There is a wall around my heart

Protecting me from pain.

Though I feel every sorrow,

I have to face tomorrow,

Take on the world again.

Supporting those around me

To help them bear their tears

Take strength, you know,

So I don't show

The pain that hovers near.

My tears are shed in private

Much further down the road.

I cannot bear

Increasing cares

For those who'd share my load.

Yet every now and then

The wall comes tumbling down.

I never know

When it will go -

In tub, in bed, in town.

So when the tears roll down my cheeks,

Don't worry. I'm okay.

'Twas just a year

Ago, my dear,

I found that I could say

The things I've always kept inside

Well hidden from the light
