[Hybrid Series] 3 - The Hybrid Queen

By Cheri.

Part 1

A dark shape slowly snuck up to the window of the Parker's home in Forest Hills, Queens and looked in. The lips drew back in a sneer as the figure observed May Parker seated in the living room chatting on the phone. He had been waiting a month or so to get revenge on the man known as Spider-Man for both him and his people and tonight he was going to have it. He pushed a button on the belt around his waist and slipped into invisibility.

"Parker." he hissed. "You will die for what you did to me and my people! But not before you witness what we are going to do to your female!"

He turned and jumped straight up onto the roof. He silently ran to the other side and paused listening for any movement below him and looking at the window he knew led into Mary Jane's bedroom. He smirked as he saw Mary Jane's room was dark and there were no sounds coming from Peter's bedroom directly below him. He gathered they were either asleep or out for the moment. Either way, he would have them. He looked over the edge of the roof and saw the windowsill leading into Peter's bedroom. He gauged the distance and leapt quietly onto it. Easing himself into the room, he noticed Peter was nowhere to be seen. He inched cautiously out into the hallway and began to search for him. He sighed in frustration. Peter was not there. He silently crept down the stairs. He saw Peter's aunt May still in the living room still talking on the phone. He paused and listened to her.

"I'm so glad your honeymoon went well, dear. It's nice to know that Peter and you are finally together." aunt May said.

*Soooo, Parker and his female are husband and wife now. Even better* the figure thought to himself with a grin.

"You just let me know if you two need anything and I'll bring it over to your apartment." May continued.

*Shit, they've moved out! * The figure thought, angrily.

He came down closer to the bottom of the stairs in order to hear aunt May better in case she mentioned where the apartment was. No such luck, however "Well, I'll let you go, Mary Jane. I just wanted to make sure you were all right and you had a nice honeymoon. I'll talk to you later, dear. Goodbye!"

The figure cursed silently as aunt May hung up the phone. He couldn't believe his luck. Parker and his female were gone and living somewhere else. He considered going over to aunt May and torturing her to get the location of the apartment out of her, but decided against it. Parker would find out if his aunt May had been hurt and that would set him on his trail. He didn't want Parker knowing he was alive...yet. He decided he would find Parker tomorrow when he went out as Spider-Man and have him lead him to his apartment.

Throwing a contemptible look at aunt May. He scurried up the stairs and leaping from Peter's bedroom window, Taran landed on the ground and made his way back to the underground lair.

Mary Jane sighed as she finished the dinner dishes. It had been a long day. Unfortunately, the bliss they shared on the honeymoon vanished the moment they got back and had to return to their respective jobs. After a delicious meal of meatloaf and potatoes, Peter had helped clear the table and do part of the dishes before heading upstairs to work on his projects. Mary Jane stared at the stairs and then curiosity getting the better of her, she headed up.

She found Peter at a desk against the back wall of the bedroom working quietly on something. She bent over his shoulder and purred in his ear. "Hey Tiger, whatcha working on?"

Peter grinned. "Nothing much just adding a few new accessories to help me fight crime."

Mary Jane stared down at the little white circular disc in the vague shape of a spider. "So what's this then?" she asked, pointing to it.

"That my dear, is a little tracking device I've invented. I've figured out what frequency my spider sense operates on and I've incorporated it into this little gizmo here. I throw it on someone and if it sticks to him or her, I'll be able to track him or her anywhere using this." he held up a tiny monitor.

"Ingenious. And what's this little marvel going to be called?" Mary Jane cooed in his ear.

"Um, I'm thinking I'll call it a Spider-Tracer." he said. He looked up as Mary Jane giggled. "What? What's so funny?" he asked.

"Spider-tracer? Are you gonna start naming everything spider-something now? What's next, the Spider-a-Rang" Mary Jane said.

Peter rolled his eyes. "Not hardly" he said, grinning.

"Ah c'mon. Why not, hon? Then we could move out of this place and maybe get you a huge mansion with your little Spider Cave underneath. Then you could drive your Spider mobile and you could give the police a Spider Signal to use. Then eventually we'll have to get a dog and dress him like you and call him Spider-Dog and then we get Spider-Horse and Spider-Falcon and eventually we'll buy you a little spider and you can have Spider-Spider." Mary Jane teased.

Peter grinned and poked her in the ribs. "Let's not forget about you, my dear. I'll need a trusty sidekick! Hmmm, maybe we'll call you....Webby, the girl wonder and you can wear a little web bra and panties and say things like "Holy web shooters, Spider-Man!"

Mary Jane's finger traced down Peter's chest. "Mmmmm, You'd love to see me in a web bra and panties, wouldn't you?" she whispered suggestively.

"Actually, I'd like to see you in nothing at all. But you might get arrested if we're out fighting crime. Wouldn't want my Webby in court for indecent exposure when I need her to help me bust the baddies!" Peter said kissing her.

Mary Jane giggled. "So where are you gonna put all this new equipment, hmmm?" she whispered.

"In here." Peter said, picking up a utility belt he had lying off to one side. He looked over at Mary Jane as she began to snicker. "Yes, I know it looks like I'm copying off of Batman again. But this'll be really handy for me. I can carry the tracers, the tracking device, my car keys, important papers, change if I need it."

"Web fluid."

Peter looked at her. "Web fluid? Why would I need that? I have web fluid already." he held up his left wrist and pointed to the white splotch.

"Well hon., you never know. You might just run out of web fluid someday. If you do, you can swallow a tube of it or something and be completely refilled."

Peter stared at her for a second, an amused smile playing at his lips. Suddenly he leaped from his chair and grabbing her flung her on the bed. Lying over her, he began to kiss her neck. "I'm glad I married you, MJ. Things are never dull when you're around!"

"I'm glad to hear that, Tiger. Now, lets not talk shop anymore. Let's have some fun, shall we?"

Peter grinned. He raised his arm and shot a web strand hitting the light switch. Pulling down on it, he turned off the light.

Part 2

The next morning Mary Jane rose early to begin breakfast. It was her day off and she was glad. Enrique had been working her like a punch press lately especially since she had returned from her honeymoon. In his eyes, she still had to make up for time off, honeymoon or no honeymoon. His attitude towards her excuse for taking the time off was enough to make her want to punch his teeth down his throat. That's why she felt she needed today to calm down and mentally prepare herself for another grueling day. All that anger melted away as she felt Peter wrap his arms around her and give her a kiss on the cheek.

"Mmmmm, Last night was fantastic." He said softly in her ear.

"I agree 100 %, Tiger." She said returning the kiss on his lips.

"What say you and me take a quick spin over the rooftops before I begin my day?" he said.

"Mmmmm, sounds like fun. I always love riding with you...or on you." She said, teasingly.

"Why, Mary Jane Watson-Parker, you have a filthy mind underneath those innocent girl next door looks." Peter said, tickling her ribs

Mary Jane flashed him a look of innocence as she giggled.

"I know, but you like me that way." She said in a sultry voice.

"Looks, charm and sex appeal! I certainly hit the jackpot with you!" Peter said, kissing her.

"I quite agree. I'm the must-have wife for today's superhero on the go!" she said.

Peter glanced over as the toast popped out of the toaster.

"I'll go ahead and butter the toast." He said, kissing her.

"Mmmmm, I'd love for you to butter my toast any day." Mary Jane continued in her sultry voice.

Peter looked over at her with an amused smile.

"I love when you get in these good moods. They are so rare, nowadays." He said, taking the toast out of the toaster.

Mary Jane nodded.

"Well, having a day off from Enrique is enough to put anyone into a good mood!"

Peter laughed,

"I completely understand. I've seen the way he acts."

Mary Jane rolled her eyes and she put the bacon and eggs on a plate.

"What you've seen is the mild version of Enrique. He's 100 times worse when outside people aren't around."

Peter poured the milk

"Oh, Lord! Than I think you better find another line of work quick!" he said.

"Like Webby?"

Peter gave her a sly grin.

"Ummmm, Maybe?" he said.

Mary Jane laughed as she sat the dishes on the table. They ate together in silence for a while, just enjoying each other's company. Finally after a half hour, breakfast was finished and Peter helped to clear the table. He started to turn on the faucet when Mary Jane stopped him.

"Leave these for me, Tiger. I wanna get to that morning ride."

Peter grinned

"Whatever you say, milady." He said with a bow.

"Wow, kinda nippy out here this morning." Mary Jane commented as they swung over the rooftops.

Peter looked at her

"You alright?"

Mary Jane nodded.

"Yeah, I'm fine. You're keeping me warm, Tiger." She said, rubbing his back.

Suddenly, Peter interrupted his swing and casting another web line, swung over to the nearest rooftop. As they landed, Mary Jane looked over at Peter, confused.

"What's wrong?"

Peter motioned for her to be silent and follow him. They made their way to the edge of the roof. Mary Jane looked down and saw what had made Peter stop. Below them in the alley two criminals were trying to break into the building next door. One of them was using a lock pick on the door while the other one stood watch. Peter and Mary Jane watched quietly as they continued the break-in, unaware of their presence.

"Hurry up, Lou. Spider-Man might be here any moment." The one criminal said nervously to the other one picking the lock.

"Calm down, Joey. Spider-Man ain't within miles of here. You made sure of that. Now pipe down and let me work." Lou said, as he continued to fiddle with the lock.

Peter leaned over to Mary Jane.

"Nooooo, Spider-Man ain't within miles of here." He said softly, imitating Lou's Brooklyn accent.

Mary Jane stifled a giggle.

"Watch this, hon.! You get to see your hubby in action." He whispered to her.

As Mary Jane watched, Peter quickly leaped over to the building the crooks were trying to enter and silently shot out a web line. He waited until Joey had his back turned and quietly lowered himself between him and Lou. He quickly tapped Joey on the shoulder and raced back up the line.

Joey turned.

"What?" He said to Lou.

Lou looked at him.

"What do you mean "What?" " He asked, irritated that his work had been interrupted.

"I mean, "What?" You tapped me on the shoulder just now, didn't ya?"

Lou stared at him.

"No, I didn't tap ya on the shoulder; I'm too busy trying to get our asses into this building. Now why don't ya make yourself useful and check and see no one's comin'" he said, irritated

Joey nodded and walked towards the front of the alley, grumbling to himself. Lou shook his head and went back to picking the lock. Peter looked over at Mary Jane who was holding her hand to her mouth trying to hold back the giggles. Peter looked over and made sure Joey was at the end of the alley before he walked over to a drainpipe at the corner of the building nearest to Lou. He looked up Mary Jane and motioned for her to look down. He waited until Mary Jane was looking down before he bent down and put his mouth directly over the opening of the drainpipe, hoping that it was clear of enough debris.

"Whaaaaaaaaaaa!" Peter yelled down the drainpipe in a low voice.

