Problems with Communication

By Adalisa.

Show it comes from: Independence Day (Movie)

Title: Problems with communication.

Author: Adalisa

Email: [email protected].

Feedback: I love it. It's inspiring... and let's face it, it's the only real reason to keep writing.

Distribution: My site, anyone else, just ask.

Website: http://members.tripod.com/luxshine/

Summary: David and Steven have some time to kill as they wait inside the mothership.

Rating: Nc-17

Disclaimer: All ID4 characters belong to a very rich bunch of people, also know as FOX. They get all the credit. I just get some fun by doing to them things that could not be done in the movie, even if they had the token gay character and the very funny scene in the base' lockers. Please, don't sue. I don't have anything, and given the Peso- dollar exchange, it is even less.

Content: David/Steven

Warning: This has m/m. You should know that already, since you found this.

Spoilers: For the movie, in case you haven't seen it. In fact, stop reading now, go rent it, cheer during the destruction scenes, and then come back and finish this, ok?

Notes: This is all the Sith Ladies' fault. I had the plot bunny in my mind, but had managed to ignore it successfully for two years... Until we started talking about Jeff Goldbum's incredible assets....

Problems with Communication

"Do you really think you can fly that thing?"

"You really think you can do all that bullshit that you just said?"

"Steve... Steve..." David tried to calm the army pilot as he furiously typed all the codes he could think in a fruitless effort to get the ship out of the dock. However, his voice had not the same effect as the black screen of the windows opening under some alien order.

"What the hell are you doing?" Steve yelled, annoyed. David had to stiff a laugh. It was funny to see the man who had been so cocky and sure on the way to space get so pissed off in such a short amount of time.

"Don't blame me, it's their system..." Looking up, David could see that they had very few chances. "Oh, shit..." he turned to see the dark eyes of the other man, who obviously was waiting for any instruction. " Well... Hide..."

They both jumped out of their chairs, just in time not to be seen by the alien who was apparently checking the small ship's systems from the console. Even when the virus should have destroyed all their system when it disrupted the shielding, apparently simple things like windows still worked fine.

Long seconds passed, but nothing happened. Probably the alien had decided that whatever that was wrong with the ship was caused by the weird bug on their system. So they had time to think what to do before delivering the last surprise.

Unfortunately, David knew that there were not many choices.

And probably Steve knew that as well.

David risked a glance at Steve, just to see that the pilot was watching the ring that he had exchanged with his girlfriend less than an hour ago, right before boarding in the suicidal mission.

"I'm sorry." he found himself saying. "I should have thought better and have a good escape plan."

Steve turned to see him, smiling sadly, as his brown eyes reflected some sort of regret. "Everybody has to die sooner or later... All marines know that." Then he looked to the ceiling of the ship, and his face relaxed. "At least, I got to see the stars up close." **And I wish I could say I hold no regrets** He thought, but not said out loud.

"I fixed things with my wife..." David began before realizing what he was saying.

"Why were you separated anyway? You two seemed very close at the base..."

"We... had some differences..." As he spoke, David closed his eyes, wondering why should he keep the secret, if he had only some more minutes of life. "She thought I was keeping my low profile at job because I had no aspirations. I told her that that wasn't the truth, but I couldn't tell her more... It... It was a very difficult time for me, but she decided that she couldn't wait for me to sort it out. So she left for D.C. and I stayed behind."

"What was the truth?"

Damn, thought David, the man is good. But then again, he did not had any reason not to tell. "I was seeing someone else at the time. A friend from college, that I hadn't seen in years... As I said, I was confused."

"Hum..." Steven smiled, as he leaned on the back of the chair. "So you ruined your marriage for a cute girl? That doesn't seem too confused for me."

Had the circumstances been different, David would have agreed. However, they were going to die anyway, and he wanted to leave that part of his past to rest. He had felt ashamed all his life for hiding that part of himself, so he was not going to keep it down. "He was worth it... Or so I thought then." Steven looked at him stunned to silence, so David decided to finish his story. "I choose him over my wife, and he choose another guy over me. And you know what they say about it. Once burned, twice shy."

Steven was trying to make his mouth work, so David closed his eyes, thinking about Daniel and the few months they had had together before everything was over. He hoped Daniel was still alive, even when he knew that it was almost impossible.

"You're a very brave man." Steven suddenly said, and David looked at him, puzzled. "I could never admit something like that in my life..." As the soldier seemed to loose whatever courage had led him to his confession, David put his hand on the other's shoulder. "... My best friend at the base... he died on the first attack... I... There were times I wondered what it would be, if I let myself say it out loud... But I never... I couldn't..."

