What the Puppeteer Doesn't Know

He pulled one string
Spring to life just as quick
Eyes wide open
Blink once and then wink

He pulled another string
Smile with cheeks blushing
Nod hello
Everyone is watching

He pulled the last string
Wave and walk with grace
Dance to the music
Greet them face to face

He closed the curtains
The show is over
One corner of the room
Sitting still and sober

He locked the door
Alone the puppet pants
Standing and jumping and shouting
Freedom, itοΏ½s what she wants

puppet

When I was young, I remembered being scared of puppets. I used to think that they come to life during the night or whenever no one is around. I guess that's where I got the idea for this poem. I'm really over being freaked out by puppets though. Interestingly, I now find them really cute and amusing.
