Dance Class Chapter 6 Carson awoke to the sunlight shining through her living room window. She had slept clear through the night. "Wow" she thought, exactly how tired was she? She got up off the couch and went to the kitchen. She looked at the clock on the microwave and it read 8:30, so that meant she had plenty of time to spare before she had to go to the dance studio for her first class. Which reminded her, today she had the boys' class. She wasnt as nervous as she had been at first which was strange, but not really. Why should she be nervous? All she had to do was watch them and if they looked like they needed some polishing then thats where she came in,and if they got bored she had combinations written out, it was no biggie.Carson took a shower and got dressed in her typical and yet overworn dance attire. Black Capezio running pants, black sports bra.....no scratch that she thought not conservative enough for a room full of guys, so she exchanged it for a leotard, and spagetti strapped shirt, and Adidas shoes. She still had more than enough time to get to the studio so she plopped onto her couch and decided to veg out and watch daytime tv untill 12:00, her first class of the day. She had only been sitting about half an hour until the phone rang. She picked it up and it was Lisa. " Carson, I have to leave early today like around 1:15 for a doctors appointment so I cancled that class so you wouldn't have to sacrafice your free hour, and you'll have the studio to yourself for a while, but I'll be back for my 3:00 class and so on." "Allrighty,"Carson said," No problem, hey dont forget to leave me some cd's today I'm gonna need a wide variety." "Ok cool,I have a class so I'll have to let you go, besides you'll be here in an hour anyway so I'll see ya then ok?" she said. " Sure I'll see ya then bye" Carson said then hung up. She decided to leave early because she was getting bored plus the weekend traffic was terrible. She quickly fed her dog and cat and went out the door. As she walked out to her car she noticed a storm coming in from the coast, which was a good sign, Florida needed rain in the worst way. Traffic wasn't that bad till she hit Route 121 which is where it really got bad. Tourists were really pouring in. She got to the dance studio about 10 minutes late regardless that she had left early. She began her first class as usual but was interrupted about halfway through by Lisa. " Hey girl," she said as her head poked into the room," I've gotta go so I'll see ya later ok I left the key on the desk so don't forget that allrighty?" " Ok cool," she said, "bye". Lisa closed the door behind herself. Carson continued her class which seemed to last forever and finally she had the studio to herself for an hour and a half. Which gave her time to do what she loved...choreography. She looked through her cd's and found that she didn't have much of a collection and she noticed that Lisa hadn't left her much to choose from. She decided to try her luck with Mase (Its all she had). She spent about 20 minutes just listening to the song Lookin At Me (a bad song to dance to) before she actually thought of something that looked good. She looked around the big room and noticed how huge it looked with no one in it. She turned up the music and practiced her own ideas until she could put them together into something that was worthy enough to be called a dance. Before she knew she had a full eight counts of eight she looked up at the clock over head and saw that she had 45 minutes before the guys were supposed to be there. She practiced what she had, polishing up steps that looked sloppy and added a few more as she went along. When she finished she decided to do the whole thing full out and see what it looked like and if it was any good she'd put it on paper. She turned up the music pretty loud considering the fact that she was alone in the studio. As she danced she noticed it would look better with a group doing it, like in the music videos she had always dreamed of working with. She visualized a group of dancers doing it together in a video. That's what she wanted it to be but she was far from reaching that goal. She turned the cd back to the song she needed and was about ready to do the dance again when she heard someone sing the first line of the song. " Now what the hell is you lookin for, can't a young man get money any more?" Aj walked through the door to the backroom bouncing to the beat." Nice song, I have his cd" he said pointing to the stereo," And your dance ain't half bad either" Carson looked at him and smiled,"Oh no not YOU again.ya really think so?" "Yeah that was pretty good, have you seen Fatima? I'm on time but doesn't look like she is." He said looking around. Carson had forgotten to tell him as well as the rest of the boys that she would be subbing for a month. " Oh um remember the seminar tour that Tina went on? Well she went off on it last week and I'm her sub for a month. I forgot to tell you," she said cringing a bit but then regained herself," but hey I'm not all that bad plus all you need is touch ups right?" He gave her a weird look and then said sarcastically," You mean I'm stuck with you?" Carson was close to bitching when he said," I'm kidding, if Tina trusts ya then hell, why can't I? We don't do much in here anyway, just tell us where we suck and make us fix it. Then if we get bored teach us stuff cuz we're all pretty dumb, not really, but you get the idea right?" She gave him a puzzled reaction to his babbling but she knew the drill,"Yeah it'll be a snap." She looked around, " So where is everyone, there's five of you right?" As if they all were waiting behind the door the guys just came right on in. Howie first. "Yeah theres five" he said pointing to Aj, "One", pointed to himself,"Two" Brian walked in followed buy Nick and Kevin." Three"."Four, ooo a new person today" Nick said," and Kev makes five, where's Fatima?" Oh how nice they can count she thought.Carson looked at all of them. She had always dreamed of working with famous people but never got the chance, so she guessed this was her big chance. She just wondered what the all would think of her. Aj turned to Nick. " Fatima's on that tour thing and she left a sub," he paused," Don't worry its not like she left us a dumbass (gee thanks man) I'm sure she knows her stuff" That comment raised a soft laugh from everyone but Kevin who didn't look too happy. But Carson told herself not to give a damn because she was given an assignment and she fully intended to do it. If one of em had a problem ...Oh who was she kidding she hoped none of them had a problem with her because she didn't see herself as someone who would cause one. She knew what she was doing. She was no rookie. She had the experience all they needed to do was dance. "Well let's get started. Tina left your demos for me.My name is Carson and I'll be your sub for the next four weeks. "She heard someone say in a feminine voice("If you have any questions please don't; hesitate to ask) she payed it no attention because she was sure that it was Brian. She answered, " Oh I'm sure you won't need to. All you gotta do is tell me which you wanna do first. My job is to tell you where you need work at and make sure you fix it, and in case anyone's worried that I don't have a clue about what I'm talking about it's not like I hadn't planned for you guys, I'm not TOTALLY blonde," she said giggling a little," In fact I had to learn all of you dances too." Carson surprised herself. Where did all that come from? A surge of confidence had taken her over. Aj walked over to her. " I suggest you listen to her because if you don't she'll kick your butt" he said laughing. Carson turned to him and said sarcastically, "Ain't it the truth? So what do ya'll wanna do first? All you gotta do is turn on the music and do your thing, I just watch." They all moved towards the center of the floor. Nick turned around and said "By the way I resent the blonde comment." Carson laughed, "I'm sorry I promise to take it easy on ya," Kevin walked over to the stereo, saying nothing, and flipped through the demo tapes and put one in and joined the rest of them in the center of the floor. Carson moved away from the center and stood in the back. "Take it away guys." She said and pressed the play button on the remote to the stereo. |
