| Adam Copeland was sitting at the table looking at the food on his plate, he pushed it around a little before getting up and throwing it down the waste disposal, he put the plate in the sink (along with the last two weeks dishes) sighed and sat down again. Adam or Edge as he was known to wrestling fans had been this way since his long time friend, tag team partner and lover Jay otherwise known as Christian had left him to get married to a girl he'd met in England a couple of years ago, they'd become close and Jay had decided he could no longer cope with the relationship he and Adam had, he could no longer cope with having to hide his feelings from everyone, he could no longer cope with fearing for his job if Vince McMahon found out. The first Adam had known about the marriage was Jay blurting out a few garbled words about not wanting to hurt Adam but...........and then being told he would be gone that evening Adam really didn't have time to get used to the idea of Jay leaving him to marry a woman, it had suddenly hit him when the happy couple had left on honeymoon, to make matters worse he hadn't heard from Jay in the last two weeks, he guessed he was enjoying himself too much to think about his broken hearted friend and lover. As Adam was lost in thought, thinking about the happier times when he and Jay were together a car drew up outside, the driver got out and headed towards the door, at the door he paused wondering whether to knock or just walk in after all until two weeks ago this had been his home. Jason Reso took a deep breathe, pushed the door open and walked into the kitchen Adam looked up "Jay" he jumped up and rushed over to him "I've missed you, why didn't you call or send me a card?" he was about to put his arms around the smaller man when he stopped and asked "Why Jay, why didn't you tell me how you were feeling, why didn't you give me a chance to try and work something out" "I'm sorry Adam you are the last person I'd ever want to hurt but it was the only way I could do it, if I'd waited any longer I would never have been able to leave" "You didn't have to" Adam whispered "I'd have done anything, agreed to anything to stop you leaving me" "but don't you understand, we,us, being together was the problem, always sneaking around, scared in case someone realised we were together, terrified that Vince would find out and we'd lose our jobs" "Others do it" Jay walked up and down the room then turned to Adam "Adam, I know I've hurt you and I wanted to explain why, I also wanted to tell you that I made a mistake" Adam sat down "you made a mistake!" he yelled "You put me through hell and now you say it was a mistake, I can't believe it" Jay sat at the table opposite Adam "I'm sorry, I really am I don't know what to say except that I love you and I want you back" Adam laughed "what do you think I am stupid, do you think I'm going to take you back so you can do the same thing in another few months, I don't think so" he paused "and what about your new wife does she know you're here, does she know you don't want her ,that you want a man instead?" "She knows all about us I told her while we were away, I knew it wouldn't work after the first night" "Did you have sex with her?" "Yes" "Did you enjoy it, was it as good with her as it was with me?" "Yes I enjoyed it, no it wasn't as good as with you, no one would be" "So why do you want to leave her?" "When I told her about us I remembered all the great times we had together and the even greater sex we had, she asked me why I'd left you when I was so obviously still in love with you. I told her how I'd felt and she called me a fool, and told me a love like that comes once in a lifetime" What about her feelings for you" "Yeah I asked her that, she says she loves me but she wont come between two people who were made for each other, and that she'll stay married to me for now if it helps us" Adam looked at Jay "there is no us anymore, I can't do it Jay, you don't know what I've been through these last two weeks, I can't trust you anymore, I don't want to do it" Jay looked stricken "Adam you don't mean that, you can't mean that" "Why can't I, do you think you can walk in here and I'm going to take you back with open arms and everything's forgotten, the reasons you left in the first place will still be there Jay nothings changed!" Jay got up and walked to the door "I've changed Adam, I realised what I'd lost and I wouldn't do that again" Adam didn't answer just kept his gaze on the floor Jay sighed "I really am sorry Adam, I love you, please remember that" The door closed quietly behind Jay as he left,when Adam looked up tears were pouring down his cheeks "I'm sorry too, I love you Jay" he whispered. Outside Jay walked to the car resisting the temptation to run back to the house and beg Adam to take him back, he reached the car and got inside then laid his head in his arms and let the tears fall, he'd realised how much Adam meant to him and now he'd lost him. Jay straightened up and started the car he had to get away and think what to do, after driving for an hour not really knowing where he was going Jay stopped and got