This area is a beehive of activity. Construction vehicles zip around the grounds, ferrying materials and workers. Several building sites surround this circle drive, all in various stages of construction. The building to the south looks furthest along, with the building shell nearly complete. The din of the construction equipment makes conversation difficult.

Lab technicians scurry about trying to monitor the reactor and study it.
Redfeather says, "Any signs of this device utilizing an energy source particular to any individual species or government, gentlemen? Cardassian, Rihannsu, etc.?"
Tonak raises an eyebrow and circles the device

Bob, one of the lab technicians looks up and begins to answer with a piece of donut in his mouth. Some jelly drips down onto one of the papers he is reading. "MWerl.." he mumbles then chews some more and swallows, "best I see it's a beefed up ships reactor." he pauses a moment then says, "standard stuff."
Fyre(OOC) says, "ah. that wouldve been my next guess ;-)"
Tonak raises an eybrow "And how do you verify this speculation?"
Bob sucks the jelly from his finger tips causing a smacking sound.
Bob points at the machine and says, "Just look at it?" She picks up a tissue and blows his nose. "You can't tell a ships reactor when you look at it?" he asks.

Tonak resumes his scans "Does not matter how it appears sir. Its the structure the counts"

Efrosian Crisis

        Sources at Starfleet have revealed that there is presently a crisis on the planet of Efros. Apparently, a disgruntled, Dr. Pierre Von Grossman, Ph.D, of the college at Efros, reigged a reactor to induce an implosion capable of distroying the entire planet.

        Reportedly, there is a countdown timer which can be increased with the insertion of several isochips. These isochips are alleged to be dispersed throughout the United Federation of Planets. Starfleet sources have confirmed that 7 chips have been found and returned to Efros.

        Dr. Angelica Bridgeforth, Ph.D, head of the science department at the college has stated that there is currently 43 hours on the countdown clock as of the time of this report which is roughly 1400 hours, and 40 chips remaining to be located. Also, she is urging that if anyone sees Dr. Von Grossman to please return him to the college immediately as there is reason to believe that he may be able to disarm the device with out the presence of the isochips.

        Starfleet is urging all civilians who locate isochips to return them to Efros immediately or to contact a member of Starfleet. Any civilians wishing to assist Starfleet in the search for the 40 remaining isochips are urged to contact Captain (Lucia) Regalis of the United Federation of Planets Star Ship Nimitz.

Tonak looks at the woman "I am Acting Cheif Engineer on the Uss Nimitz i am looking for a bypass or a prefix code if any that we can disable the fuse and reactor"
"The reactor," she begins, "is basically a ships reactor, however the encasement has been reforced with durianium, so that antimatter can be made into matter. Normal reactors work in the reverse. The Matter is then fused into another compartment and turned into anti matter again. In this way the reactor works with out need for recharging or any other materials like dilithium."

"Normally," she says, "The resulting anti-matter is exhausted in the form of plasma from the warp condiuts. This does not produce plasma. However, if it continues to work at this rate, many ionically charged particles are produced which will essentially such the protons from everything nearby creating an implosion at a planetary scale."

Tonak raises an eyebrow "But this is has been modified to react violently when the isochips are not placed in..So logically this system is flawless but it has been flawed for desctruction....and the ionic production is what we are trying to control with the isochips..."

Redfeather looks to Dr. Bridgeforth. "I'm Lt. Commander Redfeather, representing Starfleet Intelligence, Doctor. I'll assume there's some kind of inhibitor field or other device preventing us from simply beaming the device away?"
"Each Iso-chip," she begins, "is infused with an alloy of dilitium and trilithium. These are known to have a very high proton count. This absorbs some of the electrons from the reactor and reduces the Ionic energy. The reason why we have not been able to replicate these are because we have know idea the electron count. This is something well calculated that Dr. Von Grossman only knew."
Angelica nods to Redfeather, "You assume correctly. Any attempt at tampering with the machine will trigger an increase in reaction, we call this a hyper-reactive state. It may cause it to implode immediately."
Fyre says, "I assume it wouldnt be effective enough to just put a forcefield around it?"
Tonak nods "Yet if we find something that can produce electrons such as the Plasma we vent....And if we find the right ratio...We can make a power source that can feed of one anouther....But plasma does not have a lot of electrons in it so there for it would not work"
Fyre opens a communicator.
"The problem is," she says, "This is not a normal reactor. It is not designed to vent the plasma but instead to re-use it. Any attempt at creating a vent will cause hyper-reaction."
"A forcefield would just be sucked in along with everything else in the implosion." she replies to Fyre.
Tonak says, "there for even if we insert all the Isochips we will run out at a point"
Fyre nods to the Doc's response

Redfeather sighs, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. "Doctor, do we have any idea what Dr. Von Grossman's motivations were, other than placing an entire inhabited planet in mortal jeopardy? What was his disagreement with the Federation, or whomever, that sparked this deperate act?"

Tonak continues to scan the device "I suggest looking for the Dr.'s documents for any type of simmilar research or this device.This is the next logical step
Fyre eyes over the devices some more. and mubles something. "You are an ingenious little thing for a tool of evil, arent you?"
Redfeather glances at Tonak. "Please report in, Ensign."
"I do not know what made him want to create a weapon." she says. "We were looking for a better and more efficient way to run ships. However, at some point he began to think about how destructive hyper-reaction can be. His own wife was killed in one of his experiments and he blames the school. He was asked to turn his resignation in when it was discovered that he was making a weapon." she says.
Redfeather frowns, shaking his head. "That's it? He was asked for his resignation? He wasn't arrested?"
Tonak clicks on the audiomic on his comm.

Redfeather grimaces at that news. "You realize you could well have avoided this entire scenario if you'd reported his actions to the authorities."
"There is another method." she says, "Bob discovered some of the Grossman's notes. Seems that if Grossman presses his hand on the panel and puts in a password it causes the reaction to reverse and eventually stabalizes the reactor. However..we do not have Grossman, nor do we know his password."

Redfeather looks thoughtful for a moment. "With as obsessive as he was regarding his wife before his death, I'll bet the password is some variation on his wife's name, or her personal information... birth date, favorite color, etc."

Redfeather says, "I have some security-related computer skills, yes, and access to SFI's decryption database, but I'm no expert in my own right."
Fyre says, "I am familiar with working with decrypting and cryptography. But Ill admit im far from an expert.."
"All I know is her name was Roselyn.. but the most amazing thing.. some other officer that was down here a few days ago was able to conjure her up and speak to her from beyond the grave. Freaky huh?" Angelica says.
Fyre raises and eybrow. Who was that? and can that officer 'conjure up' Grosman?
Redfeather looks at Angelica. "You're kidding? Which officer was this?"