He quickly looked over the edge and watched as Lou jumped at the sound of the noise and threw his lock pick up in the air. Peter motioned for Mary Jane to step back in case he happened to look up.

Lou looked all around in a panic trying to determine the source of the noise. He frowned as he noticed Joey walking back towards him.

"Was that you?" he asked him.

Joey stopped.

"Was that me, what?" he said.

"Was that you that just went "Whaaaaaaaaaaaa!"? " He said, angrily

Joey stared at his partner as if he had gone insane.

"Whaaaaaaa?" He said.

Lou glared at him.

"Don't play innocent with me! I know it was you, and I'm warning you to stop it before you end up with a fat lip!"

Joey held up his hands

"Whoa! It wasn't me. Maybe it was Spider-Man." He said

Lou rolled his eyes.

"You wish." He mumbled.

"Well, I know it wasn't me." Joey mumbled back.

He turned and began to keep watch again as Lou went back to the lock. Peter looked up once more at Mary Jane who was now fighting to keep her laughter in. Peter looked down and spied a small bag next to Lou. He smiled under his mask as he saw a crowbar sticking out of it. He shot a web line and snagged the crowbar. He carefully maneuvered it out of the bag and down beside Lou's feet. As Lou continued to work, grunting and cursing, Peter gave the line a tug, releasing the crowbar. He pulled the empty strand up and threw it beside him. Then carefully controlling his webs, he made a small softball-sized ball of webbing and attached it to a web line. Once he had finished, he grabbed hold of the end of the strand and threw the ball as hard as he could at the back of Joey's head. The ball hit with a sickening thud and Peter pulled on the strand bringing the ball back to his hand just as Joey turned around.

Rubbing his head and fuming, Joey looked around and spied the crowbar by Lou's feet. He gritted his teeth as he slapped Lou on the back of the head, as hard as he could.

"Ow! What the hell did you do that for?" Lou said in shock

"You know what I did that for, asshole! You hit me with that crowbar!" Joey said.

"I don't know what you're on, Joey. But you better get off it right quick!" Lou said.

"I know your game! You're gonna knock me out and take everything for yourself, ain't ya?" Joey said, with hatred in his eyes.

"You are fuckin' nu..."

Lou reeled back as Joey punched him in the face. He rubbed his chin as he stared at his partner.

"Oh, so that's how ya wanna play, ya traitor. I'll learn ya some manners!" Lou said, decking him in the jaw.

Peter sat and watched as the two crooks went after each other with everything they could get their hands on from the crowbar to empty bottles to dirt. He looked up at Mary Jane who was now bent over in silent laughter. As the fight continued, Peter edged his way head first down the wall until he was right beside the warring criminals.

"Wow, and who said crime fighting can't be fun once in awhile?" he said, loudly.

The two crooks stopped and slowly turned and stared at Peter with wide eyes. Peter couldn't help but chuckle at the stupid horrified expressions each one now had on his face.

"Hi!' he said, conversationally. "Contrary to popular belief, I was not miles from here and I thought I'd stop and see how you were doing today. In my line of work, it's not often I get a chance to really stop and talk to the little people."

"AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!" Joey and Lou screamed at the top of their lungs as they began to push each other to the front of the alley.

"Aaaaaah? You mean you don't want to talk to little ole me? I'm hurt fellas!" Peter said, crawling quickly after them. "Here I make a public appearance all ready for a nice chat and you scream in my face. Tsk, Tsk, You should have better manners than that! Oh well, if you won't settle for me, perhaps the police are bored enough, they'd want to listen to your story."

Peter shot out his webbing cocooning Lou and Joey back to back. As they slumped to the ground, Peter hopped down onto the ground and picked them up. Carrying them to the edge of the alley he looked out and saw a policeman walking on the other side of the street.

"Ooooooh, Officer!" He called out. "I think you might wanna take a look at this. These two gentlemen seem to have lost their key or something and they couldn't get into this building. Maybe you can help them out." He dropped the crooks to the ground and leaped away as the cop crossed the street towards them. As Mary Jane and Peter watched the cop looked around for Spider-Man and then noticing the bag by the door began to radio for a patrol car. Peter grabbed Mary Jane and swung back towards their apartment.

"What a shame." He said imitating an old woman, as he and Mary Jane laughed. "And they looked like such nice boys too. What's the world coming to?"

Peter and Mary Jane looked at each other and laughed hysterically as they swung through the air.

Part 3

Peter dropped Mary Jane off at the house and kissed her on the cheek.

"Well, duty calls." He said to her. "As they say in Men in Black, I have to protect New York from the scum of the universe."

Mary Jane laughed.

"I can just picture you in your Spider-Man costume and your black Ray-Bans. Very sexy." she purred." And then you can use that new Spider-Man song as your theme song as you fight crime."

Peter rolled his eyes. Someone had recently recorded a song about him and it had gotten plenty of airplay on the radio. He was beginning to grow sick of it.

"No thanks." He said. " I really don't want to swing around the city all day listening to someone singing about how I can do whatever a spider can and how I can spin a web and catch thieves just like flies."

"Well it's true, isn't it?" Mary Jane asked.

"Yeah...but I don't want to hear someone singing about it every ten seconds." Peter said with a chuckle.

He gave her a kiss.

"I'll be back later, hon. Enjoy your day off." He said

Mary Jane kissed him back.

"I will. Please be careful! You know how I worry about you."

Peter nodded.

"I'll be careful, MJ. I don't want to do anything that might jeopardize my private time with you."

He waved and walked up the stairs as he pulled down his mask.

"Oh and Tiger, catch a few thieves for me and be sure you catch them just like flies." She called up the stairs after him.

"Oh, hardy har har!" Peter called back.

As he heard Mary Jane's laugh echoing from downstairs, he shot out a web line and swung out.

Peter perched on the edge of the roof. Most of the day had been spent swinging back and forth on his patrols. He had encountered nothing major. Just the usual bunch of thieves and carjackers and pickpockets. Not that he minded. After dealing with Harry, he was glad he didn't have to worry about criminals who flew around on gliders and threw pumpkin bombs and razor bats at him. He sighed as he thought about Harry.

*We need to get up to Ravencroft sometime this week and visit him.* he thought. *He's probably lonely and I'm sure a visit from us will lift his spirits.*

Taran, cloaked in invisibility, perched a short distance away from Peter. He had been out searching all day. He figured sooner or later he would find Parker. How hard was it after all to find a man swinging around the city wearing red and blue tights. He didn't reckon, however, on just how fast he really was. So every time he had spotted Parker, he had had trouble keeping up with him and had gotten left behind. Now, however, he had stopped to rest and Taran was finally able to get close to him. He kept some distance though. He didn't want to set off his precognitive ability and allow Parker to detect him. He watched him as he stood up and stretched his legs and thought about how ridiculous he looked in that costume.

*What in the world made you think of red and blue when you thought of a spider costume, Parker?* Taran thought, with distaste. *Call me crazy but if you're gonna fight crime, shouldn't you have chosen something a little less obvious?*

He shook his head. The scientists who had mutated him had ruined his chance at a normal life, but he was glad, at that moment, they had decided to give him a black body when they did it. He didn't think he would have been able to deal with having a red and blue body.

He watched as Parker stretched his back and stared at the setting sun.

"Well, better get home to the misses." He said to himself.

Taran smiled.

*It's about time.* he thought.

"Honey! I'm hoooooome!" Peter called as he came down the stairs.

He ran to Mary Jane and gave her a long kiss.

"What's for dinner? I'm ready to strap on the feed bag!" he said.

"Chicken pot pie." Mary Jane said, setting a round dish on the kitchen table.

Peter leaned over and sniffed the aroma.

"Mmmmmmm, delicious!" he said as he began to spoon a portion out onto his plate. "You know, hon. You are such a good cook. I'm gonna end up fat from all this good eating. Then I won't be able to swing around. I'll have to ride the bus or something."

Mary Jane laughed.

"I bet Jameson would have fun with that too."

Peter rolled his eyes.

"I can just imagine the kind of headline ole picklepuss would come up with too" he said. "So how was your day?" he said spooning in a mouthful of pot pie.

"Well, I...got sick just after you left."

Peter stopped eating and looked at her, concerned.

"MJ? You okay?" he said.

Mary Jane nodded.

"I think so. I'm probably getting the flu or something. There's been a lot of sick people eating at the diner lately. I think something's going around."

She patted his hand.

"I'm gonna be okay, Peter. Just quit worrying about me. You have more important things to worry about, Lord knows."

"Nothing's more important than you, MJ." Peter said.

Mary Jane leaned over and kissed him.

"I feel the same way about you, Tiger." She said. "I know you love me with all your heart and you constantly worry about me, but you shouldn't be getting worked up over this. It'll pass in a few days, I'm sure of it. Anyway, there's really nothing you can do. But I'll go to the clinic tomorrow before my shift and get checked out, just for you."

"Thanks MJ." Peter said, squeezing her hand.

"You're welcome." She said. "Now eat up before your food gets cold."

"Yes, aunt May." Peter said, as he dodged a playful punch from Mary Jane.

____________________________________________________

"So what is this movie we're gonna watch?" Peter asked as he and Mary Jane settled onto the couch.

"Um...Pleasantville." Mary Jane said, pressing the play button.

"Who's in it?"

Mary Jane looked at the video box.

"Um...Jeff Daniels, William H Macy, Reese Witherspoon and Tobey Maguire."

Peter looked at Mary Jane.

"Never heard of him." He said.

"Me neither. But Peggy said he was a good actor."

She put down the remote and leaned back into Peter as he put his arms around her. They sat and watched the movie in silence.

"Hey!" Mary Jane said, suddenly. "That Tobey Maguire looks a lot like you."

Peter scoffed.

"He does not."

Mary Jane looked from Peter to the tv and back.

"Yes, he does, Peter. He looks a lot like you."

Peter looked at Mary Jane.

"I don't think so." He said.

"I think so. He has the same color hair you do and the same color eyes and your faces are similar. Are you sure you didn't have a twin brother." She said with a wink.

"Yes, I'm pretty sure I didn't have a twin brother, MJ" Peter said, rolling his eyes.

Mary Jane laughed.

"Well, I think if they ever decide to make a movie about your life. He would be the perfect choice." She said, pointing to the screen.

Peter stared at her.

"MJ, how is somebody gonna make a movie about my life when no one knows my real identity except you and Harry?"

Mary Jane stared at him with a wicked grin.

Peter narrowed his eyes.

"Don't you dare, MJ." He said teasingly.

"Don't I dare, what?" Mary Jane asked, innocently.

"I know that look, MJ." Peter said, grinning.

"What? Can't a girl make some extra money. You know how high our rent is, Peter. All I'd have to do is make one phone call to some movie people and maybe I can persuade them to let me write the script. Then we could become rich and wouldn't have to worry about money anymore." She said, giggling.

