| CSKA Sofia came into existence in 1948. The first name of the team was Septemvri-CDV Sofia. Afterwards the club changed its name consecutively to CDNA Sofia, CSKA "Cherveno Zname" Sofia; CSKA "Septemvriisko Zname" Sofia; CFKA Sredets and finally during the 89/90 season the name became CSKA Sofia. The team won the championship during its first year of existence - 1948. Up to now the team has won this title 28 times during the following seasons: 1948; 1951; 1952; 1954; 1955; 1956; 1957; 1958/59; 1959/60; 1960/61; 1961/62; 1965/66; 1968/69; 1970/71; 1971/72; 1972/73; 1974/75; 1975/76; 1979/80; 1980/81; 1981/82; 1982/83; 1986/87; 1988/89; 1989/90; 1991/92 and 1996/97 In Addition, CSKA Sofia has won 18 times the Cup of Bulgaria tournament in the follwoing seasons: 1951; 1954; 1955; 1961; 1965; 1969; 1972; 1973; 1974; 1981; 1983; 1985; 1987; 1988; 1989; 1993; 1997 and 1999 CSKA became famous in Europe with its participation in the Eurpean Tournaments. The team has reached two times the semifinals of the former Champion's Cup (known as the Champions League presently) in 1966/67 and 1981/82 as well as the former Cup Winners' Cup in 1989/90.