out his phone he dialled the number of his and Adams close friends Matt and Jeff Hardy. At the Hardy house the phone rang Jeff answered "Hello" "Hey Jeff it's me Jay" "JAY" shouted Jeff "how are you? where are you?" "Slow down Jeff, I'm in Florida, I've just been to see Adam" Jeff was silent for a while, "Jay you should have come to see me and Matt first, Adam,........well Adam's not coping so well" "Yeah I know he doesn't want anything to do with me." Jeff was quiet again, Jay heard Matt come into the room asking who was on the phone "It's Jay" Matt took the phone from Jeff "Hi Jay, Matt here how're you doing" "I need some help can I come down and see you?" "Sure, we're at home for two days come down we'll talk" "Thanks Matt I'll be there as soon as I can, See you then" Jay switched off his phone and headed to the nearest airport eager to talk to his friends. Matt put the phone down "Jay didn't sound to happy I wonder what Adam said to him" "I think he told him to take a hike" "Guess you can't blame him the way Jay left took us all by surprise, we'll have to wait and see what he wants to talk about" "For a man who's just come back off his honey moon he sure didn't seem very happy" "Mmmm" Matt looked thoughtful "maybe that was the problem" Jays plane touched down on time at the airport, he picked up a rental car and headed towards Cameron. He'd spent most of the flight thinking about Adam and all the good times they'd had together, all the laughs, the tricks they'd played on their friends and the sex, the mind blowing sex. Jay had made a vow to himself on the plane that he would do whatever he had to to get Adam back. He was hoping Matt and Jeff would understand and not hold his recent actions against him and maybe have some ideas to help him. Sometime later he pulled up outside the Hardy brothers house, the two came out to meet him, as Jay got out of the car Jeff ran over and wrapped his arms round him "It's great to see you Jay" he murmured in his ear as he squeezed the breath out of the smaller man "Yeah it's great to see you too" coughed out Jay struggling to breathe "Let him go before you suffocate him Jeff" Matt grinned at Jay "Welcome back" Jay looked slightly embarrassed "I thought you guys might be angry with me, leaving Adam like I did" "Naw" Matt replied putting his arm round Jay's shoulders "You and Adam are both our friends, we wont take sides. After all it could easily have been Jeff or I in your place" "Thanks, are you going to invite me inside or are we staying out here all night and---------I need you to help me get Adam back!" "WHAT" Matt and Jeff yelled together as they walked into the house "I want you to help me get Adam back" repeated Jay "I know I made a terrible mistake, I never realised how much I loved Adam until I left him, but now he doesn't trust me anymore he doesn't want me back" "Wow" said Jeff as Jay slumped down on the couch "I guess you can't blame Adam for feeling like that, he's hurt, betrayed by the person he loved the most" "I don't blame him, I just want him to believe me when I say that I love him and to trust in me again" Matt was looking thoughtful "What does your wife think about this?, does she know about Adam?" "Oh yes I told her as soon as I realised, it wasn't fair not to, she was great about it, in fact she's the one who told me to come back and try to make it up with Adam and see if we can work it out" "Good that's one problem solved "she sounds a nice person" "She is, what ever happens we will always be close friends" Matt sat close to Jay "I have an idea but I need to know if you mind someone else knowing about you and Adam" Jay thought for a moment "I guess not if it's going to help me get him back. who is this person, can he be trusted not to tell anyone else?" "Well for a start it's five people and oh yes they can keep their mouths shut. You see they helped Jeff and I a couple of days after you got married" he went on to tell Jay how Jeff had thought Matt might regret their relationship and leave him like Jay had done Adam. Jay hugged Jeff "Oh Jeff I'm so sorry I never realised what an effect my leaving would have on anyone else, how did you work it out?" Jeff went on to tell how Matt heard a song he thought described his feelings for Jeff and managed to get the group to come and sing the song for him "As soon as I heard the song I knew I had nothing to worry about and because Matt got them to sing it just for me made it even more special" "Yeah Jeff went out the next day and bought the album he's always playing it" "So who are these miracle workers" asked Jay "The Backstreet Boys" "A boy band!!! I didn't think you liked that sort of music, it's not exactly Pearl Jam or Marilyn Manson is it" "We like it now, I'll put it on" said Jeff heading for the stereo "Didn't they call at a Raw taping once" Jay frowned trying to remember "or was that N'Sync?" "No it was the Backstreets that's when I first met AJ and when I went to ask for their help he remembered me" "So how will they help?" "Leave that to me. You listen to the album, I'm gonna make a call" He headed for the quiet of the bedroom while appropriately