*Witez II was born at Janow Podlaski State Stud, Poland, in 1938. He died in the U.S. in June of 1964.
He was by OFIR and out of FREDERACJA. In 1939 when Witez II was just a year old, Poland was invaded once again. The Germans stormed in from the west, but the Red Army arrived first at Janow-Podlaski, driving off most of the finest stock.
Somehow on the long walk to Russia that cold winter, with stops along the way at peasant houses and country manors, Witez II escaped.
He was finally taken by the U.S. Army under General Patton in World War II, at which time (1945) he was shipped to the United States as a stallion for the Army Remount Service. This service was disbanded in 1949, and Witez II was bought by E.E. Hurlbutt,of Saugus, California.
The name *Witez means "Prince" and he was so named because of his close resemblance to his famous grandsire, KUHAILAN-HAIFA. He sired champions by the dozen and was Pacific Coast Champion Stallion at the age of 15.  He left 132 grand get.
*Wiitez II represents some of the finest bloodlines in Poland. Ofir was considered by Polish authorities to be one of the greatest living stallions (1938). Witez II was a beautiful individual and the quality and refinement of his head, neck and body leaves little room for improvement to make him the ideal classic type.
