Chapter 11 - It's Gotta Be You

I watched him from a distance, I still couldn't believe it was him... but he sounded the same, the sound of his voice actually gave me goosebumps... so it just HAD to be him!
He sat there on one of the couches talking to that tall blonde guy, Ellen had told me that his name was Nick, and in the meantime he was twirling the end of his left sleeve with his fingertips...
I couldn't stop watching him... I was in deep thought about the conversations we had in that building when he suddenly looked up and flashed a little smile at me. I felt caught staring and couldn't help but blush. Thank god he didn't see that because he was already continuing his talk to the guy sitting next to him and just when I was about to leave the room Ellen came in and asked me were I had been, she had been looking for me all over the place.
I told her that I was just hanging around a bit and she caught me staring at A.J. She asked if I'd like to meet him but I shook my head and told her some stupid lie about me being uncomfortable around here and that I needed some fresh air... She let me go and soon I was cursing myself for not talking to him...

"Hey Ellen, where did your friend go?" Howie came walking in the room sipping his tea & honey and Ellen shrugged, "She wasn't feeling too well, so she went outside for some fresh air... she'll be fine..." she said and sat beside Brian who was talking to Kevin about sending their family one of the homevideos they were making...
"Oh... okay..." he mumbled partially to himself and looked out of the window, thanking God it was mirror glass so they couldn't see him. He liked the attention... but sometimes it was nice not to hear girls scream at them... and them not even noticing him seemed even better... it made him feel like a normal guy again, which they all hadn't felt in a very long time...
"D.?"
Howie looked up at me I was standing beside him now and we exchanged a smile.
"Quiet... nice..." I mumbled and forgot for a moment that I had been wanting to ask Howie if he wanted to come clubbing with me tonight.
"Any luck at finding her?" Howie asked carefully, we hadn't talked about it in a while but Howie probably felt that being in Holland, her motherland, made it extra hard on me. "No... none... I'm even starting to think that she doesn't want to be found."

Ellen overheard the conversation and nudged Bri' softly between the ribs. "What's wrong with A.J.?" She knew it wasn't really her business but he sounded so sad that she just had to know what was going on with him.
Brian quietly started to tell her what had happened to A.J. a few months back and what he was trying to do now...
Ellen's mouth fell open. "Is the girls name Claudia perchance?" she asked him and Brian looked surprised now as well.
"Yeah, do you know her?!" he said softly not trying to get A.J.'s hopes up over nothing.
"That's the girl I brought with me, she just went outside to get some air... maybe you should send A.J. out after her..."
Brian smiled and Kevin, who had been quiet ever since Ellen had told Brian about her friend, finally spoke up. "No, don't, maybe you should talk to your friend about this first... maybe this is something we have to ease them into carefully... I mean, A.J. has been looking for this girl for such a long time now that maybe the image he has of her in his mind has changed... you know what I mean... when you look out for something for so long things can be very... well uhm, he could be heading for fall, they both could be... And what about Karen...?!" Kevin said to his cousin.
"Who's she?" Ellen asked
Bri' who suddenly had become very quiet. "A.J.'s girlfriend..."
