Chapter 38

Kristy stepped out of the guestroom, glanced down the quiet hallway, and tiptoed downstairs. It was the first day of Kevins "vacation" and she wanted to treat him to a special breakfast for a change. Since coming to visit, every morning Kristy had woken up to find Kevin in the kitchen fixing their breakfast. She normally wasnt much of a breakfast person, but it was a wonderful way to start each day and had soon become a welcomed ritual.

While she certainly wasnt going to protest the current distribution of house work, she did want to do something for Kevin to show him how much she appreciated and loved him. Love. Kristy smiled to herself as she entered the spacious kitchen and readied the coffee maker. It was pointless to fight her feelings for Kevin anymore. She was in love with him as much as he was with her. The last few days had been wonderful and Kristy could feel them growing closer and closer.

The night before, at the Boys last concert, Kristy and Leighanne had stood in the barricaded area around the stage with the Boys security team something Kevin insisted that she was never without. While Kevin hadnt officially announced her "status" as one of the girlfriends, before the concert several young girls had approached Leighanne to have their pictures taken with her. Leighanne had included Kristy, sparking questions from the fans.

"I saw you at the Orlando concert," one girl had said to Kristy. "You were walking around with Kevins bodyguard." At the mention of his name, the large man had stepped closer to Kristy in a protective gesture.

"I think Ive seen some pictures of you from other concerts, too," another girl added, looking over Kristy with a critical eye. "You seem to be around a lot lately."

Kristy had glanced at Leighanne for support. She knew Kevin wanted to "protect" her and keep her somewhat sheltered from the fans, and she honestly wasnt in any hurry to become "a girlfriend" in the publics eyes. Kristy had smiled at the girls and shrugged slightly, ready to claim "friendship" with the Boys and their girlfriends, but didnt get the chance when Leighanne interjected, "Kristy is part of the BSB family... and shes going to be around for a long time."

Kristy paused in the kitchen, recalling Leighannes words. She certainly hoped she was right. She was a little concerned that her presence at the concerts, combined with Leighannes comments, would draw attention to her, but she would deal with that as it came. She only hoped Kevin could deal with it too.

She was in the process of setting the table when Kevin entered the kitchen, dressed only in boxers and a wifebeater. Kristy felt her pulse speed up at the sight of him. No matter how often she saw him, he always had the same effect on her... especially dressed like that.

Kevin smiled lazily at her and Kristy felt her stomach do a little flip-flop as his gaze roamed over her in her blue silk boxers and camisole-top pajamas. "Damn," he muttered as he made his way to her.

Kristy turned back to setting the table, although she was completely aware of Kevins presence as he crossed the room. She knew he was close as she arranged a napkin on each of their plates and she could practically feel his eyes on her as she leaned over the table to readjust the silverware of the far setting. She straightened and felt Kevins warm breath on her neck, followed immediately by his soft lips brushing gently over the skin below her ear. His hands came to rest on her arms, caressing them leisurely while his mouth continued its thorough exploration of her neck. Kristy leaned back against him, her eyes closed and her breathing becoming shallower.

Kevin wrapped his arms around Kristy and pulled her even closer to him, never abandoning his task. He continued to lavish attention on her neck, knowing it was her favorite place to be kissed. He alternated feather-light kisses with deeper ones, occasionally nipping her soft skin lightly with his teeth. Kevin knew what he was doing to Kristy he could feel her trembling in his arms. He would also admit that he was just as effected... his breathing sounded ragged to his own ears.

Kristy didnt know how much longer she could hold on... her legs were getting weaker with each successive kiss. She held onto Kevins hands around her middle with one of her own while the other was buried in Kevins hair, guiding his mouth to the best places. Kevin chuckled lightly as he removed her hand and threaded his fingers through hers, holding both hands at her sides. He moved his lips upward from the crook of her neck towards her ear, taking his time and savoring the taste of every inch of her skin. He brushed his mouth across the earlobe, then dipped his tongue into her ear. He heard her whimper and felt her squeeze his hands as he continued the deep, rhythmic kissing.

Kristy turned in his arms, unwilling to be passive any longer. She met his lips with her own, slipping her tongue into his mouth as he had done to her ear. Kevin groaned and pulled her even closer, lifting her up slightly and supporting her with one arm wrapped tightly around her back. His free hand caressed her skin, cupping the side of her face and turning her head slightly as he took control of the passionate kiss.

Kristy sighed as she let herself get lost in the kiss. She had always dreamt of finding someone who she could love and desire as much as she did Kevin. Sometimes she couldnt believe it had happened. She sighed again as Kevin held her against the length of him and continued kissing her, "Kevin."

At the sound of his name whispered breathlessly against his lips, Kevin could barely contain his desire for Kristy yet knew he had to. He wanted nothing more than to scoop her into his arms and take her upstairs to make love to her... except maybe to forget the trip upstairs and make love to her right on the floor of his kitchen... or maybe on top of the dining room table... or both. Kevin fought for control as he pulled away, ending the intoxicating kiss. "Kris," he started, his voice sounding strained even to himself, "We have to stop. Its getting harder and harder to take things slowly."

