| Frank Montgomery tells us about this intriguing ancestor: Mother: Marie Dorothea Sophie (nee Bunkenburg) Bergmann Father: Heinrich Jurgen Christoph Bergmann "Catherine Dorothea Bergmann, while living in Germany, gave birth to a son to whom was given the name Heinrich Bergmann, on March 14, 1852. The father of her first child is unknown to us. Tradition says that her parents would not allow her to marry the father of her child. Catherine became the second wife of Johann Jurgen Christoff Heers and the mother of eight children to him... Heinrich Bergmann migrated to the United States and to Chicago to work in the project of cleaning up after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871...By 1885, Johann and Catherine, the parents of the large Heers family, had emigrated from Germany to the United States...By this time, the parents were aged and lived in a rented home near their children in the Whiting, Kansas area." |