"Yeah, you better hope you get rich because after all the criminals find out who I really am, you're gonna need one hell of a security system to keep them away."

"Well, that's where you come in, Tiger. You'll be my bodyguard and protect me while I'm out shopping for my jewels and designer clothes."

Peter stared at her.

"You'll make one hell of an actress, MJ. You already have a vivid imagination." He said, kissing her.

After the movie ended, Peter and Mary Jane headed up to bed. As they undressed, Taran perched on the apartment building across the street staring at their shadows through the flimsy curtains covering the balcony doors. He chuckled to himself.

"At last, Parker. I've found you and nothing is going to stop us from getting our revenge for what you've done to us. We'll let you have one more night to enjoy your female, but tomorrow all bets are off!"

*-----------------------------*-----------------------------*-----------------------------*

Part 4

The next morning,Peter and Mary Jane kissed each other goodbye. Mary Jane didn't need to be at the diner until the afternoon, but she was going to honor her promise to visit the clinic and see what was wrong. Actually, Mary Jane was really wanting to go now. She had woken up earlier and ended up vomiting in the toilet, causing Peter to be more concerned than he had the night before. As Mary Jane cleaned up, she began to get a sneaking suspicion that she had something other than the flu. She thought about what day of the month it was and realized that her period was late. She decided to keep her suspicions to herself until she saw the doctor.

As Peter finished getting into his Spider-Man costume, he went to Mary Jane and held her tight.

"I'll see you later tonight, MJ. Let me know what the doc says." He said, kissing her on the cheek.

"I will, Tiger." Mary Jane said, kissing him back. "You be careful too. I don't want to have to go from the clinic to the hospital today."

"Don't worry, MJ. I'll be careful." Peter reassured her.

With a quick glance out, he shot a web line out and leaped off the balcony towards downtown.

Mary Jane sat in a chair in the doctor's office patiently waiting for the results of her exam. The doctor had been gone for at least twenty minutes and Mary Jane was both bored and anxious to learn what his findings were. She noticed a small magazine rack on the back of the door. Walking over to it, she found a National Geographic with a picture of two cheetah cubs on the front. She grabbed it and sat back down again, thumbing through it as she tried to imagine what the doctor would say to her. She thought she might be pregnant and even though she wanting to have a child with Peter, she didn't know if it was the right time. They were barely able to make ends meet as it was. She was afraid that they wouldn't be able to give their baby the kind of life it deserved.

She looked up as the doctor entered and smiled at her. She laid the National Geographic in her lap and looked up at him expectantly.

"Mrs. Parker, we've gotten the results back and you are pregnant."

He noticed Mary Jane was silent.

"I take it this was not a planned pregnancy." He said.

"No, it wasn't." Mary Jane said, wondering what Peter was going to say.

"You know there are other options. You are only three weeks pregnant. You can have an abortion if you want." The doctor said, gently

Mary Jane shook her head.

"No, that's not it. I do want this baby. I'm just hoping that we can afford it." She said.

The doctor patted her on the shoulder.

"I think everyone has that fear, Mrs. Parker and most couples do find ways to make ends meet. They find that the joy of having a child in the house more than makes up for the sacrifices they'll have to make."

Mary Jane nodded and smiled.

"I think you're right. I think Peter and I will be able to manage and I'm sure he wants a child as much as I do."

She rose and let herself be escorted by the doctor to the front desk. She paid the examination fee and thanking the doctor, she headed out the door towards work. She was so occupied in her thoughts, she didn't notice the door open and shut behind her. She walked to the bus stop and sat down on the bench waiting for the next bus to come. She stared out at the traffic as she thought about how Peter would react to the news. She wondered if he would be overjoyed or would he be upset that it was another mouth to feed when they could barely feed themselves. She sighed deeply.

"What's wrong? Aren't you glad you're going to have a baby?"

Mary Jane heard someone speaking beside her. She turned her head and looked around. She couldn't see anyone who would have been close enough to have spoken to her. She jumped as she heard the voice chuckle.

"What's wrong, Mary Jane? Am I freaking you out?"

"Who are you?" Mary Jane said, confused.

"Why...you don't remember me, Mrs. Parker? It was only a month ago I and my people were holding you and your husband hostage underground." Taran said.

Mary Jane's eyes widened in terror.

"Oh my God, it can't be." She said, softly."You're dead."

"Unfortunately for you and Parker, I'm not." He said, amused.

Mary Jane started to dash away from the bench. She gasped when she felt Taran's invisible hand grab her wrist and pull her back down.

"Sorry Mary Jane, but it's not going to be that easy." Taran said. "We have big plans for you and that baby, so I suggest you don't resist so your pregnancy doesn't end up in a miscarrage."

Mary Jane felt Taran pull on her wrist forcing her to stand. As soon as she was up, she felt him grab her other wrist and his body pressed in behind hers.

"Now move, Mrs. Parker. There are some people who are anxious to see you and Parker again." He said

Mary Jane felt him pushing her along and reluctantly, she let him guide her to wherever it was they were going.

*-----------------------------*-----------------------------*-----------------------------*

Part 5

Mary Jane walked quietly down the street. She was afraid to resist fearing that Taran could harm both her and the baby. As they walked, Mary Jane's eyes darted up occasionally as she searched the rooftops for Peter. She sighed softly as she saw no sign of him. She knew he went in different directions every day so that he could keep the city covered and not focus on any particular area. She hoped he had chosen the area where she and Taran were now, but apparently he hadn't.

*Wherever you are Peter, I hope you swing by here soon.* she thought to herself.

She imagined him swooping down and teaching Taran a lesson for kidnapping his wife again. She began to wonder if he would be able to tell where Taran was since he was invisible, but she supposed he could use his spider sense and home in on him. As Taran gave her a slight shove to get her to move faster, she wished that she had had the same ability just so she could have avoided him.

She gasped as Taran suddenly jerked on her wrists bringing her to a sudden halt.

"In here, to your right." He hissed in her ear.

Mary Jane looked to her right and saw they were next to an abandoned building, much like the one that she and Peter had fled from the day they had set fire to the hybrids lair. They went up the stairs and into the abandoned building. Mary Jane's eyes widened as she saw she was being led towards a trap door. She began to plant her feet trying to get away. She winced as Taran jerked one of her wrists.

"If you value you life and your babies life, you will do as I say. Got me?"

Mary Jane gulped and nodded.

"Good girl." Taran said.

Grabbing both wrists in one hand, Taran bent over and raised the trap door. After he had finished he let go of her wrists and shoved her towards the open hole.

"Get in!" he commanded.

Hoping against hope that she would see Peter, Mary Jane took a look out of the windows of the abandoned building before she reluctantly climbed down into the hybrids lair. She reached the bottom of the ladder and looked around. The corridor they were in looked the same as the other corridor that she and Peter had escaped from the last time. She wondered just how vast their lair really was. Obviously, it was big enough that the fire wasn't able to do much damage or else they had been rebuilding over the past month. She heard the trap door close and a small thud beside her. She winced as she felt Taran seize her wrist again and lead her down the corridor.

They walked until the came to a door at the end of a hallway. Taran opened the door and shoved Mary Jane to the ground. As Mary Jane heard the door lock, she looked around and noticed that she was in a room much like the one the kidnapped scientists had been in the last time she and Peter had been there. As he eyes adjusted to the dark, she made out one other person lying on the floor beside her. As she crawled over to him, he looked up at her with a blank stare. Mary Jane looked over his emaciated body and remembered how the scientists had looked. She guessed that they had been draining his blood in the same way they had drained the scientist's blood to keep them weak.

"Are you okay?" she asked him.

"I'm...so weak." He murmured "They've been making me work on some kind of serum."

"Serum?" Mary Jane asked, suddenly getting nervous." What kind of serum?"

"Serum...that mutates...people." The man gasped out. "They've been draining my blood...got weak...so they put me in here until I'm strong enough...to continue."

"Do you know what they are going to do with the serum?" Mary Jane asked, already dreading the answer.

"They said...revenge...mutate someone...get revenge on someone named...Parker."

Mary Jane gulped hard. She was afraid of that. She knew now she had to escape and warn Peter before Taran and the others could get to him. She had a feeling he was the one they were planning on mutating. Suddenly, Mary Jane heard a hissing sound and looking up, she realized that the room was flooding with gas. Panicking, she ran to the door and jiggled the door handle trying desperately to get out. As the gas filled the room, Mary Jane felt herself growing weak and she slumped to the floor.

She awoke a short time later and found herself strapped to a lab table in a room much like the one she and Peter had been in before when they had tried to make him work on that serum. Mary Jane looked over at Taran who was sneering at her. In his hands, she saw a syringe filled with a dark red liquid.

"What are you going to do to me?" she asked him.

"You are going to help us in our plans for revenge against your husband." He said, calmly.

"You must be out of your mind if you think I'm going to help you hurt Peter." She said.

"Ah, but you see. After this injection, you are going to be under our control and then you won't be able to object. And even if you could, I doubt if Parker would want you after the serum gets done mutating your body. You see my dear, there is going to be another Spider-Man in your family very soon. Or should I say...Spider-Woman."

Mary Jane's eyes widened as she watched Taran shove the syringe into her arm. As the red liquid emptied into her veins, Taran took out the syringe and stepped back watching with a grin as Mary Jane began to violently convulse in front of him.

"Ironic, isn't it. That the woman you love will prove to be the object of your destruction, Parker." He said with a chuckle.

Part 6

Peter sighed as he entered through the balcony door. It had been a long day and he was anxious to talk to Mary Jane and find out what the doctor had said.

"MJ, I'm home." He called out.

His brow furrowed as he heard only silence. He looked over at the alarm clock by their bed and noticed it was almost six thirty. Usually Mary Jane had gotten home by that time. He knew that she had left early to go to the clinic, but he wondered if maybe she had decided to go after she had gotten off of work instead. He walked downstairs and rummaged through the refrigerator trying to stop himself from worrying. He pulled out bologna and mayonnaise and grabbed the bread on the counter. Making himself a sandwich, he walked into the living room and turned on the TV to the nightly news. As he munched on the sandwich and listened to the newscaster read out the news, he heard a sound behind him. He turned and saw Mary Jane walk through the door. Peter breathed a sigh of relief.

"Oh, MJ. There you are. I was worried about you. You usually are home by now." He said, kissing her on the cheek.

"I'm sorry to have worried you, Peter." Mary Jane said in a dull voice.

Peter looked at her with concern in his eyes.

"Are you alright, sweetheart?" he said

Mary Jane nodded.

"I'm fine...I'm just tired." She said.

Peter nodded. He walked Mary Jane over the couch and sat down beside her. Peter smiled down at Mary Jane as she laid her head in his lap.

