Peas and Carrots Chapter 4 "Well," Mom says, taking a seat, "why don't we try to find Nick and his little group of guy pals?" "Um, you're joking, right?" I asked. Mom's not exactly the spontaneous kind. I think the last spontaneous thing she did was get a new type of silverwear that didn't match with the old silverwear. "No, I'm not. We haven't gone on a vacation in forever, and I've got some money saved up for just such an occasion," she said, like it's not big deal at all. "Cool!" I exclaimed. "When do we leave?" "How about next Friday? I'll have to schedule a flight and make sure I can get time off from work, but I'm sure I can since no one's going on vaction anytime soon," Mom said, grinning. "I can't believe my good luck," I thought to myself, unable to control my ear to ear grin. All throughout dinner I was quiet, thinking of what I should say to him. Then it hit me. "Mom, how are we going to talk to him? They're going to be surrounded by masses of screaming fans! And how do we know where they're going to be at the time?" I asked her. "Easy," she replied. "While you and Nick would play, Jane and I became good friends. After they left, she gave me her home phone number and cell phone number," she explained to me. "Oh! Okay, that'll work out after all." As I headed up to my room, I figured I should tell all of my friends about this. I doubt they'd believe me, but oh well, it's their loss. I started singing to myself. "I'm so excited, and I just can't hide it! I'm so excited! I'm about to loose control and I think I like it!" I continuted to hum because I forgot ther rest of the words. As I entered my room, I realized how messy it had gotten from my little "treasure hunt". "I guess I'd better clean this disaster area before mom sees it. She'll freak!" I told myself, as I sat down in the middle of the mess. There's no better place to store your belongings than under the bed, I figured. Besides, the more stuff there is under there, the less room there is for goblins! As I crammed my stuff under the bed, I decided I had better climb aboard my train of thought that I was having earlier at dinner. The one where I needed to figure out what I'm going to say to my long lost buddy. I could hear Mom talking to someone , but I couldn't hear a
reply. She was either on the phone, or she was yelling at the umpire
