Chapter 15

Kristy sat with Kevin, curled up in her oversized chair back at her house and sighed with contentment as the opening credits rolled. "I love this movie," she said as the room filled with music from "Sleepless In Seattle."

Kevin wrapped his arms around Kristy and breathed in the light scent of her perfume and shampoo. "You smell so good," he murmured in her ear. "Angel, right?" he asked, referring to the unique scent she wore. Kristy nodded, feeling a small thrill that he had paid such close attention to her story. "Appropriate." She smiled and leaned her head back against his shoulder, relaxing completely in his arms.

The day had been wonderful. They'd ended up staying down at Kristy and Erin's parents for much longer than they'd planned on and decided to forgo the coast entirely. Mark had continued to befriend the guys, as Kristy knew he would since he had something in common with each of the guys. Physically he resembled Nick somewhat with his height, blond hair, and baby-faced good looks. He and AJ were closest in age, and Mark could see he and his other sister were developing some sort of friendship. Personality wise, Mark had a wicked sense of humor and he and Brian pretty much kept everyone laughing all day. He also had a very sensitive side like Howie, and - as Kevin could attest to - his family was extremely important to him. That episode on the basketball court had actually impressed Kevin very much. He and Mark had come to an understanding, and after that, treated each other with admiration and respect.

Kevin smiled to himself as he thought back on the afternoon with Kristy's family. He had thoroughly enjoyed himself, and knew the other guys had too. The very fact that Nick was in favor of staying rather than going to the beach spoke for itself. An impromptu Bar-B-Q was organized, with Mark, Brian and Nick tending to the grill and good naturedly bickering over how to properly cook the different items. Kristy and Erin were sent to the store for additional food items and supplies, dragging Kevin and AJ along for moral support... and to carry the groceries. Kristy's mom could've put Martha Stewart to shame as she "threw together" an incredible meal and tended to every need or want of her family and their guests.

Kristy's dad had talked sports with the guys, and Kristy knew Kevin was making huge points with her father as they exchanged stories of their "glory years". Kristy had been less thrilled when she heard the topic of conversation turn to politics and had quickly tried to end that discussion. Whether they were doing it to earn points or because deep down, they really were a fairly old-fashioned group of guys, none of them challenged her father's sometimes-conservative views.

The Boys had earned major bonus points with Kristy's mom when they sang "The Perfect Fan" for her. Kevin believed what Kristy and Erin had said about their mom being protective of her children, simply because her love for them was so evident. Kevin had gotten a little teary-eyed himself as he watched Kristy and Erin hug their mom, tears falling down all of their cheeks. Mark had hugged his mom too, then passed out Kleenex to the three crying, laughing women with a shake of his head, like it was something he was obviously used to doing.

Kevin recalled the section of "Once Upon a Time" when Kristy talked about how much her parents loved each other and how she wished for that kind of love someday. While Kristy had been giving him a tour of her parents' house, he'd looked over the many family portraits and pictures of other relatives. "Who's this?" Kevin had asked, stopping on their way up the stairs to see Kristy's old room.

Kristy had smiled, her eyes filling with such love and happiness that Kevin had known the answer before she even spoke. "Mom and Dad."

"What a wonderful picture," Kevin had commented as he looked at the soft black and white photo. It was a picture of Kristy's parents on their wedding day, looking into each other's eyes and so in love you could feel it coming from the picture. "Your mom is beautiful."

"Dad wasn't too shabby either," Kristy chuckled, looking at the attractive couple in the picture on the wall next to wedding photos of her grandparents and great-grandparents.

"Can I ask you something?" Kevin asked, looking from her parents' picture to her. Kristy nodded. "How old was your mom when she had you?"

Kristy thought for a moment before answering, "Almost 24."

Kevin did some quick math in his head and shook his head in disbelief. "No way! She doesn't look it." From his interaction with Kristy's mom, he couldn't believe the youthful appearing and acting woman was old enough to have a 26-year-old daughter.

"Kristy, don't you ever let this one go!" Kristy and Kevin started laughing as her mom rounded the corner from the kitchen. "You," she said to Kevin, "Are always welcome in my home."

Kristy giggled and kissed Kevin softly as her mom returned back to the other room. "Kiss up!" she teased.

Remember, I was warned I want to stay on her good side!

Kristy snuggled against Kevins chest as the final credits rolled. She looked up and searched his face. Whats wrong? Kevin asked, seeing the question in her eyes.

Kristy shrugged. Its just... is this too boring for you?

Kevins eyes widened. What?! Kristy... he sighed.

I mean... I like to go out and go clubbing and all, she clarified. But I also enjoy just staying in... Im afraid I dont lead a very exciting life.

He brushed a strand of golden blond hair off her forehead. Kristy, I had a great time today with your family... we all kinda miss being part of that day to day. And Im having even a better time just holding you in my arms tonight. How could he make her understand what he himself was having difficulty comprehending? He caressed the side of her face and looked deeply into her spectacular blue-green eyes. If given the choice between going to a great club for a fantastic night of dancing and partying or spending a quiet evening at home with you... Id chose you. He kissed her lips softly. Id always choose you.

Kristy kissed him back, her heart pounding in her chest. She was extremely happy, but also a little scared of how fast things were going. Everything seemed so right, she didnt want anything to disrupt what was happening between them. Oh Kevin, she whispered and averted her gaze. I guess I was just worried because in the story we were always going out, and I read about you going out and having such a different life than mine... She bit her lip in a nervous gesture. Im rambling arent I?

Kevin chuckled softly and tipped her chin up to look into her eyes. First, you are not rambling. Second, you shouldnt believe everything you read... or write! Kristy smiled and nodded as Kevin laughed seductively. And as I recall, we didnt go out EVERY night in your story! Kristys thoughts went straight to the chapter after Kevins housewarming party. Kevin read her thoughts and drew her lips to his for a leisurely kiss.

He held her close, her head resting on his shoulder. I cant promise this is going to be easy Kris...

She looked up at him and smiled sweetly as she finished his thought, Yeah, but then again, nothing truly worthwhile ever is.