"What did the doctor say?" he asked, stroking her hair.

"Oh, I almost forgot. Um...Peter, he told me I'm pregnant." She said, looking up at him.

Peter stared at her. Slowly a smile began to spread across his face.

"You...are?" he said, happily. "Oh my God, MJ. That's fantastic. I'm so glad." He said, giving her a hug.

"You aren't mad?" she asked hesitantly

Peter furrowed his brow.

"No, should I be?" he asked.

"It's just that we don't have much money and I thought you would be upset that there would be another person to feed and take care of." She said.

Peter kissed her.

"MJ, For the longest time now. I've have been hoping and praying for a child. Someone who will share our love and our life. I know that money is tight, MJ. But we'll get by. This is one extra expense I won't mind having." He said.

"Oh Peter, I'm so happy to hear you say that. I've wanted a child for the longest time too. And you're right, we'll manage to get by. Our child will be worth all the struggle." She said, kissing him back.

Her brow furrowed.

"But..."

Peter looked at her.

"But?"

"If the baby has your genes, it's not going to be completely normal."

Peter nodded.

"True, but we'll help our baby to deal with those abilities if he or she inherits them. Besides, It might be fun having someone to go web slinging with when I get bored." He said with a wink.

"Oh, you mean I'm not good enough to go web slinging with you?" Mary Jane, said giving him a playful punch in the arm.

"Well, you do weigh me down especially when I have to carry you around. It's gotten worse since you've gotten addicted to the Hagen-Daas" Peter said, ducking his head and laughing as Mary Jane threw a punch.

"Thanks a lot, Peter." She said, sarcastically.

Laughing, they both settled back to watch TV.

____________________________________________________

"Are you sure this is going to work, Taran?"

Taran looked over at his right-hand man, Sarek.

"It will work, Sarek." He said. " Mary Jane has been given the hypnotic suggestion. At midnight tonight, she has been programmed to bring Parker to us. Then we will allow him to live long enough to see his child born. After he is gone, we will have Mary Jane and her baby under our control and through the baby we will be able to obtain more blood samples so that we can continue to make the mutating serum and rule the world. Once we are the rulers of the new spider race, I will marry Mary Jane myself and we will become king and queen."

"You...want to marry her?" Sarek asked, confused.

"Yes, Sarek. I may have been mutated but I'm still a human in many ways." He said. "I admire her. She is brave and she is beautiful. She would be a fitting consort for me. Besides, it would be a further torture for Parker if he knew that the love of his life was going to spend the rest of her days with someone like me." He said, chuckling. "I can't wait to see his face when he hears what's in store for her. Now come, we must prepare a room for Parker when he arrives."

*-----------------------------*-----------------------------*-----------------------------*

Part 7

Around ten, Peter and Mary Jane retired to the bedroom for the night. As Mary Jane slept beside him, Peter lay awake and thought about the baby that was going to be coming now. He secretly hoped it was a girl that was just as beautiful as Mary Jane. Someone he could spoil rotten. He pictured feeding and holding and kissing his little girl.

*I don't think I'll be ready for diaper changing though.* Peter thought. *I think I'd rather battle the Green Goblin then change a poopy diaper.*

Smiling to himself, he felt his eyes close and he slowly drifted off to sleep.

As he was dreaming of him and Mary Jane and the baby, he suddenly sensed some weight on his chest. He opened his eyes and noticed Mary Jane was lying on top of him. Peter stared at her eyes and noticed she was staring at him intensely. He glanced over at the clock and saw it read 12:01 a.m.

"Um...MJ? I'm pretty sure I know why you're on top of me, but shouldn't we wait until you don't have to get up to go to work?" he said.

"Why do I care about work when I can spend the night screwing you?" she purred seductively.

Peter raised his eyebrows as a goofy grin spread over his face.

"And I thought being Spider-Man would never bring me any perks." He said.

He frowned though as he began to feel his spider sense give out a low buzz in his head.

*Why the Hell would it be doing that?* he thought to himself. *MJ is the last person in the world who would want to hurt me.*

Still, he couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong and he knew his spider sense had never steered him wrong before.

"MJ...Are you sure you want to do this?" Peter asked hesitantly.

"Of course, my love. I want to make love to you. But not here."

Peter frowned.

"Not here?"

"I want to go out to a little place I know and do it. That way it'll feel like more of an adventure." Mary Jane said.

Peter stared at Mary Jane. The uneasiness and the buzzing in his head increasing by the moment. Something just didn't feel right and he couldn't put his finger on it. Something inside of him was telling him not to trust Mary Jane.

"Um...Actually MJ. I'd rather just stay here. I'm not in the mood to go web slinging anywhere at this hour." Peter said.

His eyes widened as he saw Mary Jane's features hardened for one brief moment before she smiled again.

"Aw...Please Tiger? I know a really great place where just the two of us can be alone." She said, seductively.

Peter shook his head.

"I'm sorry, MJ. But, the answer is no. I'm too tired. I had a rough day yesterday and I really need to get some sleep and get my strength back."

"But I want to." Mary Jane said, a little too forcefully.

Peter was taken aback and narrowed his eyes suspiciously. Mary Jane cleared her throat.

"I mean...It would really mean a lot to me if you would do this." She said quietly.

Peter shook his head. He felt the buzzing in his head increase as Mary Jane sighed.

"Peter, please. Just this once." She begged.

Peter sighed.

"Why MJ? Why is it so important that we go tonight to this place of yours and make love."

"Because it's a nice, romantic, place Peter and I want to share it with you." Mary Jane said, annoyed.

"Sorry MJ. My patience has run out. I'm not in the mood and that's final. Now good night." Peter said, shutting his eyes.

Suddenly his eyes snapped open as his spider sense screamed in his head. He looked over and his eyes widened as he stared into Mary Jane's eyes. Where a moment ago, they had been a sky blue color now there was nothing but black, almost as if Mary Jane's eyes had been ripped out and there was only empty sockets. Peter gulped as he tried to scoot over to the far side of the bed, but Mary Jane grabbed his shoulders.

"You will come with me, Peter Parker and you will not resist." She said, in a deep sinister voice.

"MJ, what's wrong with you?" Peter asked.

"There is nothing wrong with me, Peter. In fact, thanks to Taran, I have been transformed into a superior being. My child and I are no longer weak, inferior, humans. Now we have been blessed like you with strength and agility."

Peter's eyes widened and his blood froze as he heard Mary Jane utter the word "Taran". He had hoped that the fire had gotten rid of him and the other hybrids. He yelped as Mary Jane suddenly pulled him to his feet. He suddenly realized that she was just as strong as he was now, maybe even stronger.

"MJ, I don't know what that bastard did to you. But you have to fight it." Peter said, jerking his arm away from Mary Jane's grasp.

"Why do I want to fight it, Peter? I've never felt better." Mary Jane said, in a deep voice. "Taran has given me this wonderful gift and very soon, I will become his queen."

Peter froze. He felt the anger welling up within him. He started to realize why Taran had did this to her. He just hoped he would be able to talk some sense into her until he could figure out a way to help her. He laid a hand on the side of her cheek.

"MJ" he said, lovingly. "Honey, listen. You don't know what you're saying. Taran doesn't love you. He's only doing this to torture me. You've got to fight this. You've got to let me help you."

"NO! I don't want your help, Peter! I want you to come with me! Taran has told me to bring you to him." Mary Jane said, hitting away Peter's arm.

Peter gritted his teeth and grabbed both of Mary Jane's shoulders forcefully. He was going to make her see reason if it was the last thing he'd ever do.

*Which considering how strong MJ is now, it just might be.* Peter thought.

Mary Jane's eyes narrowed in hate. Suddenly, she pushed Peter directly in the chest as hard as she could. Peter slammed into the wall with a sickening thud. Peter gulped in air as the wind was knocked from his lungs.

"MJ, I don't want to hurt you." He said.

"I know. And that's why I have the advantage." Mary Jane said with a smirk. "Because I have no qualms about hurting you."

She threw a punch as Peter ducked to get out of the way. Mary Jane's fist went through the wall with a loud bang as Peter stared at her in shock. He figured that Taran had hypnotized Mary Jane when he had transformed her. It seemed the only explanation for her erratic behavior.

"MJ, please stop. What if you hurt our baby?" he said, pointing to Mary Jane's stomach.

Mary Jane smirked.

"If I were you, I'd worry about yourself getting hurt and not the baby." She said.

She lunged at Peter. Peter leaped up and grabbed the ceiling. He looked down at Mary Jane who was staring up at him hatefully.

"What's wrong, MJ? Don't your fantastic new powers include sticking to walls?" Peter asked, mockingly. "Apparently, Taran isn't as great as you thought he was."

He watched as Mary Jane rushed to the bed and climbed onto it. She hovered on the edge before taking a big leap out and trying to grab hold of Peter. Peter quickly glided his way over farther from the bed, just in case Mary Jane could reach him. As she landed on the floor and stared up at him, Peter shook his head sadly. The whole scene would have been laughable if Mary Jane hadn't been under Taran's Power.

"Mary Jane, please listen to me. Taran has you hypnotized, I think. You don't know what you're doing. Let me help you, honey. I love you."

For a moment, hope swelled in Peter's heart as he saw Mary Jane's expression soften and her eyes mist over. A moment later however, her hardened expression returned. Suddenly, Mary Jane darted to the balcony doors and turned and looked up at Peter.

"I'm giving up now, but that doesn't mean you aren't safe, Peter Parker. I'll get you when you least expect it."

*That's doubtful since I'll be able to detect you with my spider sense.* Peter thought.

As Mary Jane turned to leave, Peter suddenly noticed his utility belt out of the corner of his eye. As Mary Jane opened the balcony doors, Peter dropped down silently and inched over to his belt. He reached into one of the pockets and pulled out a spider tracer. As Mary Jane ran out onto the balcony, Peter pushed down on the spider tracer, activating it, and threw it at Mary Jane. It caught on the back of her nightgown and stuck there, just as she jumped off the balcony into the night. Peter waited a moment before picking up the homing device and turning it on. He smiled as he saw a little white dot moving across the screen.

"Don't worry, MJ. I'll save you. But first I need to get some help from a certain someone."

*-----------------------------*-----------------------------*-----------------------------*

Part 8

"Well, where is he?"

Mary Jane stared at Taran who was waiting at the ladder leading down into the lair.

"I didn't get him, master." Mary Jane said, in a dull voice.

Taran raised his eyebrows.

"And why not?" he asked.

"He was too quick for me. I wasn't able to hold him long enough to catch him." Mary Jane said.

"Is that it or did you intentionally let him go?"

Mary Jane stared at him blankly.

"I...don't know master." She said.

Taran sighed deeply.

"Return to your cell." He said, angrily

"Yes, master." Mary Jane said.

