Beer something special!
Beer is so special, that it's making procedure is protected, since 1516.
On April 23,1516 Wilhelm IV., duke of Bavaria, passed a law, called "Reinheitsgebot". It meant, that beer can only be made of hops, barley and water. The only thing that was added to this law, was the permission to use yeast, because back when they passed the law, they didn't know that, and the beer got its yeast only from the air. (That's another reason, why their beer, sometimes didn't taste like they wanted it to.) While most breweries in Germany still obey this law, some other countries don't care about their beer as much. Germany is still one of very few countries, where you can't sell beer as beer, if it doesn't obey the "Reinheitsgebot". Except you label all the additional ingredients good visible on the bottle or can. Therefore, it is the country, which is known for the best beer in the world, and the "Reinheitsgebot" is the oldest still valid food law in the world.