the first lines of The Call sounded in the room. Matt rang the number on the card AJ had given him, after a few rings answered "Hello" "AJ?" "Who is it?" "It's Matt, Matt Hardy" "Hey Matt how are you?, How's Jeff?, Everything OK?" Matt laughed, trust AJ to never ask one question when he could ask three "I'm fine, Jeff's fine, everything's fine or at least for us it is" "Hmm sounds like someone might need the Backstreet Boys magic" "Yeah you could say that" "OK if it's not for you who is it for?" "You remember the reason Jeff got worried" You mean that wrestler friend of yours that left his boyfriend to get married?, what were their names Jay and Adam?" "That's right, to cut a long story short Jays realised he's made a mistake and wants to go back to Adam, but....." AJ interrupted him "Naturally Adam doesn't trust him not to do it again so he's a little reluctant to take him back?" "In a nutshell" "And you think we can help?" "To be honest I can't think of anything else to do and it worked for me and Jeff" "Well we'll do what we can but this seems a little more serious than your situation" "I know but we have to try something" "Hey, of course we do, the big problem is, the guys and I are on a tour with no chance of getting time off, even for a flying visit, but, if we put our heads together maybe we can come up with something" Fifteen minutes later Matt put the phone down and feeling more hopeful than he had earlier he headed back downstairs. Jeff and Jay were still listening to music when Matt entered the room, they looked up "Well, have you and AJ got a plan" "Of sorts" He looked at Jeff "get an overnight bag packed there's a package coming by special delivery, it should be here by morning, then we fly to Florida to see Adam" "Are the Backstreets coming?" "No that's part of the problem they're too busy but we'll have the next best thing and hopefully they should be doing it by now" "OK now you've lost me" Jeff held up his hands in resignation "Just wait till we get there then you'll see" Jay looked doubtful "Are you sure your plan will work?" Matt looked Jay in the eye "No I'm not but its the best AJ and I could come up with so keep your fingers crossed and pray Adam will see sense" Jay nodded "Thanks, I know I sprung this on you suddenly and I'm really grateful, I don't know what I would have done without you" he yawned "It's been a hectic few days would you mind if I went to bed,? I know it's early but I could do with the rest" "Sure" Jeff replied "you know where the guest room is we'll see you in the morning......and try not to worry" Jay picked up his bag and headed up the stairs. Matt watched him and sighed "C'mon little brother I guess we'd better have an early night too tomorrow's gonna be a big day" The brothers headed towards their room, passing the guest room they couldn't help but hear the sobs coming from behind the closed door "Should I see if he's OK" asked Jeff "No leave him be I don't think it's us he needs right now, it's Adam" "Then we'd better pray that whatever you and AJ cooked up works" "Fingers crossed, I hope the courier isn't too late the sooner we start out the better" Matt got his wish as early next morning a banging on the door woke the boys Jeff pulled on a pair of boxers and raced downstairs to collect the package. He took a padded envelope from the courier, tipped him and bounced back upstairs "Matt, Jay it's here c'mon get up, it's here" He banged on Jays door and stood back as it opened straight away, Jay stood there fully dressed Jeff looked at him in surprise "Hey that was quick" Jay gave him a small smile "I kinda had trouble sleeping I think I'm too nervous, now that's arrived" he pointed to the package "I'd like to get started as soon as possible" Jeff gave him a reassuring pat on the shoulder "I'll go get Matt up" He opened the bedroom door expecting to see his brother still in bed but it was empty and from the adjoining bathroom he heard the sounds of water running, Jeff peeled off his boxers and was about to enter the bathroom when the door opened and Matt walked out "Hey no fair you should have waited for me" "Sorry baby but we'll have plenty of time for us when we get Adam and Jay back together" Jeff nodded "Well Jay's dressed and ready to go" Matt gave his brother a kiss and slapped his bare ass "then get in there and don't be long" he watched as Jeff disappeared into the bathroom and closed the door, sighed then turned to get dressed 'yeah plenty of time for that later' he told himself 30 minutes later (a record time for Jeff to get ready) all three were ready to go, they'd decided to grab something to eat at the airport after they'd sorted out a flight. The boys jumped into Jays rental car and in what seemed like no time at all were at the airport. Their luck was holding there was a flight to Tampa in 90 minutes, Jeff and Jay went to find some food while Matt checked them in and paid for the tickets. The rest of the time dragged but eventually they boarded the plane and after an uneventful flight they touched down at their destination. As they went to pick up Jays car he handed the keys to Matt "You drive, I'm too