Taran walked along behind Mary Jane as she headed towards the cell. He watched as she opened the door and went inside. As soon as she shut the door, he locked it. Grumbling to himself, he started back down the cooridor to the lab.

"You should have known better."

Taran stared at Sarek as both of them stood together in the lab.

"What is that supposed to mean?" Taran said, defensively.

"You should have known she would never go through with it. Her bond with Parker is strong. It's Stronger than any hypnotic suggestion. Parker must have been able to get through to her and that's why she gave up trying to kidnap him."

Taran stared at him.

"And I suppose you knew it all along."

Sarek shrugged.

"I had a pretty good feeling she wouldn't succeed."

"And yet you went along with it." Taran said, jabbing his finger accusingly at Sarek's chest.

Sarek snorted.

"I really didn't have much of a choice. I figured the moment I protested I would be thrown into that pit with the rejects." He said, sarcastically.

*That's probably true.* Taran thought to himself.

However, to avoid confrontation, he didn't voice that thought aloud.

"Mary Jane is going to recover in about another hour. I don't know if we'll be able to put her under again. If what you say is true, she might be able to resist the next time. We'll either have to set a trap with her as bait or just go after Parker ourselves. Either way, I don't want any foul ups the next time. Especially since Parker is probably wise to us now. We can't afford to make any more mistakes.

____________________________________________________

Peter landed gently on the side of Empire State University's science department. It was almost 2 in the morning now, but he was pretty sure that Doctor Connors was still in his lab. He often worked late into the night on his projects. Peter didn't know how he was able to do it and still teach classes. He paused for a moment and checked the homing device. He saw that the white dot was not moving anymore. Peter hoped wherever Mary Jane was at, she would stay there long enough for him to come after her. He put the homing device back in his utility belt and looked around to make sure all was clear. Satisfied that no one was around, Peter silently dropped in front of the double doors and went inside. He sprinted quickly along the corridors towards Doctor Connors laboratory hoping that he wouldn't run into anyone on the way.

Doctor Connors sat quietly in his laboratory jotting down notes in his journal. He knew he shouldn't have stayed late tonight. His wife, Margaret, was already upset that he was spending too much time in the lab and not enough time with her and their son, Billy. He ended up having to explain to her repeatedly that all the time he was spending in the lab was for the good of humanity.

"Curt, can't you take a day off from your experiments. Humanity is not going to go anywhere." She had said to him.

"Margaret, believe me. I would love to spend more time with you and Billy. But I am the verge of success. My neogenic recombinator will be a boon to the human race. People will be able to regrow missing limbs. I'm only trying to help people, Margaret."

"And myself as well." He said to himself, as he touched the stub where his right arm had once been.

He jerked his head up as he heard a coughing sound above him.

"I've heard about you!" he said. "You're that Spider-Man. What are you doing in my lab?"

"Easy, Doc." Peter said, jumping down off the ceiling. "I'm not going to hurt you. I need your help. I have a friend in trouble."

"If you have a friend in trouble, Spider-Man, might I suggest going to the police? I'm only a scientist."

"That's why I came to see you, Doc. You are one of the leading specialists in DNA research and Mutagenics. My friend...she's been mutated."

Doctor Connors stared at Peter in shock.

"Mutated?" he said, in disbelief. "Into what?"

"Um...a spider, I think."

Doctor Connors raised his eyebrows.

"Any idea how she got that way?" he asked.

Peter snorted.

"It was a man that had been also mutated into a spider that I had recently fought with and thought that I had defeated. Apparently, he kidnapped my friend and mutated her. Then he hypnotized her into coming after me in revenge for what I had done to him."

"That's incredible, Spider-Man. But...what do you want with me?"

"I was wondering if you had something that could change my friend back to her human form?" Peter said, hopefully.

Doctor Connors nodded.

"I think I might be able to make an antidote to the mutation. I'll see what I can do."

"Thanks Doc. I appreciate it." Peter said, sincerely.

He had always admired Doctor Connors. He was one of his students and he knew that the man was a genius. He had even tried to take a job helping out with his experiments. Doctor Connors reluctantly fired him though when he was late too many times after trying to balance his job and fighting crime.

"I'll be back later tonight and see if you're finished, if that's okay." He said.

Doctor Connors nodded.

"That's fine, Spider-Man. Hopefully, I'll be able to have what you need when you return."

"I hope so too, Doc." Peter said. "For her sake."

*-----------------------------*-----------------------------*-----------------------------*

Part 9

Mary Jane blinked. She felt as though a fog was being lifted from her brain. She looked around and saw that she was sitting on the floor of her cell. The kidnapped scientist was sleeping a few feet away from her. She sat for a moment trying to remember what had happened and then it suddenly dawned on her.

"Oh my God, Peter." She said to herself. "I attacked Peter."

She was glad she had not been able to harm him, but she wondered if her failure meant they would send her on another attempt to get him.

*I'm not going to go through with it.* she thought. *I'm not going to betray Peter. They'll just have to torture and kill me. I'm not going to do their bidding any more.*

Suddenly, Mary Jane gasped as she felt a sharp pain on both sides of her chest. She cried out in agony and rolled on the floor praying to God to make the pain cease. After a moment, the pain died down and Mary Jane lay gasping on the floor as the scientist stared at her blankly.

*What happened?* she thought to herself. *They must be reading my mind and did that to punish me. Well, if they think I'm going to cave in and do as they say, they have another thing coming!*

She looked up as the cell door opened and Taran entered. He smirked as Mary Jane narrowed her eyes in hate.

"What's wrong my dear? You look angry!" Taran said with a smirk.

"I swear to God, I'm gonna kill you for what you almost made me do to Peter." Mary Jane hissed. "You better not try hypnotizing me again or you'll be sorry."

Taran raised his eyebrows as he chuckled to himself.

"Quite a little spitfire, aren't you? I wouldn't be so confident if I were you."

Taran gasped as Mary Jane suddenly lunged at him.

"I wouldn't be so confident either, buster!" she screamed.

Taran tried to fight Mary Jane as she started attacking him. As he tried to block her punches, he suddenly realized that maybe they had succeeded in making Mary Jane too strong. He opened his mouth to scream for help, but Mary Jane punched him in the mouth. As Taran slumped to the floor unconscious, Mary Jane ran to the scientist and hoisted him onto her shoulders. Then, as quickly as she could, she ran out the door back towards the ladder and freedom.

Peter sighed as he checked his watch. It was almost 4 a.m. now. He didn't know if he had the patience to wait a whole day for Doctor Connors to come up with a solution. He decided to go and find Mary Jane and bring her to Doctor Connors lab. That way he knew she

would be safe. He reached into his utility belt and found his tracking device. As he studied the monitor, his eyes widened as he noticed the white dot rapidly moving across the screen.

"As fast as It's going, that must mean she's running." Peter said to himself.

He fired out a web strand and began to home in on the dot's area.

"Hold on, MJ. I'm coming." He said.

Mary Jane paused to catch her breath. She was surprised at how strong she was now, but even that strength apparently had it's limits. She also felt the pain starting to return in her chest and she knew that if she had another attack, there would be a chance that the hybrids would catch up to her before she could recover. She had avoided them so far, mostly from determining their positions from the sound of their voices. But, she figured that her luck would run out soon if she didn't find the exit. She began to run again trying to outrun the pain as it began to get more intense.

*Oh God, What have these bastards done to me?* she thought. *I feel as though my insides are going to burst out any moment.*

She wished with all her heart that Peter would appear at her side at that moment so he could pick her up and carry her. She felt as though her legs were going to turn to jelly.

Suddenly, as she rounded a corner, she came face to face with a hybrid who was coming the other way. As the hybrid stared at Mary Jane in shock, she took advantage of the situation and kicked him as hard as she could in the balls. As the hybrid fell to his knees, Mary Jane summoned all her strength and kicked him as hard as she could right between the eyes. The hybrid flew back and landed with a smack on the floor. Mary Jane stared at his unconscious form.

"I'm beginning to like having these powers." She said

Another sharp pain made her wince.

"Then again..." she muttered.

She willed herself to go on despite the pain in her sides and her legs.

"Come on, ladder, where are you?"

Suddenly, Mary Jane turned a corner and saw the ladder. She breathed a sigh of relief as she made her way to it.

____________________________________________________

Peter dropped down outside an abandoned building. He checked the tracking device and looked up at the rotting door.

"Why do I get the feeling there's going to be a trapdoor located somewhere in the premises." He said sarcastically.

He looked back down at the white dot and saw that it was almost right under the building. Peter crouched down and leaped up towards the door, hitting it as hard as he could with his shoulder. The door gave way and Peter stood in the empty building. He checked the tracking device and saw that the white dot was now stationary and only a few feet away from him. He began to walk towards it as he kept his eyes on the screen. Entering the next room, he looked up and saw the outline of a trapdoor in the floor. Snorting, he walked over and shot out a web strand in the middle of the trapdoor. Pulling on the web strand, he raised the trapdoor and heard a gasp. He grabbed the trapdoor and bent over. He grinned as he saw Mary Jane staring up at him.

"Hey, MJ." He said.

"Oh God, Peter. I'm so glad it's you. I'm so tired and my chest hurts." Mary Jane said.

Peter stared at the unconscious scientist slung over Mary Jane's shoulder.

"I bet your chest hurts after lugging him around." He said, as he lowered the trapdoor back onto the floor.

"No, that's not why. They did something to me, Peter. It feels like I'm being torn apart inside."

She watched as Peter paused for a moment after lifting the scientist off of her shoulders. Even though he was wearing his mask, Mary Jane knew that Peter was enraged.

"How bad is it, MJ?" Peter said, between gritted teeth.

"It comes and goes, Peter. But each time, the pain gets more and more intense." She said.

"We better get you outta here then, MJ. I have a friend of mine who's going to try to help you return to normal. I'll take you to his lab. You'll be safe there while I deal with Taran and his hybrids." Peter said.

He shifted the scientist onto his shoulder and reached down for Mary Jane. Grabbing her hand, he lifted her up to him and grabbed her around the waist as Mary Jane encircled her arms around his neck. He stood up and walked around to the trapdoor. Using his foot, he maneuvered it under the trapdoor and gave it a kick up. Once the hole had been closed, Peter shot out some sticky webbing around the edges, sealing the trapdoor.

"This webbing will only last for about an hour or so, but it should be enough time for us to get out of here and back to the lab." Peter said. "I just hope Doc Connors can find some way to reverse what they have done to you."

Peter fired some sticky webbing onto his shoulder securing the scientist. He and Mary Jane quickly headed out the door. They headed out to the street and Peter prepared to shoot out a web strand.

"Peter?"

Peter turned his head and looked at Mary Jane.

"Yeah?"