"I understand."

"Do you, really?" Whatever that was going on in either man's head, they never knew. But when he saw the confused, lost look on Steven's eyes, David couldn't stop himself from leaning closer and brushing his lips with the other man's.

"I do."

The kiss was a plaintive one, a mere brush of flesh, full of warmth, understanding... and a lot of fear.

"So..." Steven still had that scared look on his face, but it was being rapidly displaced by a more primal need.

"So?" David didn't want to push. Even when Steven was a very attractive man, even when this were their last moments alive, he really didn't want the pilot to regret it afterwards.

Even when afterwards would probably be two seconds after he pushed the red button.

And Steven seemed to understand it. If there was to be a next move, it had to be him the one who made it.

In a heartbeat, the pilot made his decision, and crossed the small space between them to capture the mathematician's mouth in a shy, inexperienced but passionate kiss.

With extreme care, David let Steven take the lead, as they kissed again, leaning into each other, learning all about their taste. It was Steven the one who first open his mouth, using his tongue to trace David's lips, before gathering the courage to explore inside. It was Steven the one who eased the embrace long enough to push his hand below the black shirt that David was wearing, wanting to touch and explore the other's body.

Only then David began unbuttoning the military jacket that Steven was wearing, and sighed when their hot, sweaty bodies finally touched, almost without barriers between them. He arched his back as Steven, growing more confident as each layer of cloth was discarded, traced hungry kisses around his back, neck, sucking at one nipple while he tugged at the other, desperate.

"Are you sure... you want this?" The mathematician breathed, barely managing to control his desire.

For all answer, Steven bite his right nipple, as he leaned closer, pressing his hard erection against David's, rubbing his groin against David's body. The pilot didn't want to talk, didn't want to ruin the moment. He only wanted to live it.

David got the drift, and soon was fumbling with the fly of the other man's pants. It was true, it was their last chance, and words could only make it awkward.

The sight of Steven's naked, hard body only made his lust grow. The pilot had been working out all his life, and it showed in the defined muscles of his torso, his strong legs... and the very notorious erection that now David could see right in front of his face. With nothing more than an inquisitive glance, met by an encouraging smile, the Jewish man leaned it to take the tip of the engorged penis' head, licking it's round form as if to memorize all it's curves, nibbling the borders very softly, as his hands caressed up and down Steven's thighs and balls.

The pilot was loosing himself in pleasure, briefly wondering how this could feel better than his wildest fantasies, trying to get even closer to the other man, to mold himself against the other's skin.

Without really knowing it, he began thrusting, loosing control rapidly, supporting himself with Steven's shoulders, and the back of the seat where he had flew the ship to it's destiny.

* * *

Later, much later, both were dressed again. As mind-blowing as their mutual discovery had been, neither wanted to face the end stark naked.

With a carefree smile, Steven pulled out his cigar and lit it, handing it to David. "'Till the end?"

"Till the end." David lit his own cigar, drawing out a long smoke before coughing. "I always this would kill me."

Both men laughed, and returned to their seats almost at the same time, waving to the confused alien just before they shoot the missile they carried...

And for their surprise, the collision freed their small ship from it's confinement.

"The fat lady hasn't sing yet!" Steven yelled, as he grabbed the controls, adrenaline rushing to his arms.

"Fat lady? What fat lady? You're obsessed with the fat lady!"

* * *

They managed to get out alive.

What was even better, they managed to save the world in the process. The war had been won, and mankind was still standing. Steven and David returned to their wives and families as heroes.

But as the celebration went on, they both found themselves staring at each other, trying to read something in their eyes.

Steven was afraid David had been only using him, but wasn't going to say a word.

David was afraid Steven had decided it had been a mistake, and wasn't going to say a word.

But when Steven said that there was something that he didn't regret from the fight, David couldn't help but let hope shine on his mind.

They meet again at the shadow of the ship that had been thrown off the sky, right in front of the Area 51 base. And curiously, even when they were no longer in danger of dying on the next few minutes, they still couldn't find words.

It was not a trouble, they didn't needed them to go to a more private place.

* * *

Much, much later, in a darkened room of the abandoned base, Steven turned around to see his lover amused smile.

"What?" he asked. It was the first time he actually spoke to David when neither of them was wearing clothes.

"We really got to work on our communication" The taller man answered, kissing him before lying down to sleep.

The end.
