Chapter 1

Okay, I admit it. When I was given my attendance list of the students I would begin teaching the following fall and saw the boys name, I cringed. Not that I didn't like the poor thing, I didn't know him. I had overheard a few teachers that had him in their class before talk of him a few times, how incredibly bright he was, and how he got teased from time to time. It wasn't to much the thought of teaching him I made the face about, but more so of knowing, a little too well, who his father was.

His father........ thats another story within itself. Everybody knew his father was none other than Brian Littrell and his mother was the one and only soap actress Leigh Anne Wallace.

It seemed as though once the Backstreet Boys let go of their long time 'friends' Johnny and Donna Wright and went to The Firm, they let their individuality and new found freedom go a little to their heads and out of control. It went from 'they have girlfriends' to 'so-an-so got another tatoo' to 'this one got this girl pregnant' to 'this ones getting married'.

The one getting married, of course, was Brian. Surprisingly to many, it wasn't A.J. who became the unwed father, it was Nick. And the poor girl left no stone unturned for her everlasting quest for media attention about them and, as of the time, unborn child.

To me, that's what broke them up, the excessive negative media attention. The younger fans didnt quite set well with the fact that the Boys actually had a private life and were slowly accessing to it more than the spotlight life as time went by. As the fan numbers slowly dissolved, the attention did not, however. It just turned from good to worse by every report.

It wasn't a bitter end for the Boys part, with Brian's marriage and Nick's child being a newborn then, not to mention the others getting into serious relationships and eyeing other things they wanted to do, and just plain getting tired of the fast paced and hectic schedule, they mutually decided to call it quits for the time being. The decision was maybe a little predictable now as I look back at the time, but it still was a little upsetting to many of the fans. They finished off the album they had just released and then began their 'break', as they liked to call it. The negativity died somewhat over the next couple of years, only hearing of them when marriage and business engagements came their way.

Of course, we all heard about the divorce. After only 3 and a half years of enjoying the blissfulness of married life, Brian and Leigh Anne called it quits. The sad part of the whole situation was, they didnt just share those 3 and a half years, but they also shared a child, too. And that child, Matthew Christopher, was the owner of the hand that was placed into mine as we walked down the halls of Sunnydale Elementary in the direction of my classroom for my Parent/Teacher conference I had scheduled with this child...... and his father.
