Chapter Eight
*************
Kenshin opened his eyes slowly, looking around the room. This wasn’t his room. Thoughts and feelings reemerged, snapping him back to reality. For all he’d said and done. He’d lost control and he’d . . . .
He felt her moving in his arms, her leg rubbing against him. His breathing was becoming shallow. He closed his eyes in an effort to remain calm, taking deep breaths that were of no help at all. He could smell her all around, his mind was becoming hazy. He hadn’t been able to tell her how he felt. Last night. Last night had been an explosions of his raw desire. Something he hadn’t been able to control.
Carefully, he pushed her off his body so she laid on the futon. She made small whimpering noises somehow aware of their separating. He paused wanting to stay and knowing he had to leave. He gave her body an appreciative glance before he covered her in a light blanket. He had to fix things before they went any further.
It was obvious that despite his best intentions he hadn’t been able to keep away from her. He’d learned to love her more and more with each passing day since first meeting her. Her beauty had developed into something dangerous and tempting as well further hindering his denial of the emerging feelings. He picked up his yukata and quietly left the room.
He made his way to his room to get some clothes and all the money he had. He would leave after he took a quick bath. He walked down the hall his mind full of images of the prior night. He realized his problem stemmed from having suppressed his feelings for her for so long. They were bound to find a way out. And they had.
He’d done it for her though. At the time his feelings had begun to develop for her he had thought her too young to know what she really wanted. He had meant well. He hadn‘t wanted to take her innocence away. To taint her. She was so beautiful both in and out. She deserved much more than him. Things were different now though. There was no use in denying what he felt for her anymore not when she’d seen how he felt. The reaction she had to him. A tingle ran under his skin at the mere thought of touching her. Settle. He needed to settle down, his nerves were on edge.
He stood at the gate looking at the dojo for a moment. This is were his heart laid. Where he‘d found himself again. He smiled softly and left closing the door securely behind him.
*************
Kaoru was slow in waking. Her body felt heavy and languid. She yawned slowly. Her hand reached out to her side but she was alone. She felt panic rise deep in her soul. He couldn’t have left. . . . I mean he was right here? She sat up and the blanket fell to her waist. The cold air swept past her bare bosom. She was naked. She frowned, at the conflicting memories and emotions. All right, so last night . . . . . last night wasn’t a dream. He was really here and they . . . . but they didn’t. She rose despite her body’s protest. She picked up her yukata and left to go check his room putting it on as she made her way out.
She took a moment, slumping down to the floor she almost sobbed. He wasn’t in the house and he wasn’t in the yard. His things were still here, it was just him. He was out. Why would he have left without a note or . . . . . something to let her know he was out. She picked herself up and made her way outside to stoke the fire for her bath. He was just out, there was nothing to worry about she was just over reacting.
Her bath was a blur. She sat in her room combing her wet hair. Tears still glistening in the corner of her eyes. He would never leave her without saying good by. ‘Kaoru-baka.‘ She had to listen to reason. ‘Honestly, Kaoru.‘ What was she thinking. She dabbed some perfume on the usual spots and then went back outside to wait for him.
Kenshin locked the door and turned to come back into the house. ‘He’d found it‘, he thought as he patted a pocket hidden in his gi. It had taken longer than he would have liked but he had it. His smile slipped off as he saw her downcast face. She sat on the porch crying into her hands. Something must have happened while he was out. He moved in a blur. In the moment before he reached her she saw him. She stood quicker than he anticipated and jumped into his arms. “Kenshin.” She said as she hugged him tightly. She was so glad he was back. She shouldn’t have doubted him. “Kenshin.” She said nuzzling him.
His nose made direct contact with the perfume she wore causing his mind to go blank.
“Kenshin, I didn’t know where you were I was worried. You didn’t leave a note. I woke up alone.” Kaoru realized she said too much and stopped her blabbering.
His amber eyes strained to focus on what she was saying.
Kaoru tried to back away from the embrace but his arms had come around her waist holding her in place. She looked up and was startled by the color of his eyes. “Battoussai.” She breathed.
The words he’d been about to say trailed off at the mention of his other name. She didn’t seem frightened, just surprised. Her eyes scanned his face lingering on his lips a little too long. Something he noticed. Her hands which rested on his arms stopped their struggling. This was obviously a dream. Why would the battoussai be out in plain sight when there was no danger present.
“I . . . I.” Wasn’t she mad about something?
He leaned into her, closing the small distance between their bodies. He watched her face as she eagerly closed her eyes readying herself for a kiss. He smiled and tipped her head back. He captured her lips in a slow enticing kiss. Her arms wrapped themselves around him trying desperately to bring him closer to her. He groaned at the feel of her body against his. His hands moved slowly until they grasped her lower back. He cupped her bottom, kneading it, pressing her to him. She gasped at the feeling.
Her face was flushed she was sure. She looked at him, not sure she knew what she wanted to see when she met his eyes. Eyes so intense and vivid, full of lust, and animalistic hunger. An unquenchable desire for her. But most importantly she could see love. It shone just as strong as his desire. She cupped his face in her hands. “Kenshin.” She whispered. Her breath wafted over his lips momentarily stealing his focus away from her eyes.
His hands trailed back to her waist, grasping it as he bent to kiss her again. His kiss was not as gentle as his first. This kiss was rougher more demanding, bruising. He would not be able to hold off. His restraints were too weak. He was weak. He let go of her lips only when he felt her becoming limp in his arms.
Kaoru gasped for breath. Leaning on his shoulder, she had the sudden urge to run. Would she be able to handle such relentless passion? The man never gave up. He approached life with a single-minded purpose that was breathtaking at times. A purpose he achieved at all costs. She trembled in his arms knowing he’d found a new purpose.
He nuzzled her and immediately his mind flashed white. The smell of jasmine was strong on her today. Perhaps because she was still wet. He picked her up and carried her into the house. Her smell broke the last strings binding his control in place. He wanted her so much. Thought was becoming unintelligible. He would not be able to go on much longer.
Kaoru felt the firmness of his body for only a moment before she realized they were going to her bedroom. The door to her room slid open and then closed. She had left her futon out. He sat her on it slowly and then kneeled in front of her, taking hold of her face he began to kiss her. Her brow, her eyes, the small nose on her face. He kissed her lips last giving her only a chaste kiss. His lips moved down her chin to her throat. He licked her collar bone before laying an open mouth kiss on the small hollow of her throat. He bit the side of her neck gently making goose bumps appear on her arms. He wanted to arouse the same feelings of desire she provoked in him by merely standing in his line of sight.
He undid the sash to her yukata, slowing his movements when it was time to part it. Today they would become one. He looked at her face, a face he loved so much because it was hers. Her eyes had darkened to a deep blue. They were almost black.
She licked her lips nervously. Taking a deep breath she parted her yukata. Turning her head away so she could hide her blush.
His eyes followed the movement of her hands. His pulse raced and his breath quickened to see her so, exposed. He had seen her the night before but he had a feeling no matter how many time he saw her in his life time she would always take his breath away. Slowly his left hand reached for her abdomen. Running his hand along the smooth skin until it took rest on her hip. He grasped it pulling her to him. She tumbled into his embrace looking at him anxiously. “You’re so beautiful.” His voice had deepened and again it sent shivers down her spine.
She blushed trying to hide her face into his chest. He smiled over her head and finished what she started by pulling the yukata off in one swift movement. She pressed closer to him trying to hide her complete nakedness.
“Don’t hide from me.” He said running his hand through her hair.