"I'm so sorry for what I did last night, Tiger. I didn't want to do it." She said, sadly.

Peter gave Mary Jane a gentle squeeze.

"I know, hon. I know you weren't in your right mind. Don't worry about it, okay? I'm not angry."

Mary Jane smiled.

"Thanks Tiger, for understanding."

She pulled up Peter's mask and gave him a quick kiss before pulling it back down again.

"Ah, thanks. I needed that." Peter said.

As Mary Jane giggled, Peter shot out a strand and headed off towards the laboratory.

*-----------------------------*-----------------------------*-----------------------------*

Part 10

Peter was glad when he finally reached the lab. Mary Jane had been in agony almost the whole time. The attacks were growing worse and worse and Peter felt helpless as he heard Mary Jane crying out and telling him that she felt as though something was trying to break out of her skin. He prayed that Doctor Connors had found something. He swung down and hurried inside and down the hall, carrying Mary Jane so that they could get there faster. Judging from her moans, he doubted she was in any condition to walk anyway. After a minute, they neared the lab door.

"Don't worry, MJ. If anyone can help you, it's Doc Connors. He's a brilliant scientist." Peter said, trying to sound calmer than he felt.

Mary Jane nodded, in too much pain to speak. Peter opened the door and peeked in.

"Doc? You here?" he asked.

His eyes widened as he saw Doctor Connors standing in the corner of the lab. The neogenic recombinator he had shown Peter earlier was now positioned above the Doctor and a laser beam was shooting down from it, bathing the Doctor in a rainbow colored light. Peter opened the door wider and he and Mary Jane stood and stared in disbelief. After a moment, the light faded and Doctor Connors turned around staring at his stub.

"Um...Doc? Are you okay?" Peter asked.

Doctor Connors looked at Peter, startled.

"Oh! I didn't expect you back so soon. I was conducting an experiment with the recombinator."

"On yourself?" Peter asked, concerned.

"Certainly. I just couldn't wait any longer. I wanted to see if it would grow..." Doctor Connors paused and motioned to Peter. "Look Spider-Man, It's happening!"

Peter held Mary Jane to him and walked over to Doctor Connors. He stared in amazement as he saw the pinned-up sleeve on his lab coat suddenly drop down and a hand emerge from it.

"I did it!" Doctor Connors screamed as he rolled up the sleeve. "It restored my arm! Oh how I've hoped and prayed for this day."

Peter and Mary Jane looked at each other in disbelief. Peter looked at Doctor Connors who was flexing his fingers with a gleeful smile.

"But, how?" Peter asked, dumbfounded.

"Ah, Reptile DNA, Spider-Man. Reptiles are able to re-grow lost limbs. I simply gave myself a shot of a special serum made from reptile DNA and bonded the DNA with my own using the recombinator here. And see, my theory was correct. I was able to re-grow my arm."

"Um...That's great, Doc. But, I hope you know what you're doing." Peter said. "Are you sure there aren't any side-effects you might not be aware of?"

"I'm pretty sure, Spider-Man. I've tried this on a few mice who had lost limbs and they had re-grown the limbs with no ill effects." Doctor Connors looked at Mary Jane who was moaning softly. "Is this your friend?" he asked.

"Yes, Doc. This is Mary Jane."

Doctor Connors looked at the scientist.

"What about him?" he said, pointing to him.

"Um, he was with Mary Jane when I found her." Peter said, glancing over at Mary Jane.

Mary Jane swallowed.

"I think they've been draining him of his blood...I don't think he's been mutated." She said, through clenched teeth.

"Do you think he could rest here and regain his strength, Doc?" Peter asked.

Doctor Connors nodded.

"I have two spare beds in a back room. He can have one and Mary Jane can have the other."

Doctor Connors beckoned Peter to follow him to the room.

"Do you have any ideas about how to help Mary Jane?" Peter asked.

Doctor Connors pointed to the recombinator.

"I think I might be able to reverse the recombinator so that it separates two DNA rather than combine them. Once that is done, than the foreign DNA will simply die out in her body. It'll take a little time, but I think I can do it." He said as he opened the door to the back room.

Peter flinched as Mary Jane let out an agonizing scream.

"Um...Any idea how long it'll take Doc? I don't think time is on our side here."

Doctor Connors nodded.

"It shouldn't take too long. Since I invented the recombinator, I know pretty much what to do to put it in reverse." He watched as Peter gently lowered Mary Jane onto one of the beds. "Is there any particular place where it hurts, Mary Jane? "

"Oh God, my sides!" Mary Jane cried out.

Peter was glad he had the mask on, because he could feel the tears streaming down his face. As Doctor Connors began to pull up her shirt, Mary Jane reached out and grabbed Peter's hand. Peter gritted his teeth at her iron grip, but he said nothing. Instead, he reached out with his other hand and stroked her arm trying as much as he could to comfort her.

"You're right, Spider-Man. We don't have much time left. Look."

Peter looked down and his face turned white as he noticed two huge bulges below Mary Jane's breasts, a pair on each side.

*I'm gonna get you for this, Taran.* he thought angrily.

He grabbed Mary Jane's arm as she let out another scream.

"I'm going to give her a sedative." Doctor Connors said. "Stay with her, I'll be right back."

As Doctor Connors left the room, Peter quickly pulled his mask up to his nose and kissed her on the cheek.

"Don't worry, MJ. You're in good hands." He said, softly.

"Peter, whatever happens to me, I love you." Mary Jane whispered back.

"Ditto." Peter said, giving her another kiss.

He heard Doctor Connors coming back and quickly pulled his mask back down. He watched as Doctor Connors gently flicked the side of a syringe filled with a clear liquid.

"This is morphine. Hopefully, It'll last until I fix the recombinator."

Peter squeezed Mary Jane's hand as Doctor Connors stuck the needle in her shoulder. As the liquid drained into her body, Peter silently prayed that it would ease the pain.

After a moment, Mary Jane's breathing began to slow and her moaning quietly as she fell asleep. Peter gently lowered her hand on her stomach and gave her a lingering glance before turning to Doctor Connors.

"I'll try to be back as soon as I can." He said as he reached into his utility belt and pulled out a spider tracer. "Here, take this. It's a homing device. If there is any trouble, press on it like a button and a blip will show up on my homing device. I'll know to come and assist you. In the meantime, I need to go after the person who did this to her"

Doctor Connors took the tracer and nodded.

"I will, Spider-Man and good luck." He said.

Peter cast one more glance down at Mary Jane resisting the urge to hug her in front of Doctor Connors. He willed himself to go out the door and away from her. He walked to the lab door and looked out making sure no one was around before quickly running out into the hallway. As he shut the door, he didn't notice Doctor Connors behind him staring down at his re-grown arm with a confused look on his face.

Part 11

Peter sighed as he landed on the balcony next to the bedroom. He knew time was of the essence, but he hadn't eaten anything since yesterday and he knew he had to keep his strength up, especially if he was going to have to face Taran and the Hybrids again. He ran downstairs and into the kitchen. He quickly pulled out some sandwich stuff and began to fix a small sandwich that he could eat quickly. As he finished the sandwich, he poured himself a small glass of milk and put everything back in the fridge. He turned and leaned on the kitchen counter trying to eat as fast as he could without choking. As he took a gulp of milk, his eyes settled on the answering machine and he noticed the message light was flashing. Munching on the sandwich, he walked over, set down the milk beside the answering machine, and pushed the play button.

He nearly choked when he heard Enrique's voice booming from the speaker.

"MRS. PARKER! YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO BE HERE AN HOUR AGO! THAT'S IT, GIRLIE. YOU CAN FIND YOURSELF ANOTHER JOB. YOU'RE FIRED!"

Peter sighed.

"Wonderful, as if MJ and I don't have enough problems." He muttered.

As the tape rewound, he drank his milk and thought of just how Mary Jane was going to react to the news, especially since she was so worried about having a child to begin with.

"I guess the first priority right now though, is to make sure Mary Jane is cured so she'll be around to look for another job." He said to himself.

"Yes, where is Mary Jane?"

Peter spider sense kicked in just as Taran's voice echoed in the room. He looked over at the empty space where his spider sense was indicating Taran was and glared. Taran laughed.

"I have to admit that precognition does come in handy for you, Parker. It makes me wish I had it or had a way to block it. But then again, there is strength in numbers, isn't there?"

At that moment, Peter's spider sense began going crazy as he detected other hybrids surrounding the apartment.

"Where is Mary Jane?"

Peter snorted.

"If you think I'm gonna tell you and let you get your hairy hands on her again, you have another thing coming!"

Taran chuckled.

"What's wrong, Parker? Can't deal with the image of your precious Mary Jane in my arms? I think she'd be better suited to me now anyway, especially after all the changes she's going through."

Peter gritted his teeth. He couldn't stand it anymore. He trusted his spider sense and leapt out at Taran. He sensed Taran move at the last moment, but as he hit the floor, he reached out again with his spider sense and hit Taran in the small of the back. As he heard Taran let out a pained yell, he smirked at him.

"Yes, that spider sense does come in handy for me." He said.

He felt his spider sense screaming at him and he rolled away just as he heard the sound of Taran's fist hitting the floor where he had been. He quickly kicked himself into a standing position and lunged himself at the kitchen counter. Grabbing his mask, he quickly shoved it on as he sensed Taran coming towards him.

"Aw, what's wrong, Parker? Afraid if you get outside someone might notice you?" Taran taunted.

Peter aimed in the direction his spider sense was pointing out and hit Taran in the jaw. As he heard him hit the floor again, he smiled.

"No, I just don't want any blood getting in my eyes as I'm kicking your ass." He said.

He looked over at the balcony. He knew there were other hybrids laying in wait for him just outside, but he couldn't stay in the apartment. He needed space to move around and he wasn't about to let the apartment get destroyed. Especially, after the amount of rent they paid for it. Reaching out with his spider sense, he leapt past Taran and out onto the balcony. As soon as he reached the railing, he sensed other hybrids beginning to close in. He reached out with his spider sense and noticed that they were all beginning to form a cluster as they got nearer. Praying it would work, Peter shot out a web line and swung out just as he felt one leaping across towards him. At the last moment, he swung his feet out in front of him and kicked him hard in the chest. Peter smiled as he heard the hybrid knocking into several others like a bowling ball hitting the pins. His smile widened as he heard disembodied voices cursing at him.

"Next time look before you leap" He called out.

As he shot out another web line to avoid landing in their midst, he suddenly heard a small beeping sound. He reached into his utility belt with one hand and noticed that the spider tracer he had given Doctor Connors was now activated.

"Oh, just perfect." Peter mumbled. "Now how do I get back to Doc Connors without bringing twenty or thirty hybrids with me?"

Suddenly, he remembered what Doctor Connors had told him about the recombinator being able to separate DNA.

