Meadow Girl Chapter 3 Nick starred at the doctor. No, he would not believe that his friend was dying. No way in hell would he believe it. Brian was healthy. They fixed his heart months ago. Nothing was going to happen to him. This crazy doctor was lying to them all, it was a sick joke. "Your joking. He can't be sick. He is to healthy!" Nick sounded like a scared child, lost without his mother. "I'm afraid he is. We've got him on antibiotics, we are still waiting for improvement." The doctor said. "Is he awake?" Kevin asked. "No not yet. But you can see him now if you wish. But I must warn you that he is in pretty bad shape." "Yes we'll go." The guys said in unison. The doctor led them to the intensive care ward. Where Brian was placed for temporary observation. If he improved he would be moved to a room. Machines beeped. And people cried in pain and agony around them. The guys tried to shrug off the sounds of the hospital but did not manage very well. The guys then saw Brian. Lifeless, pale and frail looking. He was attached to machine after machine. And just as the doctor had said, it looked hopeless.As rain fell from the dark sky. A sky that seemed to promise malicious undergoings to anyone who challenged it. Brian starred out at the lake. It wasn't beautiful anymore. There water was dark gray, murky and there were no silver fish to be seen. He turned from the lake. He now starred in awe at the once green oak tree. Which still stood tall but was bare and dead along with the grass. Thunder crackled above. 'What has happened here' Brian thought. Suddenly he saw from in the shadows of the gigantic tree. The girl. He walked toward her. Brian could hear tiny sobs escaping from her lips. He got closer and then knelt down beside her. She was soaking wet, not unlike himself. Her dress was torn and in places he could see cuts and scratches on her flesh. In all she was still beautiful but no longer had the radiant light of happiness and joy. "What has happened here?" Brian asked her. But she only cried harder. She did however manage to calm herself after a few hard sobs. "It was you." She looked at him. "You did this!" She now yelled at him. "But how, how did I do this! How did I kill everything?" He was confused again. "I don't know." She said quietly, starting to sob again. Brian leaned forward, reaching out his arms and cradled the girl trying to calm her. "By the way.." Brian looked at her and smiled a smile of reassurance. "What did you say your name was?" "Lily" Was all that came from her saddened face. The two looked at each other for a time. Lily still crying and Brian holding her trying to set things right. Brian then looked at her and without knowing it gave her a soft kiss. "It will be alright" he said. "I promise."Next: Chapter 4 |
