THEN HOW WERE THERE TWO SLAYERS?
In season one, episode 12 ("Prophesy Girl"), Buffy drowns after a battle with the Master, but Xander revives her with CPR. Although she is revived, Buffy was technically and physically dead (although only for a few minutes), so the next slayer was called.
HOW MANY EPISODES ARE THERE?
In the first season there were 12 episodes, with the first two being played together as the pilot/season premiere. The second through sixth seasons were all full 22 episode seasons.
WHO WAS KENDRA?
Kendra was the Slayer from Jamaica who is called after Buffy died. She appears in "What's My Line?" (parts one and two) and "Becoming", (part one), where she died, leaving an opening for yet another slayer.
WHO IS FAITH?
Faith is the Slayer from Boston who is called after Kendra's untimely demise. She first appears in "Faith, Hope & Trick", and has appeared in *almost* every episode since then. At the end of season three, Buffy and Faith had a major showdown, and was in a coma for several months before awakening. Buffy and Faith actually switched physical bodies for 2 episodes, and then in her original form Faith left Sunnydale (for good?)
HOW DID ANGEL GET HIS SOUL BACK?
Angel's soul was returned to him years ago by the Rumanian gypsy family of a girl he murdered. The idea was that with his soul he would live in grief and sorrow for all the heinous crimes he had committed as Angelus. The curse could only be lifted after he experienced a moment of pure happiness.

Buffy and Angel got together. Literally. Angel got happy.
HOW DID ANGELUS REVERT TO ANGEL?
In "Becoming (part 2)", Willow attempts Miss Calendar's restoration spell, and succeeds at the last moment, only to have Buffy send him to hell (she had no choice). Angel later returned to Sunnydale from hell, with his human soul intact.
WHO WAS MS. CALENDAR?
Jennifer (Jenny) Calendar was a computer science teacher (and techo-pagan), who first appeared in season one, episode 8 ("I, Robot--You, Jane"). Her real name was Janna ("Yanna") Kaulderosh, and she was descended of the gypsy family that restored Angel's soul. She died when Angel reverted to his Angelus personality and snapped her neck.
WHAT IS A WATCHER?
A watcher is the slayer's guide, teacher and guardian angel. He helps the slayer do her duty and achieve her goals. The watcher is knowledgable in almost all things related to the undead, demons, etc. Giles was Buffy's official watcher up to her 18th birthday, when he was fired by the watcher's council. Another Englishman, Wesley, took his place for a short time, but left after graduation, and Giles continues to be Buffy's Un-Official watcher.
WHAT'S WITH "THE ZEPPO"?
"The Zeppo" (episode 47) is a satire. This episode is to laugh at. :)
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE OTHER CHARACTERS?
Angel (David Boreanaz) and Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter) moved to the show Angel, a spin-off of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The cast members of both shows make occasional cross-overs.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is carried on the WB (WGN TV-Chicago), ASN and YTV (Canada).