"Hmmm" Peter said to himself. "What if I let them follow me? Maybe if that recombinator can change Mary Jane back into a human, it can do the same for these bozos as well."

He wondered if it was the right thing to do to lead them to Mary Jane and Doc Connors, but he couldn't see any way of shaking all of them long enough for him to get away. Hoping he wasn't making a decision, he was going to regret, He started to swing towards Empire State University as fast as he could trying to put at least some distance between him and the hybrids so he'd at least have some time to ready the recombinator.

"I just hope the Doc got it reversed." He said.

After about twenty minutes, he finally reached the Science building. He had tried to go as fast as he could and he could feel his arms aching, but at the moment, he didn't care. He figured the hybrids were about ten minutes behind him, he wondered if the distance he had put between himself and them would discourage them, but somehow, he doubted it. He knew that Taran was wanting Mary Jane back and he was going to stop at nothing this time to get her. He hurried into the building and leaped up onto the ceiling. As he crawled along, he hope that the students wouldn't notice him, but the ones he passed by were either talking to other students or were absorbed in their textbooks, so he managed to make it to Doc Connors lab unobserved. As he reached the door, he quickly jumped down in front of it. Opening the door a crack, he cautiously looked in, readying himself for anything. His eyes widened as he saw the lab in disarray. Opening the door further, he stepped inside. He hurried to the recombinator, praying that it hadn't been damaged too. He breathed a sigh of relief hen he noticed that it looked intact and there was a small note attached to the side of it. He took the note off and read it...

Spider-Man,

I've finished reversing the recombinator. I've included instructions below on how to operate it and restore Mary Jane to her human form. I'm sorry, but I don't know if I'll be able to assist you. I'm not feeling quite right. I think something is wrong with me.

Doctor Connors

Peter's brow furrowed. He wondered what Doctor Connors meant by..."Not quite right". He hoped he was okay. He laid the note on top of the recombinator and went into the next room to check on Mary Jane. He found the door ajar and opened it slowly. He looked in and saw only the scientist lying quietly in his bed. He swung his head from left to right trying to see if Mary Jane was in the room. He frowned as he noticed she was gone.

"Great. Just great." He muttered. "Now, where is she? Did she leave with Doc Connors? Sheesh, what else is gonna happen to me today?"

Peter jerked his head around as he heard a noise and his spider sense was triggered. His eyes widened as he saw a huge green lizard-like creature emerge from behind a lab table. The creature stared at Peter and began to growl menacingly. Peter sighed.

"And the heavens parted and God looked down and said...I hate you, Peter Parker." He said to himself.

*-----------------------------*-----------------------------*-----------------------------*

Part 12

Peter stared at the lizard creature crouched on the lab table.

"Um, didn't I see you in a Godzilla movie?" he asked. "And...nice lab coat. I'm sure the Doc will be happy to know a 6 foot tall lizard is raiding his closet."

"You think you're funny, don't you Spider-Man?" The Lizard said in a deep gruff voice.

Peter rolled his eyes.

"Talking lizards, Talking spiders, I suppose chairs are gonna be asking me not to sit on them next." He muttered. "Listen, you didn't happen to see a scientist or a mutating girl anywhere around here, did ya? It's really important...see, I have a bunch of angry hybrid spiders coming this way and I really need the girl here so I can prevent her from becoming one of them and I need the scientist to help me. Now suppose you tell me where they've gone before I make a handbag outta you."

With a roar, The Lizard leapt off the table towards Peter. Peter dodged and rolled under him as The Lizard landed on all fours behind him. Peter stood up and stared at him.

"Oh crikey, this lizard's pissed off boys and girls. Danger, danger, danger!" Peter said, imitating the Crocodile Hunter.

Executing a flip, Peter sailed over the recombinator and grabbed the instructions on top of it. As he landed, he tucked them into his utility belt.

"Don't want this to get shredded." He said. "Especially since it looks like we're about to have a major fight on our hands."

He calculated it was only a few minutes more before the hybrids reached the campus. He wondered if they were able to keep track of him enough to know that he had gone into the science building. He had no idea how good their eyesight was.

Suddenly, his spider sense screamed in his head. He looked up and saw The Lizard making a dive towards him. Peter did another roll and as The Lizard landed beside him, he grabbed him by his tail and began to swing him around in a circle over his head. As the Lizard roared in rage, Peter swung him faster and faster until he was just a blur.

"Swing your partner round and round, now throw that Lizard to the ground." He sang as he suddenly slammed The Lizard to the floor.

As the Lizard shook his head trying to regain his equilibrium, Peter jumped over him and ran towards the recombinator.

"Awwwwwwww, did the big, bad, alligator get a boo boo?" he yelled out.

Reaching the recombinator, he pulled out the instructions.

"I need a test of this machine and I'm willing to bet dollars to donuts it'll work on you." He said, as he quickly studied the instructions.

Suddenly his spider sense kicked in. Peter quickly shoved the instructions back into his utility belt and dodged to one side as The Lizard landed beside him, but he was knocked back as The Lizard whirled around and smacked his tail into Peter's mouth.

"Gee" he said, rubbing his jaw. "And here I was saying to myself, that the hybrids weren't giving me enough of a challenge."

Peter leapt to his feet as The Lizard positioned between him and the recombinator.

"You aren't going to get anywhere near this recombinator, Spider-Man." The Lizard growled. "I need it!"

"Listen here, Puff the Magic Dragon, I need that recombinator a lot more than you do. I suggest you get out of the way before I put you on the endangered species list."

The Lizard hunched down on all fours and growled menacingly.

"Try it, Spider-Man. I have the abilities of all The Lizards on earth combined. I'm more than a match for you, you puny arachnid."

Peter suddenly heard terrified screams echoing down the hall as his spider sense became even more insistent in his head.

"Maybe so, Gatoraide, but are you a match for about thirty puny arachnids?" he said, pointing to the door.

As The Lizard turned his head in confusion, Peter seized the opportunity and jumped as hard as he could on his head. As The Lizard howled in pain and held his head, Peter jumped over him and bounded towards the door. Praying that Mary Jane wasn't in the lab hiding somewhere, he stuck his head out the door and called out in the direction of the screams.

"Yooooooo-hooooooooo. Oh boys! Back here! I have a little surprise for you!" he cried out in a sing-song voice.

He smirked as he heard Taran shriek out

"He's over there! Get him!"

Peter chuckled to himself as he turned and hopped straight up and stuck just above the doorway. As he hunched down, he put his hands behind his head as he stared at The Lizard who was looking from the door to Peter and back with a confused look on his face.

"Company's comin' Lizzy." He said, with a grin. "I want you to meet my friends. I'm sure they'll be just thrilled to meet you!"

He looked down as he saw the hybrids coming through the doorway. All of a sudden, they stopped and gave out a collective gasp as The Lizard began to growl at them.

"Taran, Boys. Meet my new playmate. I thought you ought to get to know each other." Peter said, in amusement.

As They turned and looked up at him with hate, Peter chuckled.

"Oh, what? You can ambush me, but I can't ambush you?" he said with mock hurt. "Actually, I was really wanting to take you down myself, but then the green meanie showed up and since MJ is missing, I figure he can take my place while I go look for her. I hope you

don't mind."

Taran opened his mouth to say something, but at that moment The Lizard gave a roar and sprung at the hybrids. The hybrids let out a collective scream and scattered as The Lizard landed in their midst. Peter shot out a web line as he began to chase them around the lab. He swung over to the next room and quickly grabbed the scientist.

"Um, I don't think it's safe for you to rest here any more." He said as he hoisted him up onto his shoulder and affixed him there with sticky webbing. He stood in the doorway, watching the hybrids trying to fight off The Lizard.

"Too bad Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom isn't still on TV. I bet they'd pay a fortune for footage like this. Hmmmm...Speaking of footage." Peter reached into his utility belt and pulled out a mini camera." Might as well earn a few bucks while I'm here too, especially since MJ is out of a job." He aimed his camera at the fight. "Say...This usually only happens in comic books!" he said, as he took a picture. He snapped one more before putting the camera back into the belt. "Okay, let's go see if I can locate my pregnant wife, shall we?"

He stared at the recombinator.

"Hmmm, should I zap everyone now?" he said aloud.

He stared at the battle royal before him.

"Nah, I'll wait. These hybrids need to be taught a lesson first."

He fired a web line and swung over to the recombinator. Reaching down with his free hand, he hoisted the recombinator off it's tripod and secured it under his arm.

"So this won't get damaged." He said. "And besides, I'll be able to zap MJ before I come back here to the ESU zoo and take care of everyone else."

He made sure the recombinator was under his arm. Kicking his legs, he got the web stand to swing back and forth like a pendulum. After a moment, he kicked up and let go of the strand. Firing out another, he swung over to the door and turned around.

"Well, see ya in a little while. Don't blow up the lab while I'm gone."

"You won't get away so easily, Parker!" Taran yelled out.

"You have a warped idea of what easy is." Peter said. He smirked as he saw The Lizard lunging for Taran. "Ooooops, enraged mutant lizard at ten o'clock." He called out.

As The Lizard knocked Taran off his feet, Peter shrugged.

"Well, guess I am going to get away so easy." He said.

He stepped through the door and quickly shut it as he saw a couple of hybrids lunge for him. Holding the doorknob with one hand, he sat down the recombinator and shot sticky webbing up and down the edge of the door, layering it on thick so he was sure the hybrids or The Lizard wouldn't be able to get out. As he heard the roaring and screaming and the pounding on the door, Peter picked up the recombinator and ran down the now deserted hallway and out the door, knowing that he only had an hour before the webbing dissolved and all hell broke loose.

*-----------------------------*-----------------------------*-----------------------------*

Part 13

Peter paused on a building near the ESU campus.

"Oh boy, needle in a haystack time." He said to himself.

He hadn't the faintest idea where to even begin looking for Mary Jane. He hoped that she was out in the city and not being held captive by The Lizard. He shuddered as he wondered just how far along the mutation was since he had left her. He remembered the gruesome appearance of the hybrids when they weren't using their holographic belts. He hated to even picture Mary Jane looking like them now.

"And the baby. Oh God, if those bastards caused MJ to lose our baby..."

He shook his head trying to clear the thought from his mind. He knew he couldn't think of that now. He just had to find MJ and get her restored to normal. He looked over at the scientist who was moaning softly.

"I gotta find another place for you to crash too. I can't risk you getting hurt worse than you already are."

He thought for a moment. Then he suddenly slapped himself on the head.

"Well, duh, Parker. Just call the paramedics and have them come and take him to the hospital."

He reached into his utility belt for his cell phone and cursed when he found it wasn't there.

"Note to self, Parker. Get a spare cell phone just for your utility belt." He said, sarcastically.

