        Star Trek: Legacy, for the most part, doesn't fashion a theme, 
instead we try to stick to a certain concept and a timeline. The concept 
that this MUSH is built around is one that is hinted at by it's name; 
Legacy. It seems in this day and age, that most Star Trek MUSHes offer 
some kind of twist, whether it be an apocalyptica view or otherwise. We, 
the admin of STL, are seeking to provide an environment that is true to 
Gene Roddenybury's vision. As it currently stands, the MUSH picks up after 
Season 7 TNG / Season 2 DS9.

        The purpose of this much is to provide an almost totally IC
environment with as little admin interference as possible.  In my
experience many of the situations administrators are called in to mediate
on can be worked out ICly by the players.  Because there will be no or
extremely little OOC in this mush, there will not be the excuse that
someone has taken some OOC knowledge and used it ICly.  This MUSH is about
player upliftment and empowerment.  Because we reserve the right to be
selective about who plays here there will be fewer problems. There will be
a medium available for players to express their
views/opinions/complains/suggestions/etc.

        Here at STL we will never hand out IC positions in the military 
for the three major Empires. Even the very first batch of people here have 
to go through the academy and so will every other player. If you join the 
UFP/KE/RSE, don't even bother asking admin or a player that has IC power 
to place you above the rest. The academy exists for a reason. There is 
_no_ exception to this rule.

        Registration and Character creation is disabled at the login
screen. One obtains a character by first logging on as a Guest then taking
the application console in the Welcome Room. Players will be considered
for New Character Creation/Registration who show a genuine interest in
cooperative roleplay.  Those who have been invited to play here by others
who currently play on this MUSH will be given immediate consideration. If
you were invited from another MUSH by a player who plays here be sure to
get the name of the Character here on this MUSH as you will be asked for
this information. If you have been referred to this MUSH by someone who
does not play here or happened to come across this MUSH randomly and you
understand the rules and regulations and would like to play, fill out the
application anyway and indicate so.  You will still be considered for
registration.

There is a big difference in what is OOC and what is IC. First off, the
basics. IC is used as shorthand to represent In Character, while OOC is
Out of Character. What does this mean?
        When you enter the +RP command to enter the IN CHARACTER realm of 
the game, your basically become your character in every shape and function 
in the IC world. You will react to situations how your character would and 
not how you would real life. The object of a MUSH is to be placed in 
situations in which you react differently instead of how you would react 
real life (RL). You are placed in situations in which physically you may 
never feel, this however holds through for emotional situations as well. 
When you type in the IC command, you basically morph into someone else, 
whatever you chargen your character to be. In online games, most problems a
re caused by a lack of distinction between ICness and OOCness. Often you find 
people reacting to IC situations the way they want to and not how the character 
would react to it, and this usually results in conflicts with another person. 
Knowing how to act ICly when ICly is one of the biggest keys to MUSH enjoyment 
and success.

        Players are given creative license over their descriptions,
however the following must be taken into account:
        
        1. Weapons and other coded items typically should not appear in 
one's description as in the event it is in your description and not in 
your inventory or virtual inventory other players are not bound to respect 
them.
        
        2. Keep in mind that this is a Star Trek theme and that it is the 
24th Century.  Descriptions should be reflective of the theme of the game.  
Also take into account the culture of the race/species of your character.  
Ergo, Ferengi women typically do not wear clothing.  If you are unsure 
about the culture don't be afraid to ask.  Someone knows.

Players are given creative license over their backgrounds, however the 
following must be taken into account:
 
1. All backgrounds must reflect a Star Trek theme and should not include 
any feature characters.  As we are trying to keep within the legacy of 
Gene Roddenbury therefore, the administration typically frowns upon 
illogical Vulcans and cowardly Klingons.
 
2. Your journey will begin with your traveling via shuttle to a random 
shuttle location in your empire.  Your background should discuss what has 
happened in your character's life prior to that point in time.
 
3. Your background should explain how you've come to have the skills that 
you've chosen in your chargen.  Your background should be a summarized 
explaination of your +charsheet.
 
4. We generally frown upon the killing of family in backgrounds.  As 
original as some of us may think this is, just about everyone wants to 
explain away their family in their backgrounds.  Also, if one does make 
mention of family members, like parents and siblings in their backgrounds 
they become useful TinyPlot (TP) tools for others such as administrators 
who may want to center a TP around your characters life.

