                                            Birth Story
On Tuesday the fifth of Febuary I was found to be 4cm dialated, and the baby had her hands on her head. The doctor could feel them and made her put her hands down so she might decend a bit more. We expected things to happen soon. That night we actually went to hospital with false labor. If I didn't have the baby I'd be induced the next monday. On thursday at 4:00pm as I was getting off of the computer I felt two small gushes of fluid. I silently went upstairs to check what had happened, so that I wouldn't alarm my mom or Tony who had hardly gotten any sleep the whole week, expecting me to go into labor as soon as they fell asleep. When I sat down I felt a pretty big gush, and I knew what it was. I told Tony my waters had broken, and he rushed as fast as he could to get ready to go to the hospital. He was very excited and relieved it was finally happening. When we got there they put me on the monitors. I was having no contractions, and they confirmed that it was amniotic fluid that was leaking. They said I would go to the maternity ward for the night and if nothing had happened then I'd get pitocen to speed things along at 8:00am friday morning. Nothing ended up happening so off to the labor ward we went at 8:00am. I was still only 4cm. They put in an IV and contractions started right away. They started at 3 minutes apart, and we expected to have the baby befor 3:00pm that day. As the contractions began to get stronger I requested Gas & Air for pain relief. It realy helped in the beginning. It took away alot of pain. You feel normal while breathing it, then super dizzy when you take it away. As the pain got worse the more gas they added. at about 11:00am I asked for an epidural because the pain was very bad and the gas was doing nothing except making me dizzy. It took a whole hour to finally get an anesthialogist because they were all busy. I ended up throwing up, and even got it on Tony. He didn't complain once, and was such a great coach throgh the whole labor. Once I got the epidural I felt great for about a half an hour, although I was very itchy (a side affect to the epidural), but it was a great break from the pain. As the babys shoulders were grinding on my pelvic bones, I felt alot of pain. Finally an hour after the epidural I was able to push. in 4 pushes her head was out, and 1 more big push and there she was. The cord was wrapped around her neck, arms and legs. Not too tight though. After the cord stopped pulsating, Tony cut it. She was placed on my tummy. Her hair was red, and slightly curly. Her eyes were her daddies, but dark grey in colour, but looked brown in the light we were in at the time. She had vernix all over her especially on her head stuck in her hair.
Then she was examined and given a bath, and handed to Tony, then to my mom, then back to me where I fed her. She is a very healthy and happy baby!
