Sweet Dreams Chapter 14 Brian arrived in Orlando 2 days later. He immediately caught a taxi to Caroline's place. He was so excited to see his daughter and Caroline. He rang the doorbell. Caroline went to answer the door and immediately closed it when she saw Brian. How could she tell him that the baby didn't make it? He would probably hate her for the rest of her life. "Come on Caroline. Open up, please," he said in a pleading voice. "I'm truly sorry for what I said that night before I went on tour. I don't know where that came from. If I could take it all back I would. You just have to know that I love you and I would never do anything to hurt you. Please let me come in. I mean I at least have the right to see our child." A moment of silence passed and Caroline opened the door. Brian stepped inside and she hugged him, tears pouring out. "Brian, I never meant for this to happen," she cried. "What are you talking about?" "Come and sit down with me." "What, is there something wrong with the baby?" "That's what I want to talk to you about." They sat down in the love seat and Caroline held Brian's hand while she told him the news. "Brian, that night when we had the argument and you left, about 10 min later I went to go apologize before you left. I couldn't stand the fact that we were angry with each other before you left. So I was on my way to the airport when some drunk college students crashed into me. Next thing I knew I was in the hospital and doctors were shouting all around me that I was loosing a lot of blood. I had guessed that I was in labor because I felt the contractions. They tried to get me to push, but it wasn't working and it was so painful. I was still loosing blood," Caroline cried as she continued on. "So that's when they began to operate. The next day when I got up, I was so excited to see Nicole. That's when I found out that...that ... the baby didn't make it." Caroline was crying so hard by the time she finished. Brian's eyes brimmed with tears. "No," he said, crying. "No, no, no." He buried his head in Caroline's lap and cried. By 11:00 p.m. Caroline had fallen asleep. Brian stood on the balcony and watched the stars. He realized that through all they've been through, they will always be there for each other. They had both learned something from Nicole. And that's to never give up on the one you love. They would take things slower this time and try again. Brian stepped back inside and picked Caroline up off the sofa. He carried her inside her room and laid her in the bed gently. He kissed her forehead then slid in next to her, and wrapped his arms around her. "Sweet Dreams," he whispered, before falling asleep.~THE END~ |