Kristy tried to regulate her breathing and nodded. The last few days had brought her and Kevin continually closer, but they still werent ready for that big of a step. Now that the tour was over for a few months, they could spend some time focusing on just them. Kristy knew the distance would make it more difficult, but at least theyd both be stationary. She gazed into Kevins eyes and could still see the passion burning in their depths. She could feel herself being drawn to him again, but knew that would only make things more difficult, so she forced herself to step back, take a deep breath, and make her way across the kitchen. "So, umm..." She closed her eyes for a second, praying for composure before she spoke again. "I made breakfast... for your first day of vacation."

Kevin remained standing, holding her gaze as his body still remembered every detail of their kisses. "Good, Im very hungry."

Kristy swallowed slightly, catching the obvious double meaning in Kevins deep voice. She brought a tray of waffles and fresh fruit over to the table and set them down, feeling Kevins eyes on her the entire time. She began to sit down, but then suddenly stood up. "Oh! I forgot the syrup. Want anything else?" she asked over her shoulder as she crossed the room.

Kevin followed her with his eyes, admiring how her blond hair brushed her shoulders and the way the silk of her pajamas moved over her curves with each motion. Only you, he thought as he watched her peer into the cupboard. Kristy turned with three items in her hands. In addition to the syrup shed set out for, she had found powdered sugar and unknowingly torturing Kevin whipped cream. Kevin silently asked God for the strength and discipline to get through the meal without using the latter item in the ways going through his mind at the moment. Certainly he was being punished for every evil thing hed ever done... or would ever do. Yet he was willing to pay for his sins, knowing that in the end loving Kristy would be the closest he would come to heaven on earth.

Kevin stood on the bottom of the stairway, waiting for Kristy to join him. He had planned this day since before she'd even arrived, knowing that he wanted his first day of "vacation" to be representative of the rest of their time together. Kristy stepped out of her room and started down the stairs. "Is this okay for whatever it is that we're doing today?" she asked, gesturing to her pale blue sundress and also hoping for a hint about what Kevin had planned.

Kevin nodded, his eyes traveling down from her smiling face to assess the outfit in question. The light color both brought out her eyes and set off her tan. The dress was on the more casual side, which was actually perfect for their destination - yet also nice enough for one part of the day. "It's perfect just like you."

Kristy reached the bottom step and paused in front of her boyfriend, looking him directly in the eye. She rolled her eyes and giggled. "Flatterer." Kevin chuckled in response as he took her hand, kissing it lightly.

"I try." He continued to hold her hand and together they walked towards the front door. "So are you ready to go?"

Kristy glanced sideways, casually asking, "Where are we headed again?"

Kevin simply shook his head and looked at her with an amused look on his face. "Uh-uh. You're just going to have to wait and see. In fact" He reached into the pocket of his khaki cargo pants and withdrew a tie and held it up before his girlfriend. "Maybe I'll need this after all."

Kristy shook her head, stepping back from Kevin, then paused as a smile lit up her pretty face. "A tie as a makeshift blindfold? I know that trick!" She smiled brighter as Kevin grinned at her. "We're going to the Magic Kingdom!"

Kevin chuckled. Not only was Kristy's enthusiasm about the Disney themepark contagious, but her ability to read him and know what he had planned for them warmed his heart. Kristy released Kevin's hand and moved to hug him, touched by his actions and obvious attention to detail in his "courtship". "Are you sure you want to do this? I mean, just because it's in the story doesn't mean we have to" she trailed off, glancing up at Kevin's face.

He smiled then brushed his lips over her forehead. "Yes, I want to. You don't think I'm going to pass up a chance to reenact the wishing well scene, do you?"

Kristy giggled and leaned forward to kiss him. "I think we may need some practice, don't you." She pressed her lips against his, kissing him leisurely.

Kevin had to take a deep breath as the kiss ended. The things she could do to him with just a little kiss. He'd never felt this way about anyone before and was acutely aware of how intense his love for her was. He gazed into Kristy's eyes and caressed her cheek. "I love you," he whispered, holding her eyes with his.

Kristy's eyes warmed as she returned his gaze and proclamation. "I love you, too so very much." Kevin pulled her into his arms and held her against him, knowing they were going to make it.

Their day was everything Kristy could've dreamed of - and more. Kevin had gotten into the spirit of Disney rather easily - especially considering his past jobs there - and kept Kristy smiling with his willingness to try anything. They made their way through the different lands, although they decided to wait until later in the evening before visiting Fantasyland - partly because Kristy thought it held an extra magical flavor at night, and partly because they wanted to spare Kevin being attacked by a throng of children.

Kristy leaned against Kevin while they waited in line for Splash Mountain. They were the picture of a happy couple with his arms wrapped around her waist and chin resting on top of her head. They both recognized how well they fit together without either saying anything.

They passed their time in line - while taking in the "full Disney experience" rather than using Kevin's status to get VIP treatment - sharing stories of their past Disney trips and family vacations. Kristy was trying to contain her laughter as Kevin recalled one early family road trip where his two older brothers convinced him that they were being followed and had him act as "lookout" in the back of the family's station wagon for three entire states. To this day, Kevin's brothers would occasionally hum the theme song to Mission Impossible when they wanted to keep him in his place.

