It's fitting that my only comfort as the world grows unbearably cold is insignificant to everyone else.

When we were young and overconfident, Sirius was especially so. One night he looked at the sky, suddenly whispering, "Don't forget." Then he dropped his arm around my shoulders, mischief in his eyes. "I'm watching you!"

Staring skyward from a house only he made tolerable, I smile though my heart continues to break. For though it's distant and difficult to see, Sirius remains. It's steadfast in the night above me, even more so since he is no longer here.

Always watching.
