Mrs. Vecchio woke up startled, for some time she stood quiet, trying to hear what woke her up, but her room was silent and from the street just came up the usual sounds. Suddenly she understood what her maternal instinct was telling her. Silently she started a silent prayer, but the pain was so much stronger and she broke down in bitter sobs. Ray Vecchio never would be back, her adored son was dead.
