Our Steve - O

Look at me! Aren't I adorable??

James and I got Steve, the hamster sometime in the summer of 2002. We debated over a name, and settled on Steve, he is a curious little guy, that's for sure. Steve sleeps all day, and runs on his wheel all night long.

He likes peanuts, carrots and dried papaya. He also likes to get extra special treats like wafers, raviolis, and yogurt dips, though he only likes those on occasion. He also likes to nibble on big birdseed like rolls... honey flavor is my favorite.

I drink a lot of water. Seems like mom and dad are always having to refill my water bottle. Must be from all that exercise I get on my wheel.

I have a little igloo house, that I tend to burrow into and stuff bedding in my mouth so that I'm all tucked away in my little bedding cocoon. I sometimes end up under the ramp/hide away spot my cage has and end up pushing up my water bottle though.

I like to chew on the end of my tunnel and use it for an escape route when mom or dad are trying to clean my cage and therefore need me to be put in my ball and let loose. When I am put back in my cage after they are done cleaning it, I hold onto the ball for dear life.. never wanting to let go.

Mom and dad also got me a little cage/gate of sorts, that allows me to run around on the carpet, well not the carpet, mom and dad put down a blanket first. Then it's open range, at least until I run into the walls of the cage. I got pretty smart though, and can climb over the top of it now, when I try really hard. That seems to amaze mom and dad too, since it's a foot tall! I never seem to get anywhere though, mom and dad are always picking me up, and then I find myself back in the cage/gate again.

*** Updated ***

Sadly - Steve-O our hamster passed away early in July of 2004. He was almost 4 years old.

Another picture? Won't you just let me run, please?
