Destiny Is Everything Chapter 17 - Fate's Stamp of Approval Two weeks passed by. Danielle sat on her couch watching the six o'clock news after a seemingly endless day of work. The doorbell rang and Danielle got up to answer it. When she opened the door, all she could do was squeal excitedly. It was Brian himself standing there in the doorway, looking more handsome and better than ever. Danielle leaped into his open arms. "Omigosh!!! I cannot believe this! Brian, when?? How? Your tour doesn't stop again in Virginia. Don't tell me you've left the other guys to fend for themselves!" Danielle blurted, surprised. Brian laughed heartily. "No. I didn't desert 'em. We added a few additional dates around here. Two in Virginia. I had to come here and surprise you. I've missed you sooo much!" Brian hugged her tightly and then pulled away slightly so he could kiss her. "I've got a surprise for you," Brian said in a playfully mysterious tone. That was all that was needed to provoke her curiosity. "What? Wasn't this it?...Well, it doesn't matter. All I need is you," Danielle said contentedly as she kissed Brian for a long time. Brian didn't say anything except grin. He led her to his Jeep. They both got in and headed in the direction of the ocean. "Wait here," Brian instructed her as he went to the backseat of the Jeep. He reached under the seat to get a huge bouquet of red roses. There were two dozen red roses, complete with baby's breath. One white rose stood out in the center of the bouquet. He shut the rear door and went over to take Danielle by her hand. She gasped when she saw the roses. He led her down to the sandy shore and gave the flowers to Danielle. "Thank you, Bri. This is incredible. Everything, I mean. But most of all, the way you showed up..." Danielle kissed him lightly on the cheek. "Wait, that's not it. There's more," Brian said. Puzzled, Danielle could only look to see what he meant. She saw as Brian knelt down on one knee and took out a small ring box. "Nearly half a year ago, when I did this, it was way too soon...but now, no matter what, I know I'm ready. Everyday spent without you beside me makes me realize all the more how much I love you. These past five months, I've been walking around in a daze not knowing what to do. But when you're there, it's like everything is fine again. It's as if the sun shines brighter and the grass smells sweeter when you're around. I'M whole again when you're around. So...Danielle, will you marry me?" Brian asked calmly. "Yes," came her instant answer. Brian whooped excitedly. Danielle laughed and wrapped her arms around his neck, letting the flowers fall with a gentle thud on the sand. When Brian regained his composure, he slipped the ring on the fourth finger of her left hand. He kissed her teary face. This time, they both knew it was tears of happiness that were rapidly rolling down her cheeks. They sat down, Brian cradling Danielle in his warm arms. "Now we won't ever be separated," Brian whispered into her ear, seemingly reading her mind. She nodded in agreement. For the next hour, he serenaded her with heart-stopping love songs. Among them were Aerosmith's I Don't Want to Miss a Thing, K-Ci & JoJo's All My Life, and Edwin McCain's I'll Be. They got up and left the beach arm-in-arm, never once looking back--but only ahead. Ahead to their future together and to all the joys-and growing pains-that husband and wife experience. |