- Scanning enemies empire holdings is peermitted at any given point without 
  RoE warning.
- An attacking vessel must meet crew reqquirements:
        - Small (Destroyer/Frigate/Fighter) - 1 PC
        - Medium (Fast Battleship/Heavy Cruiser/Attack Cruiser/Light 
          Cruiser) - 2 PCs
        - Large (Command Cruiser/Battleships/Heavy Battleships) - 3 PCs
 
- Manned and unmanned starbases are not  free game to be shot at. To attack 
  a Starbase, several criterias must be met:
        - Empire Head of the targetted base must first be informed of the 
          attack an hour in advanced by the attackers
        - After the EH is informed, he can then inform his Empire of the 
          incoming assault
        - From there the EH can then muster up a few people, whether it be 
          PC or NPC, to man the base
        - Once an hour has passed from the initial notification, and the 
          targetted base is manned, the attack can begin.
        - Note: If a Starbase attacks first, RoE notice is not needed. 
          Attacked vessel can return fire at will.
        
- Planetary attacks/bombardments requiree a 48 hour invasion notice.
        - Empire Heads must be notified of the attack 48 hours before hand 
        - Planetary consoles and any existing SBs/SYs overhead must be 
          fully manned
        - Notice allows for a free game sort of environment     
                - Vessels can be attacked
                - Bases can be attacked
                - Planets can be attacked
 
        - Planetary razing requires invasion notice
                - Initial attack is for weapons systems. Once attack has 
                  reduced a planet's hull to 0 it is restarted
                - After the first attack and reseting of the damage any 
                  attack is a direct assault on the people of the planet

          PCs or NPCs are requisitioned
        
- Raiding guidelines
        - Attack can't be longer than 30 minutes
        - Their can only be a maximum of 60 enemy troops on a planet at 
          any given time
        - Starbases and planetary weapons are not free game during a raid.
 
- Wholescale planetary Invasion

        - For a planet to be captured all it's key points must be captured
        - Key Points: Starports and Command Centers

        Combat is any action involving two or more people in which one
attempts, whether or not he/she succeeds or fails, to do damage to the
other.
 
In player against player battles, there are rules that each player is
expected follow:
 
        1. You can't attack an offline person, so don't claim you beat the
hell out of someone when there not online.
        2. However, in a fight, if the agressor or defender logs out
because he/she is losing, the other person/persons must wait atleast 30
minutes for that person to return. If that person doesn't return, a judge
must be called upon and he/she will handle the situation.

ENGAGEMENTS:
        One important thing to keep in mind when engaging yourself in
combat is that you face the possibility of character death, while Player
Killing (PKing) is highly discouraged and hardly done, the possibility
does occur. Also when engaging in combat keep in mind that it's likely
that your adversary might have skills much higher than yours. If this is
the case you can't simply withdraw your consent.

ROLLING:
        Combat here is very simple. The admin here decided that combat
should be kept to the minimal amount of code and mostly RP. The reason for
this is because typing out kill <person> degrades the worth of a character
and it makes for frequent PKing. The only code thats associated with
Combat here is the +roll system.
        The way this system works is that the attacking person rolls the
apropriate skill for the weapon he's attack with, ex. +roll brandishing,
and the person who is being attacked either can roll a skill to block it,
such as parry, or he can +roll agility to dodge the attack. When an attack
does connect, the amount of damage is deteremined by difference in the
return values for the roll and the players descretion. If the players
cannot agree then a Judge must be called in.

PLAYER KILLING:                         |Star Trek: Legacy  MUSH

        Player killing is usually a touchy subject on almost every MUSH. 
In some cases, a MUSH will only allow a PK once permission has been 
requisitioned from the victim as well/or a wizard. Here at STL, we're 
taking the road less travelled. Permission to kill a character is not 
needed on Star Trek Legacy, however, the kill must be judged by a foreign 
unbiased party, whether it be an Admin or a player asked to judged who has 
been agreed upon by both parties. The reason STL has taken this standpoint 
is because death is a natural part of life RL and IC.

Star Trek: Legacy  MUSH deals with harassment in all forms, strictly and
harshly.  Harassment in any form is unacceptable in this environment and is
defined in Webster's Revised in Webster's Revised Unabridged Dictionary
thus:
        
Harassment \Har"ass*ment\; n. The act of harassing, or state of being
harassed; worry; annoyance; anxiety.
        
WordNet 1.6 defines harassment thus:
        
Harassment n 1: a feeling of intense annoyance caused by being
tormented; 2. tormenting by continued persistent attacks and critism.
        
