married on Malabar Farm in 1945. From Lauren Bacall's memoir: Bogie was best friends with Bromfield, and they received several boxers from him over the years. She evenmentions how sensitive Bogie's particular boxer boy (Harvey, I think was his name) was to him while he was dying, as if he understood what was happening, staying close, but not getting in the way.
He spent some time in India before retiring to "Malabar Farm" in Ohio, the name is an Indian name. His home and farm are now a state park: http://www.malabarfarm.org/

Caption for picture: ABOUT FLORENZ ZIEGFELD: Theatre manager, born in Chicago, Illinois, USA. He devised and perfected the American revue spectacle, based on the Folies Bergres, and his Follies of 1907 ran for 24 editions to 1943, making his name synonymous with extravagant theatrical production. The Follies featured a chorus line of some of America's most beautiful women, all personally chosen to glorify the American girl. He also produced a wide range of plays and other musical shows, such as Show Boat (1927) and Bitter Sweet (1929). Composers who worked with him included Irving Berlin, Gershwin, and Rogers, and the librettists Lardner and Hammerstein II.

He stopped to admire Caesar and said he (his parents) "always had Boxers". I'd say this was true as he ended up on the sidewalk rubbing Caesar's belly and "smushing" his face into Caesar's despite being all dressed up. :-) About 20 years ago there was a Boxer kennel in Minnesota called COACH'S. It was owned by the then coach of the University of Minnesota football team, Cal Stoll. Cal had several champions, but Champion Coach's Minnesota Rouser was probably best known in the midwest and was a popular stud dog. One of Cal's bitches ("the plainest Boxer I ever saw"), when mated to CH Salgray's Expresso, produced CH Budsobrav's Happy Days,CD--winner of 12 BIS in 1984-85. from Calvin Gruver co-owned with Mannie Morgado, from Flashfire Boxers' website.
