EXPERIENCE
Research Assistant,
Mechanical Engineering Department, LSU
08/2003-07/2005
o Modeled high-temperature deformation using mesoscale
simulations & finite-element method.
o Investigated the effect of inhomogeneity of varying size
and toplogies on the stress
distribution in the microstructure during superplastic deformation using
simulations.
(Conference
Abstract)
Instructor, Materials Testing Lab
01/2004-11/2004
o Instructed, supervised and evaluated the lab sessions in
mechanical testing, material characterization and heat
treatment on a variety of materials including steel,
aluminum alloys, polymers and glass.
o Performed statistical analysis on the experimental data
obtained.
Engineer, Inspection & Quality Assurance
07/2002-07/2003
DCM Engineering Products, Punjab, India
(A QS 9000 certified union-based gray-iron foundry with over
2000 employees. manufacturing engine head & blocks for
automobiles and tractors.
Customers include: Indian (Suzuki, Hyundai, Mitsubishi,
Cummins, CNH); International (Hyundai (Korea), Perodua
(Malaysia) and GM, GE (U.S.))
o Routinely performed and supervised visual inspection and dimensional
checking of finished castings. Prepared daily reports
pertaining to rejections and quality related issues. Became
familiar with QS 9000 and SPC tools.
o Utilized tools like root-cause analysis & control
charts to eliminate defects and decrease rejection rate.
o Performed coordinate measurements
on
CMM and designed gauges from the CAD drawings for
geometrical dimensioning & tolerances (GD&T).
Prepared first-dimensional reports for development
items.
o Conceptualized & designed a new charging mechanism
for induction furnaces.
o Implemented 5-S principles in Core-Making Shop by
drafting check-lists and creating awareness & training among
workers. Reduced core-sand wastage by 4 %.
o Served in Cross Functional Teams (CFTs) aimed for
quality initiatives and process improvements.
o Direct interaction with customers, vendors and
shop-floor personnel at different levels. o
Research Intern, Materials Processing Division
05/2001-07/2001
Bhabha Atomic Research Center, Mumbai, India
o Worked independently to study the Effect of Additives on
Compaction Behavior of SiC Powder using powder metallurgical
route. Operated Hydraulic Press and High-Temperature
Sintering Furnace.
Summer Intern
06/2000-07/2000
Integrated Steel Plant, Visakhapatnam, India
o Understood the complete process of steelmaking from
raw-materials handling to rolling mills.
o Obtained training in chemical and metallurgical analysis
and testing of semi-finished & in-process material (process
control) and finished products for maintaining standards &
quality to customers.
PROJECTS
Microstructural Evaluation of Alloyed and Unalloyed Al
Cast Wheel Samples
o Studied the effect of Ti and B additions on the grain
refinement of cast Al alloy by observing microstructures in
Image Analyzer and calculating Dendritic Arm Spacing.
Examination of Ni Based Alloys under Different Heat
