She exchanged glances with Anrak as she and the rest of the candidates strung themselves out around the eggs.

She watched as one of the shells shuddered like the dragon inside was butting its head against its shell, with finally gave way with a crunch and the beautiful cream dragon looked around.

Before she could make a move or anything towards them, though, her copper brother shattered his egg and went sprawling, head over tail, towards them. Ignoring the cream's narrowed eyes, the copper stood up and shook off his wings, displaying his seemingly rusted scales to everyone.

The copper impressed Anrak with a rush of words about how he had tried to get out before, but that the shell had been too soft.

The cream, eyes still narrowed and glancing furtively sideways at her copper brother, had pulled herself out of the shell and stood with her paws spread, defiantly gazing at Rissa.

I am not going to meakly submit to some stupid male dragon, I will not.

"We'll talk about that, Sierth," she promised the cream. "Come on, and we can get something to eat."

"I would like to watch the rest of the hatching," Sierth padded daintily to Rissa's side, where she walked steadily around the fur to her other side and stood confidently, eyeing the eggs. "I've heard them for some time now, but I can't talk back and there is one I want to meet."

She was caught slightly off guard, but quickly smoothed her expression and settled down to watch the rest of the hatching with Sierth.

Sierth and Rissa watched as a human and dragon bonded the next two hatchlings and then walked out.

Two eggs were left, the cream Sierth starting to prance back and forth in agitation. "Will he make it?" she asked Rissa suddenly, her voice carrying in the silent cavern.

The opal dragon Yahrkria impressed the small purple hatchling in one of the two eggs, leaving one of the candidates and one of the eggs left.

Sierth glanced back and forth from the Caerleaders to the clutch's parents, and shook her head firmly. "He says he'll be on his way in a bit. I don't understand, but then he was quiet. I dunno."  She fell silent, but then looked up at Rissa. The wolfish hunter smiled and nodded, and the little cream padded over to brush past Espyron in a gesture of support before she followed Anrak and Rissa from the cavern.

Rissa grabbed some meat and started feeding Sierth, looking up from that when Irun and Traena entered a few minutes later.

"When your dragon has eaten and you have oiled their scales, which are going to stretch and be very painful if they're not kept careful watch over, you will go to your new caerlets and sleep. Your things will be moved up in the morning, and your dragon will accompany you to the bonder dorms to do it. I expect no pranks; that can wait for a few weeks yet. Everyone, be safe. Do not go onto your ledges and do not attempt to do anything tonight but sleep."

Traena added, "I have posted your caerlet assignments outside the door. Get them and go to your room, unless you need to speak with us. We will be by in a few minutes to check on you."
