An Immortal Tale

By Sheila Painter.

Wesa looked up from her book as the sound of a door being slammed vibrated the windows. She shifted on the couch to get a better look at the entranceway to the living room as someone stomped down the stairs. Her brow creased when Tsila appeared in the entranceway, flushed faced and tight jawed. Water ran from her wet hair onto her face only to drip, leaving discolored circles on her silk robe.

"I'm going to get that fur ball if it's the last thing I do," Tsila railed, as her eyes scanned the floor.

Wesa pursed her lips together to keep from smiling as she closed her book. "What's going on?"

Tsila began looking under the furniture, moving around the room in a Tasmanian Devil whirl. "I've had it. Yesterday while I was driving to the store PB bit me. Then this morning he jumped into the shower and took a big chunk out of my ankle." She slammed the entertainment door shut. "To top it off he's left four of his friends in my bedroom. The little devils are up there right now jumping all over the place. Aaaarrrgggh! I'm going to kill him."

Wesa shifted her position to watch as her sister lifted the edge of a chair to peer under it. "Tsila, calm down. He bites me all the time. He only wants some attention. Besides you know how fond Kanetsidohi is of PB. If you kill him she will not be happy. He's the only immortal bunny we've ever come across."

Tsila kicked the chair. "We'll just see how immortal he is when I remove his furry little head from his body." She pulled a sword from the wall display then headed toward the staircase.

Wesa stood up and blocked her path. "Don't you think that's a little dramatic. He's only a bunny."

A puff of white scurried out from under the couch and hopped across the room. Tsila's eyes narrowed as she watched the cotton tail disappear around the corner. She raised her sword and ran after him. "I'm going to get you, you fluffy demon!"

Rayen Quitral entered the living room shaking her head. "What's that all about?"

"PB," Wesa told her, chuckling.

"Oh. That explains it," she said, dropping into the well cushioned arm chair by the fireplace."

*****************

Tsila returned to the living room an hour later. Wesa's eyebrows rose as she watched her replace the sword. "Well?"

"I took care of the problem."

"Sisters," Kanetsidohi called, joining them at the couch. "Have you seen PB?"

Tsila glanced at Wesa, who looked down at her shoes before replying, "Uh... No. Not recently."

Kantesidohi clicked her tongue. "He was bugging me yesterday for attention and now that I have the time he's no where to be found."

"I'm sure he'll show up sooner or later," Tsila added walking over to the mantel and straightening a vase.

"That bunny drives me crazy." Kanetsidohi shook her head as she left.

Tsila turned to Wesa as she brushed a few white hairs from her blouse.

"You didn't."

Her sister sighed then smiled at her. "No. He started twitching that little pink nose and... well..."

"So where is he?"

Tsila checked to see if anyone was around then her voice dropped to a whisper. "I locked him and his friends in the bosses shower stall. Since she like him so much, let him bite her ankles for a while."

"Sister, you are a wicked, wicked woman." Wesa and Tsila's boisterous laughter resonated through the house.

THE END?
