 20/20 to talk about the condition of her son. On July 9th BSB made the announcement that AJ would be entering rehab for depression and alcoholism.  What most fans wanted to know was the truth about what put AJ in rehab.
Denise put it like this: Alex was her son--a person who had a heart of gold, who loved his family and his puppies. AJ was the Backstreet Boy--a person who loved to perform, who made girls go crazy, the one who got the tatoos and colored his hair. AJ was a secure person in his dance steps, he knew all the songs. Alex was a very insecure person. AJ had told his mother he hadn't felt like Alex since he was 6 years old.
(MY OPINION) The way I see it, things started when AJ's dad left the family when he was 4. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure he had a good family life. Later at age 20, AJ finds his dad, but his dad seems to be only interested in him cuz he's a Backstreet Boy. At age 23 AJ's grandmother dies. He was very close with her. She practically raised him! (Remember that's what got him started on McDonald's.) He was never given the right amount of time to grieve. He never had the mechanisms inside to grieve properly. I think this is what Denise McLean was trying to say. You may disagree with this, but this is the way I see it. As we all know, right now AJ is in transitional care. He is learning how to cope with all of this stuff that's going on. I wish AJ all the best and hope he gets well very soon. I SUPPORT AJ!!!!!

As most of America and the world are aware of, AJ has checked himself into rehab for depression and alcoholism. Most ppl believe this is due to the loss of AJ's grandmother, to whom he was VERY close.
So once again BSB fans are being called upon to stop rumors and be supportive during AJ's hard times. Just like fans were very supportive during Brian's surgery 3 years ago, it's time to stand up for AJ. Please wear a Black/Blue ribbon to show ur support. It's very easy to make (these directions come from BSB-OOST-Tastemakers:
Take blue ribbon 1/4" wide and black ribbon 3/8" wide. Cut the blue ribbon just a bit shorter than the black and place it on top of the black. Secure it with fabric glue and add a small brass safety pin to attach it to your clothing, purse, shoe, or other place. You can modify it slightly and wear it in your hair, put it in or on your car...be creative and get noticed!

Littrell Donates to Sheriff's Dept.

CANTON, Ga. (AP) - Brian Littrell of the Backstreet Boys (news - web sites) was so grateful that Cherokee County deputies recovered his two Chihuahuas that he donated $10,000 to the Sheriff's Department to buy new bulletproof vests.

``Out of the blue, we received a check from Brian Littrell, who lives in Cherokee County,'' said Sheriff Roger Garrison, who showed off the new vests Wednesday. ``The $10,000 enabled us to buy 30 vests.''

The new vests will allow Garrison to replace outdated ones.

Littrell's missing pets, Tyke and Litty, were taken from his home last July.

Deputy Donald Evans, who recovered one of the dogs, was excited about getting the new vests.

``It was great that he was able to do that for us,'' Evans said. ``We would have helped anyone in that situation.''

Backstreet Boy gets boat stuck
Date: June 2, 2001
Source: azcentral.com
Knight Ridder Newspapers
Nick Carter melts teens' hearts as a crooner with the Backstreet Boys. But it looks as though he could use a few pointers when it comes to cruising the seas.
Carter, 21, ran his luxury cabin cruiser aground near the Seven Mile Bridge in Marathon, Fla., on Tuesday - and it was still stuck there Friday.
Carter, who owns a home in Marathon, was piloting the 45-foot SeaRay boat 'N Control' from the Atlantic Ocean to Florida Bay when it struck a shallow seagrass bed on the bay side at the east end of the bridge, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
Carter told authorities that he wasn't familiar with the area and went on the wrong side of the channel marker. He shut the boat's engine down immediately and was taken ashore.
His father, Bob Carter, attempted to assist salvors Thursday in motoring the vessel off the flat, but they were advised by marine authorities to wait for a higher tide in order to prevent further damage to the seagrass, which already had sustained minimal injury, said commission spokesman Steve Acton.
arine biologists from the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary will assess the area to determine what civil fines Carter, who could not be reached for comment, will face for the grounding.
The Backstreet Boys performed last week before hordes of screaming teen-agers on Duval Street in Key West, Fla., for MTV's "Summer in the Keys."