The American Heritage Dictionary explains:
        
Ha*rass v. 1. To irritate or torment persistently.  2. To wear

Synonyms: harass, harry, hound, badger, pester, plague, bait. 
These verbs are compared as they mean to trouble persistently or
incessantly. Harass and harry imply systematic persecution by besieging
with repeated annoyances, threats, demands, or misfortunes: The landlord
harassed tenants who were behind in their rent. "Of all the griefs that
harass the distress'd" (Samuel Johnson). A gang of delinquents harried the
storekeeper. Hound suggests unrelenting pursuit to gain a desired
end: Reporters hounded the celebrity for an interview. To badger is to nag
or tease persistently: The child badgered his parents to buy him a new
bicycle. To pester is to inflict a succession of petty annoyances: "How she

If you feel you are being harassed there are 3 steps to take:
        
1) Inform the individual that you are uncomfortable with their behavior and
that you view it as harassment.
2) Make a log of the incident.

of harassment.  Harassment is listed but not limited to:
        
* Repeated paging someone repeatedly once they have asked you to desist.

not desirable.
        
* Spamming others.  Spam is defined as sending text to another's screen
causing it to scroll uncontrollably.
        
* Making lewd, sexist, racist or other remarks found to be of distaste or

 smart child from the very beginning and seemed to be especially adept with her
 mind skills. She studied with a Vulcan adept to learn to gain better control

 her childhood was not unlike any normal Betazoid. Currently, she feels she has
 gone a far as she can in the civilian world and is looking to join Starfleet

 attendants ready to help those incomming and departing, while tall kiosks
 offer information about the city and Earth, as well as schedules.

 mist. The front of the Academy itself is made almost entirely of glass,
 filling the insides with light. Three banners hang above the doorway, the
 largest and center is the Academy, and two smaller to either side represent
 the UFP and Starfleet.

 there is a very strict chain of command which you will soon learn," he states,
 "in practice individual Starfleet officers are allowed a great deal of

        The first room of the academy is to put it simply, huge. Tall,
 undecorative pillars reach several stories to the curved, dome like ceiling,
 where banners of graduating classes, and flags displaying won tournaments in
 academics and athletics hang. The room is a make up of several layers and
 steps, extending up and out from the main doors, all focused around one large
 platform area, where students are gathered to stand at attention. Lining the
 walls of this semi circular room, at the very top level are doors and
 hallways, most large double sliding doors that are left open most of the day.

        The walkway between the street and the large Academy building is
 bordered with grassy gardens full of all kinds of plants, some even not native
 to Earth. Flowers, bushs, tall trees for several blocks, running along the
 front of the building. Large fountains on either side of the walkway spray
 water several yards into the air, covering the plans near by in a thin, cool
 mist. The front of the Academy itself is made almost entirely of glass,
 filling the insides with light. Three banners hang above the doorway, the
 largest and center is the Academy, and two smaller to either side represent
 the UFP and Starfleet.

 Northeast.

 Landing Pads to the North. Desks decorated with glass windows are filled with
 attendants ready to help those incomming and departing, while tall kiosks
 offer information about the city and Earth, as well as schedules.

 access panel is interupted only by doors, of which there are few in this part
 of the corridor. The two main doors in this section are the doors leading to
 Cargo bay one, and the door leading to sickbay.

        The mine proper is a labyrinth of corridors and passageways. The walls
 are oddly smooth, as if sophisticated tools were used, and every twenty meters
 or so, the walls and cieling are lined with support beams of some sort. Like
 in the hub, broken and cracked and dusty lightbulbs hang from cables from the
 roof, and more cables snake throughout the corridors. The smell of this area
 is intoxicating, even after years of unuse, the odor apparently still lingers.
 Close observation in this area would reveal this to be a silicon mine.

        The promenade is fairly large and oval shaped, various shops, booths,
 and tables are setup scattered about. You can see various rentable lots
 around, as well as some establishments that have obviously been here sinse the
 bases construction. Off to the far end of the promenade is a rather large
 establishment labeled Shitagi's Bar and Grill, with various types of patrons
 moving in and out, eating, drinking and having fun. Nearer to the turbolift is
 a Ferengi owned establishment labeled Tuteg's Pleasure Land, with all kinds of
 shadey lonely looking men and a few women doing business there. On the other
 side is a small klingon shop displaying and selling various klingon cultural
 items and hand weapons.
