Benton Fraser entered the 27TH Precinct with a smile in his face. He felt incredibly happy, ever since leaving his apartment building. That was the day in which he and Ray had decided to tell everyone of his close friends the truth about their relationships.
Today, for the first time in four years, he would be able to say that Ray Vecchio was not only his best friend, but his partner for life and his lover.
However, the smile diminished a little when he began hearing the voice of his lover shouting across the room.
"I can't believe I'm hearing this?!" Ray was saying "You're my sister, for G-d's sake! You should know better than anyone that I'm telling the truth!"
"Oh, please, Ray! No matter how loud you yell, we ain't going to fall for that trick!" Francesca voice sounded incredibly calm, but even so, Fraser hurried his step, only to find her sitting in front of the double desk that Ray and Stan shared, while Ray yelled at her. Stan was watching at them go with mild interest, a discarded file on his desk. When he blond man saw him, he waved his hand to the Mountie.
"C'mon, Fraze. You are not going to believe what Ray just told us!" Stan said and Ray turned to see the Mountie too, and his exasperation turned to the warm loving smile that Benny had seen so many times since they had meet. The one that Ray had showed him after their first kiss, four years ago.
"Benny! I'm glad you're finally here! You have to tell them that it's the truth!" As he talked, Ray placed his hand over the red serge shoulder.
"What is the truth, Ray?" Fraser felt a little off place, not sure of what was going on.
"See, Ray? Fraser is not going to follow your little game. We all know that it's a lie." Francesca interjected before Ray could answer. In that moment, Huey and Dewey turned their attention to what was happening, and walked towards the desk.
"What is a lie?" Huey asked, and Francesca turned to see him, smiling.
"Vecchio here says that he and Fraze are lovers." Stan answered, with a smile. "And he wants us to believe him."
"Really?" Dewey seemed to consider it for a moment, but then he laughed "That's a good one, Ray! Can we use it in the Club when we open?"
Hearing that, Ray shoot an unbelieving stare to his coworkers, with his mouth open in a silent yell. Fraser blushed slightly, as he had been too sure that their friends must have noticed something before... After all, he and Ray hadn't been really careful...
"Ah... Actually... " He began, not very sure of what he was going to say. "It is true... Ray and I have been lovers for quite a time now."
"Four years." Ray said, as he lowered his head. However, there wasn't any sight of belief for his words.
"Suure, Vecchio... Look, Fraser, nothing against you or gay life-style, but if you two were lovers, we would have noticed." Huey pointed out, and the rest nodded. "I mean, we're detectives here."
"Not very good, obviously." Ray muttered under his breath, which caused Fraser to turn and see him. He was also not very sure of how everybody could have missed the obvious but he was willing to give them the benefit of doubt. Maybe they had been careful.
"Ray... Maybe..."
"No, no 'maybes' Benny. We have been sleeping together even since you moved to that flea-infested building... I mean, the only set of fingerprints in there were yours and mine, Remember that, Huey?" The detective turned to see his co-worker, more than angry. It was only Benny's presence what keep his temper under control.
"Probably Victoria cleaned everything else, Vecchio. That doesn't prove you and red here are fooling around."
"We go to dinner together all the time!"
"So? Louie and I did the same. We had to, with our shifts."
"We even dinner together in our free days!!" Ray let out in frustration, and then began making a list. "I ride him every day to work, and to his apartment, we share the pay-check, I walk his wolf, we spend every single minute of the day together! We even go into the closet to talk!!!"
When he finished yelling, Lt. Welsh decided to come out of his office, looking serious.
"Vecchio, Fraser... In my office, now."
With a sigh, both men obeyed.
* * *
Minutes later, they were entering their favorite private place, the closet in the Precinct aisle. Ray went in first, and with a frustrated roar, he banged his head against the wall. Fraser stopped him at the second hit, and swiftly pulled him into a passionate kiss. Very early in their relationship, he had found out that it was a very effective way to help Ray to regain some sort of control and calmness.. Even if he had never used it in public.
When they parted, Ray was looking at him with a smile, and a very sexy gleam in his eyes.
"Thanks, Benny. I needed that... " Before continuing, he hugged the Canadian tightly. "...One more person telling me that we were not lovers and.. I do not know what would I have done..."
"I think you did what you had to do in Lt. Welsh's office... He seemed... uncharacteristically obtuse. " Fraser sighed softly. He wasn't prone to judge people that harshly, but Ray's superior had been quite frustrating Especially when he had insinuated that the whole thing was just a rouse to get Francesca's out of his back... How was it that everybody had believed her when she said that they had slept together, and no one could even consider the fact that he, Benton Fraser, loved Ray Vecchio? "I never thought that people could be so... negative accepting our relationship."
"Neither did I, Benny... Maybe... if we gave them another proof?" With that, Ray pulled him into another kiss, that grew in depth and passion, until someone opened the door. Surprised, they stop the kiss, but they refused to part. This had to be enough proof to whoever was watching. Their witness happened to be Ray Kowalski, who didn't seemed shocked or surprised at seeing them entwined.
"Vecchio, Fraze..."
"You aren't going to ask for an explanation, Kowalski?" Ray shoot, smiling. There was no way that Stan didn't see the scene as a lover's embrace.
"No.. I know exactly what it is. CPR. You two exhausted the oxygen inside, and Fraser had to use that shared breath technique of his." With that, Stan closed the door again, leaving the two lovers to stare, unbelieving, to the dark.
The End.