He looked down the street and saw a pay phone a couple of buildings over. He made sure the scientist was still secure and hoisted the recombinator back up under his arm before he fired a web strand and swung over and down to the pay phone. As he put down the recombinator against his leg and picked up the receiver. He snorted at the people driving by in their cars who were giving him shocked looks.

"Hey, Spider-Man has to reach out and touch someone every once in awhile too." He muttered as he dialed 9-1-1.

"9-1-1, what is your emergency?" the operator said.

"Um, hi. I'm Spider-Man and I have a hurt scientist. I need you to bring an ambulance over to the ESU science building and help him."

Peter figured the scientist would be safer in front of the science building than just lying out on a busy sidewalk. He had contemplated taking him back to the apartment but then he couldn't figure out a good reason for why there was a missing scientist in Peter Parker's bed.

"You're who?" the operator said in disbelief.

Peter sighed.

"Spider-Man. You know, the person who swings around New York in red and blue tights?"

"Yes, I know who Spider-Man is." The operator said in a snotty voice. "Where did you find this scientist?"

"I rescued him," Peter said.

He heard the operator snort softly and he rolled his eyes.

"Look Ma'am, I have no time to stay here and chit chat. Just get an ambulance out to the Science building and pick him up before something else happens to the guy."

"Yeah, like you." Peter heard the operator say under her voice.

Peter slammed down the receiver and shook his head.

"Just trying to help save New York and I end up talking to snotty operators who read the bugle." He muttered.

"Hey, spider freak, go to Hell!" yelled a passing motorist.

Peter sighed deeply as he picked up the recombinator.

"New York, New York, what a wonderful town..." he sang under his breath as he fired a web line up and swung away.

After fifteen minutes, Peter finally saw an ambulance and two police cars pull up to the Science building. He had been perched on the top of the building keeping an eye on the unconscious scientist who was lying in front of the door.

"About damn time." Peter grumbled as he reached into his utility belt and checked his watch. "Great, half hour left until my webbing dissolves. I'm sure that operator was busy telling everyone how evil I am and how I'm the one who hurt the scientist before she radioed the dispatch."

As the paramedics and cops ran up to the scientist, Peter stepped back slightly so they wouldn't be able to see him, but he could still watch and make sure the scientist was being cared for. As they loaded him onto the gurney, Peter heard one of the officers say to the paramedics.

"No sign of that Spider-Man anywhere. Mable was right, the little chicken shit was probably too scared to face us."

"Hmmm, let me guess...Mable is little miss snotty at the call center." Peter muttered to himself.

As they loaded the gurney into the ambulance, Peter suddenly felt like he was being watched. He turned his head and his eyes went wide as he saw a huge black mutant spider perched on the other side of the building, staring at him.

"Oh, shit! The webbing didn't hold!" Peter muttered as he prepared to fight.

But then, he paused. He suddenly realized that this spider hadn't set off his spider sense which meant he wasn't in any danger. He suddenly got a sickening feeling that he knew who the spider was. As he heard the ambulance siren start below him, he began to approach cautiously towards the spider, just in case his suspicions were wrong.

"MJ?" he said tentatively.

"Peter. It's me." Mary Jane said, in a deep voice.

Peter closed his eyes in agony and a tear fell down his face as his suspicions were confirmed.

"Peter, look what they did to me!" Mary Jane said, as she started slowly towards him.

Peter swallowed hard trying to keep his voice from cracking with emotion.

"Don't...don't worry, MJ. I have something that can help you." He said pointing to the recombinator behind him. Mary Jane stared at the recombinator and back at Peter.

"Are you sure this'll help me?" she said, softly.

"Not entirely sure, but I have the instructions Doc Connors left me and since he's missing. I'll have to use them to turn you back to normal."

"There's a huge lizard in the lab, right?"

Peter looked at her.

"Yeah, did you see him."

Mary Jane nodded.

"I was lying there in bed. I had just woken up when I heard Doc Connors scream and then this roaring. I stood up and looked out and there was this huge lizard standing there. I was so scared I just ran out of the room as fast as I could. Luckily classes were in session so no one was in the hallways at the time. But, when I got outside, that's when I realized I looked like this." She said, pointing to herself.

"Did you see Doc Connors as you ran out of the room?"

Mary Jane shook her head.

"No, only that lizard creature. Oh Peter, I hope he's alright." She said.

Peter paused for a moment and thought about what Mary Jane had just told him.

"You say you heard Doc Connors scream just before you heard the roar?" he asked.

Mary Jane nodded.

Peter thought...

"Lizard DNA" he muttered. "He used Lizard DNA to re-grow his arm and this recombinator can fuse two DNA mole...oh no! MJ, I think I know what happened to Doc Connors." Peter said, grimly.

"He's that lizard creature?" Mary Jane said.

Peter nodded.

"Yes...and...oh my God. I left him locked up with Taran and the hybrids. Come on, MJ, I need to try this recombinator on you quickly so I can get back there and help the Doc. I hope the hybrids haven't harmed him." He said.

He motioned for Mary Jane to come closer to him as he pulled the instructions back out of his utility belt along with his watch.

"Ten minutes left." He said, glancing at the watch and putting it back in the belt.

Quickly, he studied the instructions and stuffed them back in the belt. He hoisted the recombinator onto his shoulder and aimed it at Mary Jane.

"Ready?" he asked her.

Mary Jane nodded.

"Ready as I'll ever be." She said.

Peter pressed a button and the rainbow colored laser beam shot out of the recombinator and bathed Mary Jane in it's blinding light. Peter shot a glance over his shoulder hoping that no one would notice what was going on. He didn't need innocent bystanders around complicating things. He looked back as he heard Mary Jane begin to groan.

"MJ!" Peter called out, panicked

"No Peter, it's okay. It's working, I think. Keep the beam on me." Mary Jane called out.

Peter noticed that her voice was not as deep as it was and he took it as an encouraging sign. He kept the beam focused on her wondering just how long it took before she was back to normal. After a moment, Peter saw Mary Jane begin to step out of the beam and he turned off the recombinator. He stared at Mary Jane as she looked down at her naked pink body. Dropping the recombinator, Peter ran to Mary Jane and embraced her tightly, showering her face with kisses.

"Oh Peter, you and Doc Connors are the best!" Mary Jane said. She suddenly looked down at her belly. "Oh God, I hope our baby's okay." She said, touching her stomach.

Peter nodded.

"So do I, MJ. But we can't worry about it now. We have to get to Doc Connors and get everyone else restored to human form."

He grabbed Mary Jane and stared down at her.

"God, I never thought I would be so happy to see your naked pink body." He said.

With a quick kiss, he leapt off the building and he and Mary Jane hurried in the door and down the hall towards the lab.

*-----------------------------*-----------------------------*-----------------------------*

Part 14

"Oh God, Peter. I hope no one sees me like this!" Mary Jane said, as they ran down the hall.

Peter laughed.

"I don't think you have to worry about that, MJ. I think the hybrids pretty much cleared out the building when they ran through here!"

They paused outside the web covered door as Peter checked his watch.

"Only a minute or so left. I don't think we'll wait that long." Peter said.

He frowned as he heard no sounds coming from the lab.

"I hope the Doc is okay." He said.

He motioned for Mary Jane to step back. He took a deep breath and rammed his foot into the door. It snapped open with a loud bang and Peter and Mary Jane glanced inside. Everything was quiet and The Lizard and the hybrids were lying on the floor, unconscious. Peter ran to The Lizard and bent down to check him.

"I think he's okay." He said, with a sigh of relief.

He looked up at Mary Jane's naked body.

"I think we better put something on you though before everyone wakes up." He said.

He glanced around and saw a closet in the corner. He opened the door and pulled out a long lab coat.

"Here ya go, MJ. I think this'll do for now!" he said.

Mary Jane nodded her thanks as she slipped on the lab coat and buttoned it up. Peter shouldered the recombinator and motioned for Mary Jane to back up to the door. As soon as she had reached it, he backed up in front of her and aimed the recombinator at The Lizard and the hybrids.

"Ok, here goes." He said.

He flipped the switch and the laser beam flooded the room in a rainbow light. Peter held it for a few moments at one spot before shifting it to another spot, in order to ensure that everyone was reached.

"It's working, Peter." Mary Jane said.

Peter nodded in agreement as he started to see the hybrids changing from horrible spiders back into normal human beings. As the ones in front changed, Peter began to work his way towards the back. Finally, when he reached The Lizard, Peter positioned the beam directly on him.

"Hope this works for the Doc too." He said to himself.

After holding the beam on Doctor Connors for a few moments, Peter pulled it away and stared at him. Doctor Connors was lying on the floor. He had been completely transformed back to his former self. But Peter noted sadly that his right hand had also gone back to a stump.

"Aw, Doc. I wish you would have been able to keep your new hand." He said.

As Mary Jane came up beside him, he looked around at all the unconscious hybrids who were now mere men.

"Well, better get these jokers tied up and call the police. Thank God, the nightmare is over"

"Not quite Parker."

Peter and Mary Jane spun around and saw Taran emerge from behind a lab table. He glared at them hatefully.

"I believe the nightmare is far from over for you and Mary Jane."

"Give it up, Taran. You're all alone now." Peter said, gesturing to the other hybrids around him. "Let me change you back to a human now."

Taran sneered.

"Never! I'm never going to give up the power this body has given me. I'll rebuild a new army of hybrids starting with Mary Jane and your child." He jumped over the lab table. "Prepare yourself, Mary Jane. You are about to witness your husbands death."

Taran opened his mouth and bared his fangs. As Peter got into a defensive stance, Taran lept and then felt to the ground in pain. Peter stared at Mary Jane who had quickly ran past him and had delivered a kick to Taran's balls in mid-air.

"You like kicking people in the nuts, I've noticed, MJ." He said.

"Hey, it stops em, doesn't it? Besides, I gotta get some payback for what he did to me and our baby." She said.

Peter chuckled as he picked up the recombinator.

"Whatta woman!" he said as he turned on the laser.

8 months later...

"Oh Peter, she's beautiful." Mary Jane said as she held her newborn baby in her arms. "And look she has your eyes."

"And your hair." Peter said, stroking the little tuft of red hair.

"And thank God, she's okay." Mary Jane said, smiling down at the baby, who was looking up at her and Peter with a confused frown.

"Yes and now that Taran and the other hybrids are behind bars where they belong, hopefully she'll stay that way." He said. "Hmmm, what should we call her?"

Mary Jane smiled.

"I think we should call her May Reilly Parker after your aunt."

Peter grinned.

"Sounds good to me."

He bent over and kissed the top of May's head. Suddenly, he heard a thwipp sound and looked up. May was giggling as two web strands had shot from both her wrists up to the ceiling above.

"Yup, she's definitely daddy's little girl" Mary Jane said, kissing Peter
