Post Cards From the Early to mid-1900s from Madison, IN and other locales.
I have assembled a large number of Post Cards, dating from the early 1900s to the mid-1900s. The majority of these cards were sent to members of my wife?s family whom resided in Dubuque, Iowa. They are interesting nonetheless. The convention used in identifying each card is such that the name identifies the locale on the card and the date is that of the card?s postmark. Those ID?d as ?circa? have a postmark, of which is illegible, or completely missing and thus is only an estimate.
Madison is a town in Jefferson County, Indiana along the Ohio River. Most of the post cards originating from there were written to Anton and Caroline Fritsche. Caroline?s maiden name was Huck, and it appears most of the cards originated from members of the Huck family. Although most of the cards are written in English, a significant number are written in German. Except for those mentioning Dubuque, most of the other cards, were sent by various family members while visiting the towns of mention.
It also became fashionable to place a person?s photo on a postcard. Many of these type cards can also be found here. The identity of many of these individuals is unknown.
This is a large project, with over 100 post cards, so I will occasionally be adding more to this collection. Check back for updates.
