At 11:00 AM on sunday April 8th, the Thompson River Interior Paddle-Sports club, along with the Kamlops Canoe and Kayak Club (Sprint club from Shumway Lake) will meet at Pioneer Park for a season kickoff paddle. We plan on bringing a few extra boats and urge everyone to come out for a day of fun on the water. There is a rumour that we may even bring down the Voyageur Canoes and that the Sprint Club may haul down their big ar Canoe! Spread the word and come on out. Everybody is welcome!
Sunday and Wednesday paddles are coming up. Soon we will have regular paddles twice a week. Wednesday evening paddles will begin between 6:00 and 6:30 PM. Sunday paddle times to be announced. Locations will initially be either Pioneer Park or Macarthur Island Park. Check back on the website for further announcements or email me (Joe O'Blenis) for more information.
On New Years day, there were three of us who braved the frigid temperatures and high winds to paddle on the South Thompson River. Myself (Joe), Susan Purdy and Rena Whitehorse launched our boats at around 12:00 noon for a short but fun little paddle on the river to kick off the new year. Had to be careful to dodge the odd "Iceberg" floating down the river. Only a short section of the river was free of ice so it was a short but sweet paddle.