nervous, I can't concentrate I don't want to have an accident" Jeff went pale at the thought "Yeah Matt you drive we want to get there in one piece" As they got closer to Adam and Jays house Jay sunk lower and lower in the back seat trying to make himself invisible. As Matt pulled the car up at Adam and Jay's house he could see Adam looking out of the window, when Matt and Jeff stepped out of the car he came out to meet them. "Hey guys good to see you I could do with some company I........he stopped as he recognised the car "why are you driving Jays car?" Jay got out "Because I'm here too" Adam was angry "I told you I don't want to see you, I don't want anything to do with you" he turned to Matt and Jeff "and you two, I thought you were my friends but I see you're siding with Jay, real good friends you turned out to be. you're OK everything's fine for you two you've got it easy" Matt had heard enough "Stop right there Adam, stop wallowing in your own self pity and realise you and Jay can have another chance at happiness if you try to forget what's happened and open your heart up to him again, and Jeff and I don't take sides we are friends of you both we always will be, and, as far as Jeff and I having it easy you couldn't be more wrong, think about it Adam we love each other but we can never show it not just because we may lose our jobs or be ridiculed but because we're brothers and if anyone finds out about us we'd be arrested and put in prison, probably separate ones and what do you think would happen to us in prison huh, we'd be everybody's bitches don't you think we live in fear of that happening every single day, I even have nightmares about it, so don't you dare say we have it easy." Matt stopped his tirade, his chest heaving, his breathing ragged, Jeff and Jay stood open mouthed. Throughout Matts outburst Adam had kept his eyes on the ground now he looked up. Matt, Jeff I'm sorry you're right I am being selfish, thinking about myself, look you've come a long way you'd better come in" he turned to Jay "As long as you're here with Matt and Jeff you'd better come in too. Matt gave a small sigh of relief thankful that his anger hadn't ruined everything. Once inside the four sat down and Matt handed the package to Adam he said "Adam, Jeff and I love both you and Jay and we'd like to see you back together, Jay knows what a fool he's been and how much he hurt you all he asks now is that you open that package the rest is up to you" Adam hesitated then opened up the padded envelope and took out a video he held it up "What's on here The Best of Edge and Christian or is it more a This is Your Life" "It's neither, play it and you'll see" Adam switched on the TV and put the video in the player then he sat back down to watch it. The video showed five men sat on stools, the camera focused on the one in the middle. "Hi Adam" he said "I don't know if you know us but we're the Backstreet Boys, we know you've had some heartache lately, we also know the person that caused it wants to put it right" AJ got closer to the camera "I know you're finding it hard to trust him right now but have faith in your friends they believe he's sincere, that he loves you and only you, if you'll give him another chance to prove it. Jeff had snuggled closer to Matt who had his arm around his younger brother, Adam was still looking at the blank screen as if mesmerised by it then he stood up slowly 'oh god' thought Matt to himself 'it hasn't worked he's not going to take him back' then without warning Adam flung himself on Jay crying " Oh Jay I love you so much, I've missed you, I couldn't bear it when I thought you didn't want me anymore, I love you too much not to take you back" The two sat with arms around each other kissing and crying at the same time. The Hardys crept outside grinning from ear to ear, Matt pulled out his phone and dialled AJ's number he answered straight away "Hello" "AJ it's Matt" "Did it work?" "What do you think?" "Hey the magic's still working" "Yeah I can't thank you and the others enough if there's ever anything we can do for you please let us know" AJ sounded startled "You mean you boys would sing for us?" Matt laughed "I wouldn't go that far, but anything else" "Well who knows one day I might take you up on that, It'd be nice to keep in touch" "I'll look forward to it" Matt looked round to see Jeff waving madly "Oh, Jeff sends his love" "Send mine back to him, OK it looks like I gotta go we're due on stage take care, bye" "Bye" Matt put his phone away as he and Jeff went quietly back into the house and peeped round the lounge door, Adam and Jay were both smiling, Jay looked up and saw the brothers he jumped up and rushed over to hug them both "Thank you so much I couldn't have done it without you" "....and the Backstreet Boys" added Adam "How did you manage that?" "A long story, I'll tell you later" replied Matt "I'm just glad you listened to them" "Yeah me too, thanks guys you're good friends, the best" "So can we go out and celebrate?" asked Jeff bouncing round the room The others laughed happy that all their recent troubles were over ................for now! |