Kristy shared stories of Sunday drives to historical Oregon sites - arranged by her ex-teacher mother as a way to combine family-time and learning. The family had a running joke that involved a painful trip to a "western fort" and an appropriately discarded box of Milk Duds in the cellar/cell. Ever since, Kristy and her siblings would roll their eyes and mumble "milk dud" whenever their mom suggested something in Oregon that sounded interesting to visit.

By early evening, they had hit every ride at least once and had revisited their favorites a couple of times. Kristy accepted Kevin's challenge for a rematch at Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin... and tried not to rub it in too much when she outscored him once again. As her reward, Kevin promised her a lithograph from one of the art stores on Main Street U.S.A. - although he'd planned on buying one anyway.

The attractive couple strolled through the other "guests", heading towards the focal piece of park - Cinderella's Castle. They were laughing as Kevin told a story of one of the group's early performances at the park when Kristy passed a group of familiar faces.

"Butler?" "Kris?" Kristy paused, her face clearly reflecting her surprise. Before her was a group of her friends and colleagues from Oregon.

"What are you guys doing here?" Kristy asked the group of two guys and two girls as they exchanged hugs and greetings while Kevin looked on.

"Pharmacy... Meeting... Midyears..." a grinning red-head answered sarcastically.

Kristy glanced at Kevin, realizing for the first time that the time-frame of her current trip to Orlando matched the fictional one in "Once". Only this time she was already with him, rather than meeting him there. Her eyes sparkled with amuzement as she looked at the people around her.

"Yeah, I guess it is about that time. Guys, I'd like you to meet someone... this is my boyfriend, Kevin." At the word "boyfriend" her four friends turned in surprise to the man beside her, really noticing him for the first time. "Kev, this is Chris, Mike, Heather, and Jessica."

"Hi." Kevin exchanged handshakes with Kristy's friends. "It's nice to meet you all... I feel like I already know you." Kristy tried to send him a squelching look, but ended up laughing and simply shaking her head as Kevin grinned and winked at her.

"Was she raving about me again?" Chris asked with a broad grin. "Butler, you really need to control yourself. Kevin might get jealous if you keep talking about me all the time." Kristy burst into giggles as she glance from her friend to the gorgeous man beside her, holding her hand.

"Uh-huh," Jessica deadpanned while eyeing Kevin appreciatively. "That's gonna happen."

They continued talking for awhile longer, agreeing to meet up later in the week for an evening at Pleasure Island. Kevin caught Kristy's eyes and suggested they start out at the Disney/MGM Sudios to watch "Fantasmic!" first, then hit the clubs. The others agreed, not noticing the sparkle in both Kristy and Kevin's eyes.

"Please tell me you didn't plan that," Kristy giggled as she and Kevin left her friends and headed towards the castle.

"Even I'm not that good. I think we have Someone on our side, helping us out here," Kevin said, glancing upwards. Kristy squeezed his hand and smiled warmly, nodding in agreement.

They approached the castle from the side, stopping by the Wishing Well first - as they both knew they would. Kristy waited patiently while Kevin withdrew a penny for her to toss into the well, then stepped up to the special landmark. She glanced at him before closing her eyes and tossing the copper coin into the water. 'I wish we could stay like this' was Kristy's silent request.

Upon opening her eyes, Kevin handed her a small manilla envelope. Kristy smiled up at him and slid a manicured nail under the seal, then withdrew a gift certificate to her favorite restaraunt in Portland. "Thank you." She leaned forward to kiss Kevin softly, slightly disappointed that this time her wish wouldn't come true.

Kevin kissed her back before replying, "There's more." She reached deeper into the envelope and this time pulled out a pair of first class plane tickets... to Oregon. She raised questioning eyes to Kevin, but he only smiled and nodded to the envelope once again. She could feel something wedged into the far corner, but couldn't get it out with her hand. Determined, she tipped the envelope and shook it purposefully until a shiny object fell into the palm of her hand.

Kristy picked up the item and held it in front of her face. "Please explain." It wasn't a request. It was a command - and Kevin knew it.

He smiled and pulled her into his arms, kissing her between phrases. "That is the key... to the front door... of my place... in Portland."

Kristy pulled back from what was becoming a sensual kiss as the reality of Kevin's words hit her. "Place in Portland?" Her eyes widened as Kevin caressed the side of her face and kissed the tip of her nose. "How...? When...?" Kevin brushed a small tear that escaped from the corner of her eye. "Why?"

"I've been working on the details for awhile," Kevin started, still holding Kristy close to him and caressing her face, "Denise helped me with some of it while we were finishing up the tour. I am now the proud owner of a lovely penthouse in downtown Portland - and I'll be spending most of my time off from the tour there... with you."

Kristy could barely believe her ears. "But why?"

Kevin smiled affectionately at his girlfriend. "Maybe you didn't hear that last part. I'll try again... because I'll be with YOU."

Kristy wrapped her arms around him and hugged him tightly. "You did it again." She smiled at the feeling of peace and happiness that filled her, because she knew in her heart that she loved and trusted him completely. "You always make my wishes come true."
