Introduction of Phuket

Phuket is the largest island in Thailand. At 540 km sq, it's about the same size as Singapore. Just over an hour's fight from Bangkok or Singapore, and with daily connections to most major Asian airports, Phuket is ideally situated for a short break or a relaxing vacationSome 8° north of the Equator, and well below the latitudes of destructive tropical storms, Phuket's balmy tropical climate is tempered by cool northeasterly breezes from November to March, and by fresh on-shore winds in summer months.  To know more about Phuket, click here.

Travel Tips and Recommendations:

1. Snorkelling a must. Choose any day trip to any outlying island, eg, Phi-Phi Islands, Coral Islands, Similan Islands, Racha Islands, Khai Islands, Lanta Islands. Bring your own snorkeling equipment, more hassles and less hygienic to use the one provided by the trip operators.

2. Phang-Nga Bay: sightseeing or canoeing. If you like to see the caves in close details, choose canoeing trip.

3. Among Patong, Karon, Kata beaches: Choose Patong if you prefer big crowd, easy access to shops, restaurant and night entertainment outlets. Choose Kata if you prefere quiet, small but nice beach with more trees/shades. Choose Karon if you prefer bigger and longer stretch of beach, but more exposed without shades/tress. Personally, I will recommend Kata even though it is far from Patong. Kata has a small village which also have pubs, shops and great dine-in places.

4. Visit Phuket Town, Wat Chalong, Kata Viewpoint and Promthep Cape. Rang Hill Viewpoint is overrated. Go to Promthep cape to admire sunset. Go to Chalong bay to have seaford dinner.

5. Phuket Fantasea cultural show a must. Pay only 1000B which includes hotel transfer, and 1500B which includes buffet dinner. Do not pay more than this. Any extra charges are a ripped-off.

6. What we didn't try is elephant trekking. Give it a try if you have time. There are many half day and full day trips which combine 4WD, elephant trekking, jungle trekking, canoeing, and sightseeing.

7. Lobster and King Prawn, must try. Other seafood also will do.

8. Tuk Tuk Taxi is the only way to get from one beach to another. These are the people which give Phuket the bad reputation. Their charges are high. They disallow the local authority to introduce public transport from beach to beach and forbid any public transport after 6pm.

9. Phuket is an expensive place. To enjoy more luxury in terms of accommodation and food, just bring more money! Bargain hard for anything you want. Usually you can get 30% discount. Sometimes, can even go down to 50%.
